It's actually Denny on bass for this track. Paul on piano. Paul also plays the harmonium that begins the track. Tony Clark was the recording engineer on this one. He was the engineer on the "Wild Life" LP. I like this version and the live one. They're different - but both sound good in their own way.

love the harmonium. I believe the Beatles were using that a bunch on rubber soul. I would imagine its the same one

I actually agree with you that the live version is my favourite version, but I think that’s because it was near the end of the set and Paul was just letting it all rip with the vocals. Things still my favourite track on the album, though 👍🏻 We shouldn’t underestimate Denny’s piano playing on this, too. Probably his best of his Wings career. That spacey art piece was clearly inspired by the Hard Day’s Night album cover 😉

I still think WINGS OVER AMERICA is the best of the WINGS albums. Not that the others aren’t great also, you just can’t beat that live sound.

This is one of those songs that would've been really cool to hear Paul do with current touring band. Especially with Abe's drumming. It bet it would be electric!

Antoine - being a drummer, you should listen to this version. Would love to hear your thoughts on the differences between the version with Joe English and this Bonzo version.

dang man! The drums sound so good. kind of a tame version ironically though except for Bonzo

Holy Moly! I had never heard this before now. It makes sense that Paul would call on Bonham for that famous “gallop” he does so well. Maybe I’m just too attached to the original, but I think Joe wins, clearly Paul agreed. Actually has me thinking - for as much credit we give Bonham for that Zeppelin swing, it was the three of them who created that deep groove. Just as this grouping of players is iconic in its own right. P.S. I am a huge Bonzo fan (what drummer “of a certain age” isn’t?) he’s in my holy trinity of Ringo, Charlie, Bonzo. Classic Rock AND Roll drumming. All white guys, all British, dang!

@@compoundstudio Bonham also played on So Glad to See You Here and Rockestra, along with Kenny Jones, I think. If he hadn't died in 1980, who knows? Maybe they'd have formed a group called the Winged Zeppelin.😀

I heard the Wings Over America before I heard the Speed of Sound version, so I also prefer the Wings Over America version. This is definitely arena rock and I think Paul meant it to be played live. I do appreciate the differences on the Speed of Sound version, both are great!

I enjoy hearing the two of you react to this album. Unlike you, I don't enjoy how Paul, Denny, and Linda's voices blend. Still, this is a great track.
