Many fond memories about Pee Wee, so I wanted to chime in. As a middle-schooler I'd seen his cable special, and one night hanging out with some friends I saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure being announced on an MTV special. My grandmother took a neighborhood girl, her younger cousin, and me to see it. For some reason around that time I created a Pee Wee facemask from a church fan (?). The movie did not disappoint. We were sitting in the front row during Large Marge and we screamed. Such a great memory, and I'll always be grateful to Paul for adding such fun to my childhood. I believe that that was the main point of Pee Wee Herman, to spread joy through humor and a portrayal of innocence which we can tap into long after childhood.

I never gave Pee Wee a chance in the 80's, but I watched it recently with my kids and I giggled through the entire flick. It's so charming and tongue and cheek. Simply brilliant. I'm looking forward to his next movie. It's long overdue.

+Kalle Nordvall, yet you can't even spell simple words like "compare". Please come up with a kids show character AND make it famous, then talk shit all you want. Something tells me you would not make it past your front door. No, I won't take your word for it. Also, the show reminds me more of being high on LSD than on Pot, FWIW.

***** CapitalJ2 It's been widely known that men masturbate discreetly in their seats in adult theatres, especially if a gay porn film is shown (but even when straight films are shown). What is the point for a man going to see a porn film? Today these cinemas are disappearing because we have internet, but those were the days. Also, he was discharged from possessing pedophilia material. It was not the focus of his collection, which was vintage gay porn, and apparently some magazine had disputable images, but it was proven that he had bought those in bulk as "gay erotica", unaware of the content. Ok, so maybe he has a strong libido, but that's not a crime.

+Eric shumway I agree, I still don't understand as a very wealthy person would dare to go in an XXX movie house to jerk off. He could have done it in the privacy of his own house, I know it' s compicated... He was caught somewhere in Florida when he went to visit his mom. the Mom as many retired jews - but also Italians from NY, Chicago end what ever where the winter is a bitch- reside in Florida - like the fictional parents of Jerry Seinfield. Cheap asshole, with his money I would have hired body guards - maybe cops, and nothing would have surfaced. Pee Wee big adventure - still is one of the greatest films of the last century.

+lorenzo magazzeni As I recall, he broke a law, but it was kind of a stupid law. Most sexually functional men would have done the same thing in a XXX theater. Reubens shouldn't have "come" there (as you pointed out), but it's amazing to me how he was vilified for doing something completely normal from a biological standpoint. This society is a repressive society. Not gonna go into my life story, but America's Puritanism has completely fucked with my mind by insisting that fucking is a "bad" thing.

Pee Wee's Playhouse was cool I used to watch it with my dad on Saturday mornings as a little kid. He also enjoyed it. There were a few jokes here and there that were meant more for adults but would fly over kids heads. And Phil Hartman was great too. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is simply a terrific, one of a kind film. So imaginative and funny. There aren't many movies rated PG that are hilarious for adults and kids alike. I still quote the movie and say lines to my friends as an adult. Tim Burton's direction was great and the music by Danny Elfman is legendary and and totally enhanced the movie. RIP Paul Reubens thanks for all the memories.

All I have to say is... I grew up watching his show on Saturday mornings and I liked it. I missed his Pee Wee movies when they first came out but I saw them later on when it was released on HBO. My parents were not the type of people who went out to watch movies. My grandpa would not let me watch these types of movies, he was super religious. I on the other am not religious and I am very open to everything. I find what Paul did, is funny when I heard about it. My opinion about it : It was funny to hear about it but he did not hurt anyone and meh so what.. I have been waiting years to see more Pee Wee movies. I'm happy to hear that he is working on another one.

+Marc L. his neck has lots of access skin, so when he was filming pee wee recently, pictures surfaced where he had pulled his neck skin back with tape. here, he probably just didn't want the neck skin to be exposed...i think that's why he wore the turtleneck.

I would *love* to see Pee-Wee-Herman make another movie. That said, despite all the vindictive assholes who felt the need to bring up issues of Paul's past, it's interesting how many of these saints have *themselves* been in jail for similar, if not THE SAME things - or WORSE. Besides, just who has lived a perfect life? The man made a mistake. Let it go, people. Besides, Pee-Wee's making his movie whether you want him to or not so if you don't like it DON'T GO SEE IT. I did find it interesting that despite all the perfect people of the world's attempts to keep him down Paul has thrived anyway :)

This movie is actually incredible. I WAY underestimated it. The music is amazing... The writing is amazing... the acting is amazing... the directorship is amazing. You get to see a whole new depth to his character. You REALLY feel for him in so many ways and the gay under-current is incredibly clever.
