Calling the album Graceland was a stroke of genius. Pilgrimage, coming together: that's what the album stands for. It's not about Elvis. It's about love through art. Simon cried at Elvis' grave. Because he got it. I did the same when I visited Graceland. I was inconsolable.

Best ever interview was on "60 minutes". He was asked if there was anything he was sad about. He said "Yes, my Father has never said he was proud of me". They asked him if he actually asked his Father if he proud. He. of course, said no. Paul Simon is a great artist but also a great guy.

I got exposed to Paul Simon just two weeks ago when Spotify recommended me “I know What I Know” and when i heard the women chant at the chorus, as an African i had extreme chills run down my spine and i had to know more about this man, and apparently my mum loved him so much because his music was considered as Oldies music, and it made up most of her youth, she recommended more for me and i have never seen anything more beautiful, i love this music and i love this man too ❤

I bought this album in December 1988 as a birthday gift to my roommate in dental school and when I listened to it I was absolutely bowled over. I just couldn't get the tunes out of my head. I went and bought one for myself the next day. After all these years I still play this album in my car - now in a CD - atleast once every day. The music arrangement is unlike any I have heard. My daughters love this album. His Rhythm of the Saints is a favourite too. Srikanth,

One of the best albums produced in my lifetime, every song tells a story. The fusion of pop and African styles is Eons beyond what Malcolm Mclaren and Neil Diamond did in this vein in years prior to Graceland. The sound quality achieved is remarkable for the era. Paul Simon is one of my very favourite artists. This is a good little look at the making of Graceland.

Simon did it by going there and getting those musicians to play on the record and collaborated with them. Its the real deal, just sliced up and arranged into what we know as Graceland.

This was a great album, very unique, very different. Paul knew what sound he wanted to achieve and he just went for it! He looked like he was having so much fun, too! I think part of the reason why he's so open minded is because he's travelled, he's seen other places and other cultures

I am glad this album is being remastered. The old question of if you could only keep 25 albums and the rest had to go which ones would you keep. Graceland is one of the keepers. I remember the first time I heard some of the tracks and was instantly mesmerized and still am after 25 years. Hopefully a new audience will be able to appreciate this masterpiece as well as the ones who criticized Paul of breaking UN sanctions against South Africa and exploiting African musicians and their music.

0:24 That's so strange to me that Ezra Koenig said that quote because that's exactly how I first heard Graceland, in 1985, when I was exactly 5 turning 6 traveling across the country in an old Volvo with my family. It changed every musical notion in my young mind. How many people could that possibly apply to?

One of the great master piece albums. And a great consolation to the broken hearted. I have always thought that Paul Simon was also referencing Robert Johnson, and not just lyrically, but in the sentiment (in some of the songs) of the album itself.

Worked on one of his documentaries of how the songs with came about... his on and off friendship with childhood friend Art Garfunkel. And how the South African band had to wade through the constraints of apartheid to record their songs. It's a documentary that deserves a Netflix Special cos it's an emotional roller-coaster type of documentary and tells you how great humans can be when we show a little love!

0:24 It's funny that Ezra Koenig says this, because I rediscovered this album a few months ago when my brother mentioned that it was one of his favorites by Paul Simon. Apparently we had both heard it a long time ago on a road trip with our grandparents. I don't remember that road trip, but I can feel its effect on rehearing to the album for me, and I can also see its effect in my musical tastes today. It's funny how moments like that, music listened to once on a road trip long ago, can be so pivotal. It's amazing that, when you're a kid, you understand things so simply - I just enjoyed it without understanding why further than "it's fun". When you grow up (and especially for me now that I've grown to be a musician myself), you start to be able to quantify what it is about music that you enjoy so much. For me, it's been Paul Simon's style mixed with the African style, but especially the lyrics. That's why my favorite track from the album is Graceland. He takes the African inspiration and merges it with his style, he takes his signature, sort-of-odd lyrics (the girl who calls herself the human trampoline, etc), but then he also takes something deep and meaningful to him (his splitting up with Carrie Fisher; "losing love is like a window in your heart - Everybody sees you're blown apart - Everybody sees the wind blow") and transforms this already amazing idea into full blown art. It's so beautiful to rediscover something as amazing and inspiring as this album, but then it's also interesting to hear that many of us were apparently exposed to it in the same way, as kids on a road trip.
