I've seen him many times, as far as I'm concerned he can just stand there in silence if he wants and I'd go home happy. We will never see the likes of his kind again, a magical time for me growing up in this era. His Glastonbury performance was second to none. No autotune and no feedback ear piece. xxx

I am just so glad he's still ALIVE and TOURING!! I will be seeing him for the first time in one week, and I feel like it'll be a dream come true. Do I care that his voice might sound different and not be the best it's ever been? NOT AT ALL. I am happy he's still going and giving ME the chance to see him in person. That's all I care about. So much LOVE to Sir Paul McCartney.

Ok let's do the math. In this video montage, his voice showed almost no change until 2014. So that's 38 years from 1976 folks! He was already 34 years old in 1976 and 72 years old in 2014. So his voice stayed remarkably strong for a long long time! Especially when you remember he's been singing non-stop since his teens. All of the concerts and recordings with The Beatles, Wings, and his solo recordings and concerts with his current band! It's a crazy amount of singing! That's not even to mention rehearsals, and special guest appearances with other artists. Oh, and probably hundreds and hundreds of interviews. It all adds up. So now he's 80 years old all of a sudden and it seems like the time just flew by! We should all enjoy him for who he is, the gift of his music he has given us, and the fact that he's still out there doing 2-1/2 to 3 hour concerts, and killing it! It will be a sad day when we can't see him sing and play anymore. 😔❤️

I was at both shows (Wrigley and Tinley Park, both 1st night) and the change in his voice was substantial. He pretty much sounded like Beatles/Wings Paul in 2011 and raspy old Paul in 2017. I'd pay to watch Paul even if his voice was a barely audible whisper, but its sad to hear his voice degrade to this level. The 2022 shows sound AWFUL. I'm Danish, and pro English. But the 2018 on-wards should never have happened. I realize that it is up to Paul to do whatever he pleases. And I also think I understand that he feeds off the communication with the audience (who wouldn't). An interesting compilation. Thank you. A few points. 1. PM started his career long before foldback was widely used. This in itself leads to straining and the risk of vocal damage. 2. To do this fairly you’d need to generalise a suite of gigs from each of the chosen years: everyone catches cold, suffers fatigue, doesn’t feel like it-ie has off days. 3. PM, perhaps surprisingly, hasn’t adjusted the keys of his songs. Robert Plant, for example, has developed a new style of singing to suit his voice and consequently sounds great. 4. Many of the songs in his live shows are high intensity vocally. Any changes in his voice are likely to be foregrounded by this. 5. PM is a great musician: it’s that, probably before his standing as a singer, that makes people want to see him. Much like Dylan, in that respect. But thank you for providing a very interesting starting point for discussion. Oh and a final point (6): it’s important on each occasion to consider where exactly in the relevant set the song was placed. Hitting high notes when nicely warmed up but before any vocal strain has occurred is entirely different from hitting them when either not warmed up or else tired.

Vocal technique is not something that most rockers really pay attention to. He was blessed with remarkable natural technique. I could hear him using an operatic protected voice in the Get Back movie outtakes of him singing Besame Mucho. He’s doing a ersatz serious voice but it’s exactly what is required to make that sound. And he could do a lot for a long long time. A remarkable gifted musician. No question

Biggest change seems to be between 2010 and 2014. In 2010 he sounds fairly normal, maybe a little bit of limitation to his vocal range, in 2014 he sounds a lot older. In 2018, he was able to change his phrasing of certain words or go into falsetto to hide sections of songs he could no longer do the same, but in 2022 he can't even do that. Paul can tour forever as far as I'm concerned, but its hard to listen to.

it is very painful, but then again, many people would probably be ecstatic if his band would be performing with Paul's ashes in an urn onstage beside them., ''because it's Paul'' . "But the Emperor has nothing at all on!" said a little child. "Listen to the voice of innocence!" exclaimed his father; and what the child had said was whispered from one to another. "But he has nothing at all on!" at last cried out all the people. The Emperor was vexed, for he knew that the people were right; but he thought the procession must go on now! And the lords of the bedchamber took greater pains than ever, to appear holding up a train, although, in reality, there was no train to hold.

I was fortunate enough to see him on the '02 tour. I was a little apprehensive about how his voice would sound even back then, as the "Paul Is Live" album, recorded during his '89 tour, featured Paul sounding pretty rough around the edges and some noticeable strain in the high notes. Fortunately, his voice was actually stronger in 2002, something I can hear even in these short clips. I would have loved to have seen him earlier, still, but I still think I was damn lucky to have seen him when his voice was still comparatively strong (not taking away anything from those seeing him now--- like you, I'd be happy just to be in the same room with him, but I can't afford $450 for nosebleed seats).

It would be an honor if Paul just stood on stage and waved, let alone to have the privilege to hear him play and sing. To get just an in-person glimpse of a legend the likes of whom you will literally never see again when he’s gone. This man and his original bandmates, John, George and Ringo changed the entire landscape of pop & rock music and for the kids out there, they did it in essentially 8 total years if you include when Ringo joint; 6 years from a US introduction perspective. In a mere 6 years, The Beatles grew from “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to “The Long and Winding Road” and everything in-between. No autotune, no digital gimmicks, just raw talent and genius ingenuity. Paul, just with the Beatles alone, Wings hits not withstanding, has to his credit totals of 20 No. 1 singles and 19 No. 1 albums, numbers which have never been matched by any artist and likely never will be.

I saw Paul McCartney live in Los Angeles in late 1980s and to me it was obvious he could no longer sing the rockers like he once did. His singing has gone downhill from there. He was still singing well for Back to the Egg in 1979. Not sure about early 1980s. Let's be honest: No one is ever going to tell McCartney he has lost his voice, so he will likely keep going until he dies. If he did get feedback and took it to heart, he might limit himself to the easy ballads. But that is clearly not the case, as he still sings Helter Skelter.

Some degradation from age would be normal and to be expected. But I’ve long suspected there’s something else going on with Paul’s voice. It’s the throttled sound and uncontrolled wobble - I think he may have a voice problem such as spasmodic dysphonia, something that would create the serious issues he has singing even low notes properly. It’s a real shame, but he was great for a long time.

Paul's still rockin' on. I saw him live in 89 and his voice was in best shape. In his 70s he added more vibrato at the end of long tones to cover up his lack of holding them constantly. But that's okay for me, because he still sings this songs he wrote as a young man. And if you actually hear him at the "Got Back-Tour" 2022, still singing songs like "Birthday" or "Helter Skelter", he still sounds powerful and full of energy. And by the way, this man is 80 years old! My greatest respect and admiration to this living legend. Keep on, Paul!
