I'm doing a second comment on this video. After watching the video and giving my initial thoughts, I realized it has been quite a few years since I listened to Pipes of Peace all the way through. So I just did and I got to say I really enjoyed it. The first side was very enjoyable all the way through. The second half wasn't very strong. Average Person is less than average McCartney, but for me far from his worst. We all hear stuff our own way. Pipes of Peace was new when I was first getting into the Beatles so I bought it in 83 and played it a lot. I guess that's why my associations with it are positive. Cheers Mr. Muffin!

Nice job, Larry. McCartney lost his rock fan base after the terrifyingly bad trilogy that was Pipes of Piss, Broadstreet, and Press To Play, all of which are in a three way tie for worst albums of the 1980s! And speaking of Average Person, what is McCartney’s obsession with zoo animals?

I thought the title track Pipes of Peace was an epic track and one of the best of his solo career. I liked Driving Rain when it came out because I wanted to like it really bad. After a few listens I retired it and haven't listened to it for 20 years. Kisses on the Bottom wins the prize for worst McCartney album. Worst song? Lots of stinkers to pick from. Biker Like an Icon never did anything for me. Big thumbs down on Wonderful Christmastime. Never liked it. I’ll put it just behind Tug of War, and ahead of McCartney 1 and 2 (both of which im not that big into) or any of his subsequent releases. It’s a very 80s cheesy pop album, but there are some great elements like the production. Underrated album

I hear what you’re saying about the “Pipes Of Peace” album, it does have a sugary sweet corny-ness to it overall, but I also feel that it has George Martins production going for it, and Paul still has his effortless melodies and hooks kind of going for him at that point in his career. I like “Driving Rain” more.,, that being said, I think “Freedom” may be his all time worst song, in my opinion..

Driving Rain is a real powerhouse to me. A strong and long playing album that never bored me. Maybe the cover art work could’ve been a bit more worked out, but that doesn’t really count for my high rating in the end.- And now I have to confess something opposite to your thoughts on Pipe Of Peace: I really like it, no, I admire it! One of me first vinyls bought at the time of its release and one of the founding stones of my lifelong fandom of The Beatles & Solo. Listening to it now while writing this memories are coming back to me buying this album as a teenager and enjoying it at home in my room. But it’s not only private kitsch or self indulgence that make me enjoy this album: The Other Me, Keep Under Cover, So Bad, The Man, Sweetest Little Show, Average Person is one of Paul’s strongest run of six songs in a row I remember! And Through Our Love is the most sweet and catchy sort of a Grand Finale to an album ever thinkable in these humble ears. I love these opulent Paul ballads with the big production so much. Only Once Upon A Long Ago four years later drives this a little step further.- Maybe my inner compass is somewhat disturbed but I personally rank Pipes Of Pease on the same level as Tug Of War😀Happy Easter to you🥚🙋🏻‍♂️

I like the song Average Person, Larry, I think it's got a very catchy tune but I know what you mean about the lyrics not being his best. For years I never liked the song, Spirits of Ancient Egypt because the lyrics are meaningless, "you could sell an elevator to Geronimo"?? and Wings' Getting Closer has the awful "my Salamander" lyric which nearly spoils an excellent song. Although it's a come-down from the excellent Tug of War, I still like a lot of the songs on Pipes of Peace, especially the title track, So Bad, The Man and Keep Under Cover, although I've never liked the song Say, Say, Say and side 2 runs out of steam a bit.

Pipes of Peace was originally supposed to be the other half of a double album with Tug of War (Tug of Peace?) but then it was split in two albums. Looks like Tug of War got the better songs. I think I have to agree that Average Person is below average for Paul. That's the kind of song that John Lennon might have disparaged had he still been around. I like the title track to Pipes of Peace. The video is great too and the song went to number one in the UK. Average Person is not great but Paul's a song that might rival it for worst is that Frog Song (We All Stand Together). He makes those frog sounds in that song! lol

I agree on your thoughts of Pipes of Peace (the album) and I have never liked Average Person but for his very worst song (although not technically a McCartney solo composition) would have to be Rudolph the Red Nose Reggae. A shocker. I also detest the cover of Love is Strange (sorry but Linda's vocals are not yet refined, and they are incredibly nasal) and Cook of the House is embarrassing. Th title track of Pipes of Peace though I believe is a masterpiece with its intro and outro segmenting the main body of the song.

I like Average Persons, its a funny lyric. Its a silly lyric of course but at least make sence, and I like the music. Not badxat all. Cars are cars the same its funny. Nothing else.. Press To Play maybe the most unconfortable album. The musical period during Driving Rain it's dificult to catch, the musical work during that period it's some kind of experimental and daring. Nobody notice Costello's influence during that period, even the last records had that influence. The way EC create music it's not easy to catch, not for everybody, Paul was hard influenced by this way to create music. It seems that Pipes of Pipes was created from the rest of Tug of War sessions. Tha idea was to launch the single Say, Say, Say slso product of PM and Michael Jackson sessions (remenber the Girl is Mine) and take some sinergy and advantage of the Thrillermania on that days. Money Advantage? ...of course. In this case I think The girl is mine, the man and say say say were created in the same sessions with MJ.

Anyway, I could easily make a top 20 of worst McCartney songs just as I could easily make a top 20 best songs. Btw, I bought a compilation album last year of 50s and 60s rock artists and there is a song called Bip Bop Bip by Pretty Boy….perhaps the inspiration for Bip Bop?
