This technology is generating electricity from people’s footsteps. Every time people walk, PAVEGEN captures that kinetic energy and turns it into electricity and data. The more people walk, the more power it can create. The founder & CEO of PAVEGEN is Laurence Kemball-Cook.

As people step on the tiles, the generators underneath the tiles rotate, generating off-grid power via electromagnetic induction. One footstep will give you about 20 seconds of light, generating 5 watts of power.

It gives out data as well, that can be connected to your mobile devices. It's got a reward mechanism based on the number of footsteps you make, allowing you to get store discounts.

They have installed in over 36 countries, some being Hong Kong, India, Korea, Thailand, UAE, UK, Nigeria and the USA.  Pavegen has got over half a billion footsteps on their tiles so far. Their latest model produces 200 times more energy than the previous version.

For now, these installations are focused on airports, train stations, busy transport sites, sports stadia, and retail destinations. This new technology takes us one step closer to sustainable energy all around the world.

    I made a prototye for this in my senior year in college in 2019, and my professor said, "why would people ever want that?" and laughed... the crazy thing is, he owns a product making company... sadly I let him deter me from pursuing this.... A few months later, one of my classmates sent me this video... Never listen to doubters!

    What about wear and tear ? Extremely cold/hot environment ? Rainy days ? Maintenance ?

    I was thinking about this too. Cost of production and energy used, cost of energy in manufacturing repairs etc. Does it even make that energy back I wonder?

    The thing is because of the money system we are in, it will be made as trash as can be. It has to break to keep the economy going. City's would have to buy new "tiles", so the owner/company stays rich. With (daily) inspection/maintenance, so that people have jobs. Probably with inside and outside versions. Both having flaws in situations that are not common, but still can happen regularly (because dumb/crazy people destroying stuff and Nature that does whatever it wants).

    We should put this in clubs!! And around parks where people are jogging. Actually just everywhere But can't really happen now because we have a money system. And even if it would happen in this money system, it would still be the most trash version of this technology. Because it has to break to keep the economy going. It has to break so that city's need to buy new plate's etc etc. Or else the company doesn't make money, or people that could fix the broken things don't have jobs. Without money we would make things to last as long as it could. Example: (Google) Centennial light bulb. That's a light bulb from the year 1901. (Technology from 120 years ago!!) This light shines 24/7 from 1901 till this day. If we all would have these light bulbs, plus for every light 3 spare bulbs. All light bulb factory's could close for 480 years. Meaning: - Saving Energy for 480 years - 480 years no pollution of the air from Factories that aren't constantly active anymore. - No more wasting resources for 480 years - No more Destroying nature for 480 years - Actually doing something to stop Climate change for 480 years. And I'm only talking about light bulbs... But yeah with money this is a problem. Without money it's the best solution.

    The centennial lightbulb is undervolted and never switched on and off that is why it lasted so long.

    5 watts for 1 second . . . So 5 joules. 1 gram of sugar has 17 kjoules = 17,000. So it would take 3,000 foot steps to equal the amount of energy burning 1 gram of sugar. This is one of the most expensive ways to generate electricity possible.
