Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice speaks before his team plays host to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final in Sunrise on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The Panthers lost Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night to the Oilers, but remain a win away from the Stanley Cup and holds a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Game 5 of the Cup Final is Tuesday at 8 p.m. (ABC) in Sunrise.

Edmonton took a 2-0 lead in the first before Vladimir Tarasenko got the Panthers back into it.
The Oilers led 3-1 after the first and 5-1 when goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled in favor of Anthony Stolarz.

Clinching a Championship at home is not the same as on the road, as seen in last nights NBA Final. The home team can only seal a 7 game series at home in game 5 or 7. The away team can close at home on #4 or 6. Great opportunity to close a Championship at home for Florida tonight. Edmonton will have to play like they did in #4.....and Florida not likely to repeat their game 4 performance.

The reason people are suddenly favoring the Oilers is because they made up their entire deficit in the series IN ONE GAME, it almost doesn't matter that Florida's up 3-1. Florida needs to play as desperate as if they're down 1-3 tonight.

Well yes I think it completely matters. Once the Oilers went up 5-1 in the 2nd period… Panthers were just wanting to get home for Game 5. You reach a point where you know it’s over and to your point, we didn’t have that desperation. They weren’t playing lockdown, full strength hockey at that point. You run the risk of injury, etc. Gotta play with the desire to close out tonight! Go cats!

@@alexeatspandasthis is exactly right. The Panthers had decided to lose the game (as in stop trying) once they pulled Bob. Anything that happened beyond that doesn’t matter. They were saving themselves for game 5 because why blow your load in a game you don’t need to win?

I am a Finn and Cats fan, but I do doubt that the series are over after today’s match. 9-1 is shambles and it’s about some players not giving all they have. Thinking Barky, Reinhardt Ekman Larsson, verhege will do the the magic. No, everyone must be 100 % committed to shut the central area.

The hockey world has been so biased against the Panthers the whole series. So obviously anti FL it’s been very hard to take. The networks should have had better representation for this team and not just ex Rangers/ oilers players . It’s been so unfair and not enough credit has been given to the Panthers. Enough is enough. Come on boys- let’s stick it to them tonight so they have to eat their words. .

Refs tried to steer the game and the Oilers scored short handed and twice because the refs didn’t call penalty which led to goals off the rush. lol 😂
I think the Panthers are in trouble. Oilers found a way to score big. It’s 10-1 in the last 4 periods?!?! What’s going on!
