I was in the audience for this...Paul signed my Pipes of Peace album🙌✌️❤️ My manager was Doc Sevrensen's manager as well, so we got to go backstage before and after the show. Paul pulled up with a Black Corvette, and parked right next to Johnny's car. Mike Brislane, Mark Savalle and I were just hanging around, so when he came up he said Hello Mates.. All I could say was Hi Paul... Great Moment

To Bill, If in fact you were there, did you get the feeling Johnny was “off” that night as far as interviewing Paul? To me the conversation really went down hill from the beginning. But, that had to have been great to be there.

Too bad Carson couldn't tell him that people would be just as crazy for him in 37 more years. Saw him do a 3hr 15min show in 2015 at age 73. Never took a break and was strong the whole way through---and the fans were just as enthusiastic then as they were in '84. Music talent doesn't get bigger than this.

I saw him last year in New Orleans. Best night of my life! Macca and the band were perfect and didn't miss a beat. An amazing and entertaining light show, and the best stage mix I've ever heard. It was pleasantly loud, but without being obnoxiously loud like every other concert I've been too. And the craziest part is I don't think he took a break until the encore at the very end. I am so grateful (and lucky) to have seen him at least once in my life and I hope any and all other Beatle/Paul fans that love him and his music like I do get to treat themselves as well. He is on fire right now, we are so lucky

He was the only one that showed showed how the stars were in real life. But what made Johnny so special was his quick wit and impeccable timing. He was so funny he could just look into the camera and make you laugh. And when a joke bombed he was even funnier. I was late at work more times than I remember because I couldn't miss Johnny.

There is a definite tension in the air in this interview. Johnny is trying to be folksy and personable with Paul, but Paul more or less blows off the Ed Sullivan story, he blows off the typical day question and then he jabs Johnny with a "your show flopped in Britain" jab. There is no developed dialog here and no feeling that Paul wants to be chummy. I just felt what you and your friend felt nearly 40 years ago.

Astonishing to see how the audience reacts to McCartney. His first meeting with Johnny. He and John had previously appeared on the Tonight Show. Sadly, Joey Granola was hosting and it was possibly the worst interview they ever had to endure. They were polite beyond belief, though. I think they were remiss in not telling them Johnny wasn't there. Johnny seemed uncomfortable in this clip for some reason. Perhaps he was put off by Paul's demeanor towards him. Paul has always been gracious when asked about The Beatles' success but here it is, 2020, and he and the group are recognized as having changed the world. In music, fashion and culture, they have had the biggest impact. Their songs continue attracting new fans and will for decades to come.

I agree the interview was a bit stilted. Johnny was trying to be personable and Paul was looking like the promo tour was coming to an end as well as doing the cheeky Beatle thing in interviews. For some reason, Paul was cool towards the Ed Sullivan story, and you could feel a bit of static forming between them. Thank God for the audience. Without that, there would have been no levity in this interview, especially when Paul locked horns with Johnny with the "your show flopped in Britain" jab. Maybe he still had a chip on his shoulder from when Johnny blew John and him off back in the 60s!
