Pavarotti and Fiamma Izzo are a perfect couple for La Bohème... I don’t know how many times I have listened to this, I still weep at the end !

Why do I cry every time I hear/watch this, even though I’m 70 and have been familiar with every note since I was 18 and saw it in Atlanta with my beautiful grandmother?

Because it’s so profound, beautiful and full of emotion. Two unbelievable artists. And the memories and emotions of the past naturally make it even more touching. Very natural. I’m happy for you that you had such a great chance and got a wonderful memory to keep. :)

​@@refentsejoko8901 Yeah... TBH, the older I get (45 going on zero), this just hits harder. There are some things that (despite the unplumbed depths of my eunni and cynicism) still are... well... 'Sacred'. This is one.

Puccini and Pavarotti lived a life that only had a beginning.

To sing like that whilst laying down, truly amazing.

It breaks my heart to listen and watch Luciano, because I realize he's gone, but left us the legacy of his great heart and his voice... Opera is not the same without him. Ciao amore

All I can say is that Luciano Pavarotti drew me to become an opera fan and without him I don't think I would have been a season ticket holder at the NY Metropolitan and had seen and heard some of the most extraordinary vocal performances of our lifetime including his last full opera performance of his career, in Tosca on March 21 of I think 2004. The Met production of that 3rd act is one of the greatest moments I've ever witnessed.

@@terrietackett8964 So am I!! And I lived on Long Island for much of my younger yrs. I sadly only became interested in opera later in life. La Boheme is my favorite with Pav first. I enjoyed D'Amico most as Mimi w Freni a very close second.

Those couple of final MIMI’ and Puccini’s music always break my heart💔

Now I'm crying also... I have heard the opera before, but never this version with Luciano... I wish I could have heard him sing live, just once. This was so sad and so beautiful, it damn near broke my heart just listening to it... *sniffle*

Ma che brava la Fiamma!!!! Mimì ideale per timbro, voce, musicalità e presenza scenica, una vera meraviglia!

I agree! She is the perfect Mimi. Her voice of course is outstanding but there's an innocence about her that comes through as Mimi I didn't fully appreciate with other performers.

this makes me wish I could steal the DVD I found of this performance from my library. I was sobbing the first time I finished this opera. Pavarotti ripped my heart out.

There is a mistake with translation at 4:30. It's "I was helping fate" - not, "I was helped by the fate" - the point is Rodolfo was helping "the fate", the destiny... by keeping the key because he was so infatuated with her that he wanted to have more time with her.

this is a beautifull performance of Fiamma Izzo, fragility and sweetness. lovely face and way to see. I love this entire thing, can I have the entire opera? somebody help me please...

Oh my! Me thinks Pava enjoyed the kissing scene WAYYYYy toooo much!--lol I began listening to Opera because of Luciano, therefore, I am biased but I much prefer D'amico to Contrubas or Finni. Her voice seems to be much more "gentle"; therefore, not "screeching" in the high notes. She has one of those perpetual "sad" faces which stands her in good stead for the part of the "ill" Mimi. She is, in my humble opinion, a better actress.

Che bel ricordo questa Bohème! Due grandi cantanti.. Pavarotti, lo sappiamo, ma la Izzo era una scoperta. Peccato che si sia ritirata troppo presto.

Anche la Carteri si è ritirata molto presto ma vocalmente era molto superiore alla Izzo.

He also has a rather out of place and idiotic smile throughout the first section (before her cough alarms him). Luciano's acting improved through the years (he was fantastic in Pagliacci), but clearly it was far from his strength. But we can all forgive that in order to get his singular and extraordinary voice!

Well if you focus on that, yes that's not the greatest acting moment. But the ending was wonderful.

I do like jussi Bjorling and María de los Angeles Version too, but there are no performances recorded. Mistress Fiamma here is superb in the scene.

Fiamma plays Mimi better than all! Haven't seen a better version than this performance.

Una edizione veramente eccellente. La Izzo D'Amico era veramente brava, peccato per la sua breve carriera, probabilmente se avesse avuto l'accortezza della Freni nei suoi primi anni di carriera nella scelta del giusto repertorio oggi avremmo avuto ancora il piacere di poterla ascoltare, un vero peccato.

2 LATE !!!!! A bit like the CAVALRY all ways there AFTER THE FACT. Isn't it ironic ?!?!?!

I am putting up my shield as I expect to catch a lot of flack for saying this, but as wonderful as Luciano sings here, his acting is downright comical. He looks at Mimi with that silly open-mouthed grin as though she is a huge plate of hot pasta, and he hasn't eaten in weeks! I will grant him that at last, in the final moments, he truly captures Rudolfo's complete despair. My guess is that the DIrector TRIED to reign him in, but as a huge star, Pavarotti insisted on having it his way.

A quei tempi Pavarotti aveva ancora una voce meravigliosa e lo sputtanamento non era ancora arrivato. Ma la recitazione è sempre stata ridicola. Lei pare piuttosto modesta, tenendo conto che dovrebbe essere su un piano di eccellenza. E allora Scotto? Freni? Caballe (quando era giovane)?

Pavarotti and Fiamma both are superb singers. However, as actor and actress, they are quite lousy.
