Geoff Emerick said that John "openly and vocally detested" it.

I think Paul has gotten really good at honoring John’s memory without deifying him or trashing him. To me, it sounds like he graciously discussed John as he knew him without spite. I’m growing to respect Sir Paul more and more these days.

ArtFlunky. I agree. He is very honest and humble to say John had created the very intro of the song in the first sit down after the other 3 were struggling to get it off the ground. That is how collaboration is done.

ArtFlunky I think Paul and John were as brothers. They first time they met they were The Quarrymen (1958) and they were friends until the sad death of John in 1980. Awesome interview and you are very right in what you posted here.

Paul never trashed anyone. John was the guy that said things like that. I don't think Paul cares about what people think. Not saying he does not have a bad heart. Having a big heart can make someone a target for nuts. George Harrison sure knew that. Beatles did all there was to do IMO. Also a Stones fan and after 1970 they never were what they were in 1965. Beatles took a bow and made many great solo records. Had that idiot not shot John in 1980 they would have made new music. Now that George has passed "The dream is over" . Long happy lives to Paul and Richard.

Avenged Sevenfold releases these “breakdown” episodes on KZread where they go through each song and talk about how everything was written and they isolate the tracks Individually and discuss it. It’s brilliant, every band should do it

He was out there looking 'round for it.

Paul’s expression at the very end when he says, “it really was a great memory”. You can tell he’s reliving that awesome moment just a little bit all these years later. The unfathomable vault of magic that his mind must be is beyond incredible. What a legend!

I think he was imagining coming in at that part playing his bass. He sung the notes to it, he just couldn’t mimic it very well.

After Paul said “what a great little memory”. I felt sad for him not being able to sit next to John and reminisce about songs like this one during an interview.

What a fucking amazing interview that was. Paul has been in the studio for Howard a few times but this was one of the best ones ever since Howard asked about the creation of so many songs. I also loved how Paul will dispel the many rumors that have gone around over the years. So great! Love him.

This is so true. Decades of other interviewers asking Paul the same questions and Paul rehashing the same guarded scripted lines, but Howard gets most of the hidden treasures from him. Such as asking him about John and rumors of homosexuality. Truly fantastic interviewer

Absolutely. Many many years ago when Howard was still on TV and radio both, I started basing my opinion of a celebrity on how they were in his interview. Two examples: Chevy Chase turned out to be a total dick and Heather Locklear (please keep her in your prayers and good thoughts) was totally charming and funny on top of being a babe.

Paul played Ob-La-Di in Montreal on September 20th (2018, two months ago) and the already Wild crowd went Crazy!!!

In recent years it's often been McCartney telling us what be added to Lennon songs, so it's very refreshing to hear what John contributed to O Bla Di !

It drives me crazy when people trash “Ob la di...”. They don’t understand that the song was absolutely perfect for the white album, and that it made the darker songs on the album, even darker. Having a song as upbeat as Ob la di, and then having songs like Dear Prudence and Cry Baby Cry and Helter Skelter is what makes the album so great. It makes the album so strange and enigmatic. And even discounting all that, Ob la di is a fuckin brilliant pop song. That’s one of the most infectious melodies ever.

I love Paul. Alway so giving of his stories into the Beatles and his relationships with the members. He is always so upbeat, even after devastating losses of his mother, John, Linda, and George. Others as well.

They ALL saved each other's days. Just to name a few. Paul saved John by creating the bass line for "Come Together" John said it completely changed the song for the better. George saved Paul with the acoustic guitar intro and solo in "And I Love Her" Paul said it changed the song for the better. Ringo creates classic drum lines for songs like "Come Together" "Ticket to Ride" immediately marks those songs distinct from any before or since. They were a complete band, complimenting each other. No single person had it all or did it all.

Met him in the summer, he was an absolutely LOVELY guy.

The 4 boys really loved each other and wrote the greatest page in the whole entire history of show biz together

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da has always been one of my favorite Beatles songs. During the recording of The White Album, things were tense and they weren't always getting along, but at least on this song, The Beatles seemed to be having a good time. Is just an uplifting positive song!👍

This clip is the key to life if you ask me. If you don't get it. Get some new eyes on it. Or just walk way and come back with some fresh ones of your own. RIP John & George !

I always used to think Howard was just a crazy shock jock that only did things for the weird factor of them, but I've recently watched a bunch of interview snippets here on KZread and he's a damn good interviewer. His demeanor. His questions. His overall attitude. Great stuff. I've always loved Paul, too, so this was especially good.

These two get along well. I can tell Howard is totally in love with McCartney, and McCartney really enjoys being around Howard.

Howard Stern has a chemistry interviewing Paul. He's gotten away from the tawdry stuff, and does some good things. Spontaneity was an integral element of McCartney's work with the Beatles. Most of the time, it worked out brilliant.

I can't get enough of hearing Paul's recollections. Song writer/story teller. Fabulous.

I read that the three of them Paul, George, and Ringo had been working on the song for hours playing it at a slow tempo, then Lennon came in and sat down at the piano and played it fast. And of course, that is how they did it.

Paul told the cleaned up story. The more honest one was that John stormed out of the studio in a huff sick of playing the song and then returned stoned out of his mind yelling "...AND THIS IS HOW THE FUCKING SONG SHOULD GO!!!" banging the intro on the piano while Paul (according to Geoff) looked like he was about to take a swing at him

The story is that John liked the song, but he got sick of it after recording it for two weeks.

Paul looks magnificent. A fine wine.

What I love most is all these years later we still have living legend Paul around to share these stories of historic Beatle moments. In my mid-50s it seems as though the Beatles were another lifetime ago. Yet Paul's still here (and aging incredibly gracefully) to give us his views on such an amazing era.

Love the song then and hearing how it started, i love it more now. ❤️ not to mention how Paul told the story , so cuuute😊

John and Paul, you guys were and always will be the best along with George and Ringo.

Paul talking so fondly about working with John is one of my favorite things

This is how they worked. They may have been more individual when it came to song writing but they all contributed to make each of the songs better. The songs success was the band’s success and was a representation of The Beatles.

This just warmed my heart with joy

I remember hearing this interview when I was driving back to NorCal coming from SoCal driving up at I-5. it was delightful interview. Howard really wanted to spend more time with the Legend.

John wouldn't like a song on Monday, love it by Wednesday. That's just how he was. Maybe it was a put-on, but the quotes show it. Love that, even if it didn't leave it clear exactly what he liked and what he didn't.
