We all know that Paul is incredibly talented but what I like about him the most is how humble and down to earth he is. Nothing but respect for the guy.

They all pretty much learned from Michael Shenker and that's a fact....listen to the opening of this song!!!! There are video's I've seen of Shenker where he does like a 20 second riff that's nothing he actually plays in songs he writes ...Shenker is the Goat

Just watched cliffs of dover live, again, yes. bends, vibrato...so perfect. when you have a vibrato you can set a clock to, you have Vibrato.

One could hear a lot of both to be honest, wheb Paul play licks which Ynwie don't like to use, it scream Paul, but then he goes into licks Ynwie would use, it's all Yngwie, just makes me think they both should have one stage performance together, it would be great

I can’t understand why Paul Gilbert isn’t more famous, same w/ Mr Big, truly a supergroup. Paul can play anything, one of my all time favorite guitarists.

Even his fast picking arpeggios are clean af! Top tier all day long.

Hey…at 54 years old and growing up in the 80’s every guitar player and their brother were shredding and bending on every song…BUT out of all those crazy years very few guitarists stood out above the rest and stood the test of time and Paul Gilbert was like a master teaching pre schoolers and he’s still here today winning over new fans. He’s THE genius! My 5 favorite master guitarist in order are Paul Gilbert Rik Emmett Randy Rhoads Yngwie Melmsteen and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Can anyone explain to me how he does to make all his live performances even more ass-kicking than the studio ones?

Because of his stage presence. Musician's best friend and if not its an acquired "thing" after doing so much live performance throughout the years. The confidence and the crowd knowing he is a badass. I think that explains it🤣

agree! also - you should hear their version of "While My Guitar Gently Sleeps" with Yellow Mustard something.. he played with DreamTheatre's Mike Portnoy. That version/cover is sick and full of PG's master guitar playing, in a really awesome pop rock melody.

One of my favorite shredders ever. Not just because of his incredible shredding, but he has the most insane bends and vibrato. That paired with his tone, just amazing.

Paul Gilbert is hands down the greatest guitarist of all time. Like his music or not (and I'm not a huge fan of his music, I like his music, but I love his seemingly unparalleled ability), he is better than anyone who has ever picked up a six string. He can literally do anything and everything, and he does it better than anyone else who has ever done it.

PG was pissed off when the crowd laughed at him when he said he had made it easy form. So he burned his whole energy in this performance and the legend has been born

5:30 to 6:00 completely blows my mind....the entire song is amazing but when he tilts that guitar back to play that and that look on his face and his right hand....OMG

In my opinion Paul's stuff is way more interesting that Yngwie not to mention of all the virtuoso guitarists out there watching Paul's mechanics he makes it look so deceptively easy and his compositions are far more catchy than anything Yngwie has done in 25 years still dig Yngwie but Paul is way more diverse . I can really hear the influence he had on Buckethead especially when it comes to monstrous epic riffage

I don't think anyway is doubting Malmsteem's technical ability, but a lot of his songs are pretty repetitive and in my opinion don't hold as much diverse, melodic, beauty as Paul Gilberts or even Jason Beckers. I think that is where Paul Gilbert wins. You notice that in this song Paul isn't just doing scales the entire time, but adding more emotion.

No, but secret to Paul play is really simple, not driving the notes too fast, or too slow. You just fit them in the tempo, and do the normal scale runs with very slight variations or any variation you like. Paul is really doing the master-easy by the book job, that's why he is too good.

Paul is a great composer and is amongst the greats as a guitarist. Man!! He's just an awesome player. His riffs, chops,technical prowess is otherworldly. A virtuoso he is.

These were probably finger exercises before he decided to turn it into a song.

my feeling was that the backing track ended/paused, he solo'd for as long as he wanted and then gave the sign for the track to continue at 5:52. I could be wrong, but it was just the way the track came back on just after the hand movement

being a good instrument player is a one thing, but being able to compose is even greater, he's got all of this.

He didn't really dedicate this to Yngwie, he wanted to play a duet with him and Yngwie declined. Paul Gilbert had already played with his hero (Shawn Lane) at the NAMM show. They played Let It Be and Paul let Shawn take the whole spotlight. There were also other instances, but Yngwie and Paul have never played together which is sad because they are some of the greatest to hit the stage and I would pay to see it, but Paul even said once "Shawn Lane is the most terrifying guitarist of all time."

In today's day and age, Paul Guilbert is a god among guitarist. He never ceases to amaze me. Brilliant.

After watching the whole video I understand why Yngwie didn't want to play with Paul. This would have been a tough act to beat! Paul is the ultimate Shredder, it would have been nice to have had Shawn Lane too. :-)

Shawn was amazing, I had the pleasure of chilling out with him on several occasions. Exentric to say the least. And a god heart, pretty nice guy. you gotta give those next level guys some leeway sometimes though, they're in a different place mentally. got to jam a couple lessons with him, impromptu, and fun. he'd show me some impossible shit and break it down for me. He's missed. And, oh yeah, Paul's git a fire, agressivenes that seems rate. his technique, the look of him when he plays is ruthless. prolly my favorite!

The last part is super insane but surprisingly its not hard. Its an A Harmonic Minor string skipped arpeggio. Its so funny because hes only picking three notes but because of the hammer ons and pull off it sounds like a billion. The problem of playing the lick is the cleanliness and speed. IF you have most of his string skipped arpeggios down its quite simply a slightly bigger stretch

it's a diminished arp, though it fits into a Harmonic minor scale contextually...its still just a diminished arp. Harmonic minor refers to a minor scale with a 7th raised by a half step.
