It's amazing that in 79', the nostalgia for the Beatles hadn't set in yet, like they were some washed up band from 10 years ago and it seemed no one in Liverpool was interested in them. Now, they rebuilt the Cavern, have Beatle museums, tours etc..
That’s a fantastic doc moment of the era, a gem. Wow, time passes:)
Amazing g how time changes things. Imagine Liverpool not wanting to be reminded of the Beatles! But it was only about 10 years since the Beatles broke up, so they didn’t have the time to appreciate them as punk and new wave were the order of the day. Said it before, it’s a shame this version of wings didn’t last longer, they were right! Juber and Holley were excellent additions to the band.
Wow. Paul, Beatles, enough said. I miss it when there were real artists and new and magical songs. Songs that would give you goosebumps when you would here them. Sadly, long gone.
What a voice!

Great stuff here. Thanks! I remember when Paul was in Ringo's first All-Starr Band back in the 60's.
I was at this concert right up front too.. Looking forward to seeing him for the 4th time here in Perth Australia
Saw Wings live in Orlando around '93 , amazing concert! Accidentally heard Ringo with Ann & Nancy Wilson in Boston while I'm having lunch nextdoor to the Pavilion they were doing a show at that night. As a kid my favorite song was "You're 16" Yep, I hear Ringo speaking to Ann & Nancy at full volume and their responses . Then they bust out into my 1st favorite Ringo song! The Seagulls got my lunch but I got a private rendition of my favorite song. I love Ringo, Ann & Nancy!

Enrico Snachez - Actually, that was cultural to Japan. The silence of the audience, especially in that era, was a sign of respect for the act onstage. This can be seen in a KISS show at Budokan 1977. The audience is required to sit in their seats for most of the show, but by then things were starting to loosen up.

@@vgr112261 I think the real reason is that John got spooked by some fans' (former fans') reaction to his throwaway "Jesus" comment. All the record burning and all. And they actually thought they had been shot on stage at one concert when some fireworks went off. I think John felt ashamed that his comment had brought such strife to the Beatles. And then that horrible Asian tour where they were treated very badly when Imelda perceived them to have ignored her and the Japanese fans were subdued. And that was it for him. Besides, he felt he'd already made it to the 'toppermost of the poppermost' and wanted a very long holiday. And George wanted to spread his wings and bask in the new respect he got from other musicians like Clapton. And Ringo thought it would be cool to try acting. Only Paul really loved what they had been doing all along and wanted to continue it. For him, becoming a band member was not just a means to another end (money, recognition) -- it was THE thing he most wanted to keep doing! So I think "the fans screaming" was just an excuse. All the moreso because screaming DURING songs would have soon petered out. While the Beatles were getting older and more mature, so were their original fans.
This is wonderful. Thank you so much for posting. People should be grateful to Paul , for giving us so much good music!
Long Live Sir Paul! I love you Macca!

This 79 line-up sure is interesting to listen to or to watch today. But in 1976 "Wings over America" with the three top studio albums ("Band on the Run", "Venus and Mars", "Wings at the speed of Sound") as the main setlist content where the heydays of the band. "Back to the egg" never got close! Besides, the 1976 line-up was so much tighter then the 1979 line-up and Pauls Rickenbacker Bass sounded so much better then the Yamaha he had in 1979. The 1979 line-up sure could have grown together over the years if Paul would have decided to carry on after getting out of jail ... but he had enough of Wings by then. Well ... there is a bootleg of the full Glasgow gig from that tour at solid quality and some nice surprises (Linda singing "Cook of the house" for example). Maybe one day, they will make it official release from that!

wish this Wings lineup lasted longer than it did.. at least one more studio lp
One thing that I really admire about McCartney is that he supports individual responsibility. He's dead right - anyone can go out there and make something of their life if they have the will to do it. There were too many people then and there are too many people now who believe the state owes them everything. It was bollocks then, and it's still bollocks now.
Beautiful rendition of "Every Night."
I think this London Town - Back to the egg era is the best part of his Wings period , Paul at his best .
I’m not a Wings fan but at least he kept playing Beatles songs live and keep the Beatles music alive in public for the past 50 plus years! Thank you Macca!

Paul seems shy but clearly chuffed about revisiting Liverpool. Linda has to drag it out of him that reason other than a promoter's whim is causing him to open his tour there. Meeting his old Geography teacher and the other faculty of his old school, he seems to be enjoying the moment as much as anyone. Not an emotional dude, so it sticks out for me.
Love this "Back To The Egg" line-up. They coulda gone places, those guys, if Macca didn't get busted for pot in Japan and get pushed forever into post-Wings land. Wish Paul had them play "With A Little Luck." He was in PEAK voice to tackle that song properly (live) and had a killer band to make it happen. For some reason that song doesn't seem to get any respect from Paul. It was a freaking #1 hit in the US and around the world! One of my favorite post-Beatles songs and he never plays it live, and never has from what I've seen. I don't get it. For this particular show, it had only been a year since that song was #1. I loved Wings at the time but I have to admit, I found "With a little luck" really quite a twee, boring song that just seemed to go on and on. It was like he was trying to use the same 'algorithm' he used for "Silly Love Songs", Let em in" and "Listen to what the man said" but it just didn't hit the mark at all. Great singer, great bassist, great songwriter but sometimes (quite often in fact) he could be extremely twee. On Back to the egg, for example, "Winter Rose" and "After the ball" - dear god! When I heard those I thought "Wtf?" The "Rockestra Theme" also was just a never-ending 'da da da - da.. da'.

Love this video! So well put together! Brings back great memories of the 1960s and 1970s!
This is amazing. As someone who was born in ‘77 and with one of my earliest memories being the death of John Lennon, I never knew what it was like for the Beatles to be anything but as popular as they have been since John’s death. I have long wondered whether the Fab Four would have meant anything in a post punk world if John had lived. This is a strange and alien perspective given the god like status they hold today. Yes they were all brilliant, but how much of their popularity is due to the death of John. The fluctuation of fortunes for Wings is also apparent from this. I was under the wrongful impression that they remained as massive as the ‘Wings Over America’ tour and the McCulough/English lineup was. It’s easy to see how things fizzled out after the Japan bust. Very very interesting, thank you.
