Paul recently called it "my worst song". I don't know why. The lyrics are a philosopical experience that make us reflect on the finitude of the human existence and the social gaps produced by capitalism.

I think Jimmy was far superior than Henry in Live Performance. I think in Studio Recording Paul did all the lead guitars and in live performance his Lead guitarist will replicate what they did in studio. Jimmy did it more decently.

I love the rawness of this lineup. IMO they had the potential to be the best version but broke up before they had time to prove themselves on record with the exceptions of My Love & Live and Let Die. The 75-76 lineup was obviously more polished but I prefer Henry’s solo on My Love. It has a bit of a jazz feel to it. I also prefer Paul’s solo on Maybe I’m Amazed than any of the later versions.

In my opinion, Paul coasted along musically after the break up. You just knew John was the word man and Paul did melodies, although John could do both melody and lyrics, his songs with Paul’s melodic contributions were the best. Paul is a working class Liverpudlian who had to keep going, even though some songs were drivel.

Clearly you don't have kids. The key to understanding McCartney in this period is that he's an active dad and this was a song he wrote with and for his kids, and he was trying to appeal to all ages.

Embarrassingly bad song, typical Paul being lazy and stoned. His vocals are amazing though! Wild Life is a good album that is just the worst song on it, a throwaway. I just love "Dear Friend", makes my heart melt every time, especially knowing the song was about him and John, the two favorite musicians I have in the world.
