Paul Warne's Championship DILEMMA!

Спорт

Paul Warne has managed Rotherham United in the Championship on a few occasions in the past but he ahs been unable to find any success in his attempts to keep them in the division. I look back through his transfers and managerial record of his time in the Championship to see if he has what it takes.
This time round he is at Derby County, where expectation is always high and the budget will reflect that. Tasked with the job of stabling the club in the Championship after promotion from sky bet league 1. Can Paul Warne rebuild this Derby County side at Pride Park Stadium over the summer in an attempt to keep them safe from a relegation battle in 2024/25?

I have every expectation that Warne and his team will steer Derby to a mid-table finish or possibly better. I know it was very early in the season, but the fact Rotherham were fifth in the Championship when he left suggests that he can succeed in that division. And he and his team showed a good deal of tactical astuteness in some matches last season. I was impressed. Anyway, you simply can't compare Rotherham with Derby. He will be in a position to attract much, much better players. Moreover, I believe this Derby team to be better than the one that was relegated, but would have been mid-table had the 21 points not been deducted. In short, I am quite hopeful. I wasn't particularly hopeful before 23/24, but Warne words quickly.

I have the same expectations looking ahead to next season too. I think we have to be careful on judging that tiny sample size when they were fifth before warne came here. For example Burton we’re 7th and like 5 points ahead of us one stage this season they ended up just staying up. Sometimes it’s too early to take proper acknowledgement of where they are. They did very well last season at times with their tactical awareness and making changes but I also think at times they waited to long to make the changes. Consorting Derby and Rotherham is difficult yes, two completely different size clubs with completely differing budgets. I’m not sure I completely agree on last seasons team being better then the one that went down but it does have elements where it’s stronger. The key part for me is seeing the retained list, knowing who’s staying and going to then assess what we need.

I think this is the toughest the championship has been. There probably won’t be one small team in it. We need to strengthen a lot - defence is good but there is no cover, obviously we need to sign a new midfield, and I have no idea where we will find a championship quality striker. I’ll be happy to survive relegation next season.

I think everyone’s hope for next season is survival, we’ve already been linked with a range of high quality players. I’ve got some videos coming out in the coming days about those links and the likelihood of those deals coming through.

Id take a mid table finish next season, personally think we need to strengthen in midfield and striker, Id say our defence is pretty good for the champ

For me anywhere 21st and above I’d be happy. Survival is key to the rebuild. If we keep the likes of Sibley, Thompson and maybe Collo or Gayle then we have a good base to build on and add strength in depth.

I might be overly hopeful or just delirious but I'm expecting at least a play off place next season #COYR

Me personally I’d be happy with a stable mid table finish. If you haven’t already make sure you subscribe and we can enjoy the rollercoaster of Derby together! My expectations may change depending on our signings though. Going to be very interesting to see how Paul warne develops his own style and this squad of players at his disposal.

Presently all the squad are in Las Vegas, a reward from player bonuses for getting promoted. I think all the 1st team are going so don't expect any movement on retained lists until end of next week at the very earliest.

Yeah I heard about that after watching the EFL podcast with James Collins. I hope they have a great time, they deserve it after such a great season. Probably be Thursday Friday before we hear anything I imagine.

Brown and Gayle sounds a good pairing up top … would need another winger . Wouldn’t keep Colins , wash would be back up . Would have to add probably one more experienced striker… As for the midfield… major work needed Adam’s is the kind of player you would build your side around , number one target in my book . Then would need another defensive midfielder as back up and two ball playing midfielders too . If Cashin was to go I’d assume it would be for millions the money could be helpful to build a squad . But if he stays then we’ve got a top class player for another season . Two left wingbacks needed and another centre half or two if cash goes . As for who goes … Tommo , Smith , Fozz and Vickers should go … keep sibs as a versatile back up squad player … Elders could be sold hopefully.

Definitely agree that major work is need but I can’t see Cashin going in any capacity unless someone bids upwards of 10-15 million. Vickers, elder is contracted so they won’t be going either. Tommo and sibs most likely stay too.

Team management need to get out and see who is available but now derby are in the championship it might be more appealing for players to come here now

From what I’m aware they have been drawing up targets for the last few months. Fairly sure Warne said he was having recruitment meetings this week too. They’ll know who they want

I wouldn’t want him as first choice but definitely around the squad, his experience will be very valuable and he is still capable. I doubt we let him go though, he has a year left on his deal and I can’t see anyone offering a fee for a 32/33 year old defender.

Personally, I think that he's found his level, he'll get skinned every week in the championship, turn him & he's done. Great, when it's in front of him, his heading is his strongest point, an absolute beast clearing headers & set pieces, not enough to justify his inclusion. Sorry, Sonny.
