Pawn Shop Blues with the Electric Poet Guitar

Музыка

In this video, I'm demoing the custom-built ancient olive Electric Poet Guitar. The guitar is plugged into a small Fender Champ with a reverb tank and a Tone Bender Fuzz. I'm playing a version of the Pawn Shop blues from the movie "Crossroads". The Electric Poet is a small hollow body guitar that was inspired like the Underdog model from the 50s catalog guitars. During this time, companies like Sears, Montgomery Ward, and others offered a wide range of guitars through their catalogs, often manufactured by various guitar makers under various names such as Silvertone, Kay, Supro Regal and Harmony. These guitars played a significant role in shaping the sound of popular music during that era.
One of my personal favorite guitar tones is the 50s Danelectro/Silvertone lipstick pickups (wired in -series), a tone that was used for many classic tracks such as Led-Zeppelin's Kashmir, In My Time of Dying, White Summer, as classic tracks by Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Rory Gallagher,
Stevie Ray Vaughn and many more.
The guitar's body is made from salvaged Mediterranean Cypress or Jerusalem Pine. As always, I use mostly coniferous wood, which is lightweight and has a warm and super responsive tone,'
The neck is made from Mediterranean Cypress with a wild rosewood fingerboard and a scarf joint construction for extra stability and to prevent breaking or snapping.
The guitar is actually a reemagined 50s catalog guitar model with high quality crtaftsmanship hardware pickups and of course lumber.
The pickups are my own lipsticks-hand wound and hand made with the correct size Alnico VI sand cast magnets and 42 AWG enamel-plated wire, wound directly over the magnet without a bobbin, just like the original ones.
The guitar has six distinctive tones. Three combinations of in series wiring for warmer tone and increased volume and three single coil modes for classic 50s lipstick sounds.
The book-matched tops are special exotic pieces of lumber from my collection, which include ancient Judean desert Acacia, Ancient Olive, Jerusalem pine, and salvaged Wild Rosewood.
