Paul's Rants - 'It's going for scrap!' Yes, of course it is ...

I can't help being a little cynical about this kind of thing!

All these 'Barn finds' get me. Must be billions of undiscovered barns out there.

Hi Paul, this video reminds me of a guy from Norwich in the late 70s early 80s who had a whole load of British bike part’s but way to expensive for anyone at that time. We were all looking for part’s but couldn’t pay his prices. So what he done was dug a hole in his yard, smashed all engine cases & aluminum parts with a big hammer & buried them. He said if no one pays his prices then no one will ever get his parts 😢What a W….r & in those days everyone was riding British bikes 🏍️ & looking for parts.

When I picked up the ‘66 Honda S90 I’m restoring a friend asked what I was going to do with a rusted basket case such as that…I said restore it…he said “I guess anything can be restored with enough money”…I said “it’s not money…it’s love and keeping alive a little bit of history in my world…”

Yup, no one ever expects to get back what they put in to ANY restoration or customizing. It's not about making money, it's about the personal panacea of satisfaction, "love", and respect of artistic engineering. kzread.info/dash/bejne/npqC07Nmfsu_p9I.html

I remember going to local scrap yard and seeing 5-6 BSA A65 bottom end cases sold for weight. Most chipped up but the occasional good set for 45cdn way more than scrap.

If they were really going to scrap the vehicle, they'd have done it already without advertising the fact on facebook

threatening to scrap a vehicle in an ad unless someone buys it is emotional blackmail.. they know they can trigger your sympathies for nostalgic things.. back in the 70s there was a used car salesman somewhere in western United States problem the California, the Johnny Carson was reading the ad on his night time show because they were so funny.. he would put an ad in the paper, saying, bring your leash and flea collar, and come and get this dog, referring to a car.. I myself wanted to sell my sons 10 year old Ford ranger pick up truck for him. I advertised it in the local sites by telling the truth. At the time my son was working construction, and the construction sites in the late winter early spring are always muddy… so rather than just point out the nice things about it like it I did have a brand, new clutch and master cylinder and slave cylinder, which I did mention. But I advertised it as looking like a pig lived in it… I had three people that wanted it right now, and the first one showed up within two hours of the ad coming out and he bought it. He was a farmer, he said it won’t even leave the farm very many times. He just needs it for chores and he didn’t care about the mud. I myself drove from Pittsburgh, PA USA to very near Niagara Falls New York to look at a trials bike that the guy said was ready to go. I drove in my non-air-conditioned Ford van with my two young son is with me on a 90° day. When I got there, the rear wheel, not only had spokes missing, I could pull the chain practically off of the sprocket., The fork seals were blown, the wheel bearings in the rear wheel allow the wheel to shift side to side about 20 mm.. if I did not have my two young sons with me, I wanted to punch the guy after that 250 mile drive in that heat

I've got a new property that I'm repairing just now. It has a huge overgrown garden with outbuildings that I can't even get into. I'm hoping there is some little gem hiding in there which needs some love and repair.

Now that you mention it, I've seen a few of those and at least one has been called out as fake. Since I'm not interested in buying another bike, I took little notice but you're right, it is very near to a scam and certainly not honest.
