Paula's Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant Review
Lets start off with whats so special about the paulas choice skin perfecting 2% Liquid Salicylic Acid exfoliant and who its best for. You see, Those who would benefit the most from it are those looking to unclog pores as well as reduce their appearance, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, brighten and even out skin tone, keeps the blackheads out, and attack those sebaceous filaments, as well as reap all the benefits of a BHA in only 8 ingredients that you can see here. The first of course being the salicylic acid. But whats so special about that. Most brands don't disclose pH levels of their BHAs, and salicylic acid works best when it is formulated at a low (acidic) pH, around 3.0 to 4.0. It has an optimal pH range of 3.2-3.8, which will increase its efficacy. Secondly, we have the green tea. Now, they added the green tea for a very purposeful reason which i think is brilliant. The green tea is in the form of camelia oleifera which will help counteract the irritation from salicylic acid especially those who are easily prone to it from bhas, it has those anti aging benefits since the antioxidants called catechins in it, help protect the skin from free radicals that cause aging, and also helps with sun spots and sun damage on the face.
Paulas Choice BHA 2
First off its super easy to open and seal, and when applying it, It feels moisturizing, and not going to lie, it feels sticky for the first 5-10 minutes after applying it but seems to sink in to a satin finish and you cant really feel it on the skin after a while, but some say they still do, which is fine. You only need a few drops of this, and the bottle design ensures you don't go overboard with it, but if its coming off too sticky, youre probably using too much.
How to use paulas choice bha
Start off with Applying it once or twice a week if its your very first time with chemical exfoliants. Then work up to every other day for about 2 weeks, pay close attention to your skin's response to it. Then work to using it once a day for another 2 weeks, now technically you can then go for twice a day, but i personally think thats too much exfoliation.
How to layer paulas choice bha
For the daytime, start with the gentlest cleanser you have, I use the cetaphil sensitive one, and then finish with SPF 30 or more. One tip that Id hope you takeaway is to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before adding your moisturizer! Moisturizer usually has a different level of pH. So for best results, make sure the Paula’s choice skin perfecting liquid exfoliant is processing first before adding anything else on top that will slow it down. And You should see improvements in about 4 weeks time as It takes at least 30 days for people to see results with this exfoliant, so don’t write this product off just yet.
Does the paulas choice bha cause purging and using paulas choice bha for acne scars
The first tip is: Make sure you dont rinse this off. Often times it may seem like a natural thing to do right after you apply something but this is meant to be left on until the next cleansing specifically so it can work. If you rinse it off, you wont see the results your after and you might cause irritation. The second tip I have is: You need sunscreen with it the paulas choice bha liquid exfoliant. If you dont use sunscreen, then you shouldnt be using this product. Any BHA or AHA exfoliant causes increased sun sensitivity, like by a lot. So if you struggle with the sun and using sunscreen, dont use it during the daytime and use it at night instead.
The third tip is: less is actually more. a little goes a long way and youll hate to wait 30 or more minutes for it to sink in if you use too much.
The fourth tip: You have to expect some irritation. Paulas choice Chemical exfoliants can be harsh and rough even if youve never reacted to them. You have to give enough time to adjust to it, and yes Over-exfoliation is a thing.

Great tips, it's funny I'm usually dry/sensitive skin type yet this product has never given my skin any irritation whatsoever, infact it really feels a bit moisturising and my skin loves it, I feel I may be using it too often though and creating an immunity to it because I feel it used to work better at first, but I still love it. Thank you.

You're absolutely right about using it less. When I first purchased this product two years ago, I used it wrong by applying it twice a day, my skin was so red and so sore, and looked... just bad.😭 I waited two months later, and gave it a benefit of doubt, then started using it once every day, I had less irritation, but still didn't like it, but it still wasn't good, so I decided to return it. I have recently purchased it again, and started using it once every other day, and then I realized it wasn't as bad as the last times I have used it in the past. My skin felt good with little irritation. However, this is a very helpful video. I'm still in the process. You have beautiful glowy skin, so whatever you're doing, keep it up! Will certainly take your advice and update, dr. Thank you. 💙💙💙🙏

I’d recommend applying once every 3-4 days first & make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin too much, since the product is quite strong. Your skin may purge & a few pimples may form but this is normal when first using. Always remember to apply sunscreen after use. After your skin gets used to the product, use every other day. Some ppl use it every day, but it’s still pretty strong for my skin so I use it every other day. Just whatever works for your skin & doesn’t make it sensitive :)

I started using this product 3 weeks ago. To be quite honest I did purge horribly around the 2 week mark just like you said. but like any good skincare, this product will first cause a purge if your pores were really congested and had traces of previous breakouts deep under the skin. Now at the 3 week mark the purge is almost cleared up and my skin is looking extremely radiant. I use it daily. I used to apply with my hands but I found that a cotton round is just able to get into the skin better if that makes sense. great video!!

I made a video on sebaceous filaments below. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXWjlpWldsjLY6w.html Products containing salicylic acid can help exfoliate the skin and reduce the appearance of sebaceous filaments. Also, you can use a Bentonite or kaolin clay mask as it can help absorb excess oil and temporarily reduce the appearance of sebaceous filaments. Use these masks once or twice a week to help.

Hello! Will the paulas choice definetly make my skin start purging? I don't need that... I just need it to smoothen my acne scars and even my skintone and such. I don't have acne anymore so it would be bad if it came back. I applied it for the first time right now. let me know please.

I was using this product for years and I stopped for the last two or so and was using Perricone, but then I came back to it and the bottle isn't white anymore, it's this gray shade and when I shook it up and put on my face, it burned like fire and smelled like pure VINEGAR....did they change the formulation of this??? I have very strong skin, it's never been sensitive and a I could actually put pure vinegar on my face with no problem, expecting the burn, but this doesn't seem like the same product anymore... it used to be a little bit oily and smooth going on and now it's just dry like vinegar and it smells like it, so I'm wondering if the formulation was completely changed? Anyone? Edited to say this wasn't purchased directly from Paula's Choice and I came to find out it was filled with something different so it was counterfeit I purchase this again in the great bottle from Paula's and it's fantastic!

Hi thank you for your helpful video. I have oily skin and large pores. I occasionally get a pimple but no siggnificant acne concern. Ive always washed, moisterized, and suncreened but decided to get into treatments a month ago. I use cerave gel to foam BID, paulas pore reducing toner BID, spf 50 hawaiin tropic suncreen lotion AM, lubriderm lotion PM. Every other day i use cerave retinoid and paulas exfoliant (i used to these on the same day but now use one or the other every day). Well, 4 weeks in my skin looks loke ive just gone theough puberty. Is this just the purge? I have noticed smaller-looking pores along my nose but my cheek area looks the same if not worse... advice appreciated!

  • @jdubs604

It’s actually ok to rinse it off after a few minutes. Your skin will have already absorbed the SA, the rest is just the residue from the other ingredients. The SA would’ve been absorbed or evaporated in minutes or even less. Same with other actives like Retinol. Once it’s dry, you can wash your face if you don’t like the stickiness. I’m a board certified dermatologist. Trust me!

Hi! Thank yoi for the video. How do I use this product in my routine? Should I use it after clean my face and before my vitamin c serum ? Thanks

  • @ArsalanAspires

    @ArsalanAspires

    6 ай бұрын

Thanks for your question! Yes, it should be used after cleansing. Secondly, there is a few ways you can then incorporate your vitamin c serum with it. The first way in my opinion, is applying the product then giving gap of 30 minutes, then applying your vitamin c serum. Any time you use skincare products with a pH gap greater than or equal to roughly 1.0 to 2.0, you can choose this approach. The second way is to minimize the risk of inflammation, by applying at different times of day. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and protects against free radicals, so you can use it in the morning to protect you against most free radicals during the course of the day, and then the BHA exfoliant at night, after cleansing. I hope this helps!
