When you go through something with another person(s), there is an intimacy you share that only you and they understand. The others 3 were his family for over 10 years. This is just like a marriage you don't want to end. Amazingly, Paul was only 26 years old at the time, really still just a kid in a lot of ways. Can you imagine (unintentional)? He was scared to death that his life was going to be totally upended and change completely, with none of those guys being there with him on a daily basis. The life he had know since he was 15.

So sad. Everything they went through together as a group to be ruined by Yoko Ono. They made Revolver together, they did rubber soul. Went on the magical mystery tour. They made A Hard Days Night. All the hours they played together in Germany. Paul knew it was over. What a shame.

Oh shut up with that Yoko broke up the band shit. It’s a tired narrative with hints of either sexism or racism that I though would have been dispelled after the series came out, but apparently not. John was in love, plain and simple. If we didn’t want her to be there, she wouldn’t have been. But he did, and so she was. He wanted to focus on his new relationship and new musical ideas, not the one he’d been workin on for the previous 8, hard and very long years.

Just so you know, they were talking about George here. Yes, John also didn’t attend this session, but George is the one who they’re discussing in regards to trying to get him to come back. I feel so bad for Paul when I see this… You can see that he’s feeling so many emotions at once. He’s hurting, he’s frustrated, he’s exhausted, and he’s so so scared… He’s lost, and in both ways. He lost the fight to keep the band together, and he’s lost, not knowing what to do anymore. This is when you can truly see that he’s given up. He’s so tired… He’s been trying for a long time at this point, and all he managed to do was the opposite of what he wanted. Instead of mending the cracks and fixing things, he just made more and more mistakes, feeding the cracks, and causing everyone to turn against him. He didn’t want that to happen and in fact, it was the last thing he wanted. He just wanted to go back to the good old days, but the others were done. They were ready to move on. He knew this, but he was still holding on to a thin string of hope. In this clip though, it seems like his grip has loosened. He didn’t say almost anything after this, though for the whole documentary, he was pretty quiet. He really stopped saying anything after George left. I bet he stopped because he was scared that if he did, he’d risk losing John or Ringo, or maybe that George would leave again. I just wish I could have given him a big hug and a shoulder to cry on. I’m just grateful he had Linda. He himself said that he’d have “done himself in” if it weren’t for her and the kids, and I can see that here. If he didn’t have them, he would have been more than ready to end it all. I mean, what was the point of living anymore? I’m just glad he recovered, and he’s living his best life now! Hey, his last concert for the year is tonight (depending on time zones)! So, he’s ok. Paul’s ok. 🥲

A lot of emotions must have hit him all at once!!! George quit, John wasn’t answering his phone, leaving Paul upset, angry, confused, scared!!! The way he was shaking looks like he was having a panic attack!!! Ringo even wipes a tear from his eye!!! Also, the “And then there were two.” was taken from a different conversation where Paul said it as a joke but here, it’s very effective because you know that’s what he was thinking!!!

Super, super sad to watch. Paul was watching his friend and co-genius songwriter disappear into the dark world of heroin. As we see in the first episode of Get Back, John was a complete zombie at Twickenham. Paul must have been genuinely scared for him. And, of course, terrified that it likely meant that the band was finished.
