What about Yvonne’s partnership with Julian Dalrymple Sykes played by Ben Aris. I liked both partnerships. The one she had with Barry was funny because he wasn’t afraid to insult her and she regularly had a back and forth with Barry, reminding him about his upbringing. He in turn reminded her about her absconding with Julian and someone else. They both had acid tongues 😂 Julian on the other hand was always being suggestive and he was mad about Yvonne. Quite a randy devil Julian was. She just didn’t like the mud and smells of the pig farm he owned.

Great stuff, never seen this before, loved the show, still watch it today, but he's clearly miming, not sure if he actually sang this, if he did he must have had studio help as his voice isn't great, but fantastic character in the show, this is based on his appearance on pebble mill at one where he "sang" you've lost that loving feeling, it was excruciating, but great comic actor, and rip.

Paul Shane was actually a very good and versatile club singer, as can be evidenced from the numerous times he sings as Ted in the show, though here he is miming to his own record (which was not the version used on the show), as was common practice in BBC studio shows such as Top of the Pops and this at the time...He actually started off as a singer on the Northern club circuit before he got into comedy and acting, but, sadly, as far as I know, he never recorded an album...The infamous Pebble Mill at One appearance is awful, but it's meant to be awful and is usually taken out of context...He was promoting a show he was doing at the time in which he parodied a bad club singer, but most clips of this appearance fail to show the accompanying interview where he explained this...

Listening to Paul Shane singing this, it is very easy to think he sang the show version as well - sounds very similar to Ken Barrie's version.

@@molineuxphil indeed it is very similar to Ken Barrie’s version. But i think it mostly starts to sound more like Ken’s version after the instrumental part where he’s dancing with Ruth Madoc. Then it really was difficult to tell on the old LP records.

Fun song, I like how they appeared as their characters rather than themselves. Not as good as You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling though lol 😝 Hi de hi was ace, got the dvds. ‘50s style songs were popular around that time, with Making Your Mind Up and Do The Hucklebuck in the charts. Keith looks like Bobby from Bucks Fizz in his green jumper, Sally James had one on Tiswas too.

Ken Barrie sang the vocals on the TV show opening titles, and that recording was used throughout all series of Hi de Hi. In later series (1981 onwards) the closing credits used this version with Paul Shane’s vocal, but the opening titles retained Ken Barrie’s version.
