    Paul literally made Feyd the Baron Harkonnen in one stab, and while Feyd could have wanted Vladimir dead, the fact that Paul did it instead of him saved him any trouble regarding questions as to who killed Vladimir.

    “You die like an animal” has to be a callback to the Gom Jabbar; especially with how he died in the book. “An animal caught in a trap will gnaw its own leg off to survive, what will you do?”

  • @Miatpi

    @Miatpi

    3 ай бұрын

    I can see that. The “animal” is the one who fails the test and is killed by the Gom Jabbar. The baron is killed by the Gom Jabbar in the book. Never thought of that symbolism. Really cool!

  • @d-_-b8558

    It absolutely is. One of the key themes of Dune is what separates "animal" people from "human" people. The only reason Paul survived the gom jabbar and wasn't killed by the Reverend Mother then and there was because he proved himself to be sufficiently "human" by passing the test. It gets at themes of resisting/rising above instincts to plan intelligently. The Baron was cunning strategically, but all the Harkonnens are ultimately slaves to their baser instincts, the Baron especially, and even though his plan to kill the Atreides was cunning, it wasn't wise at all (based on how it backfired on him.)

    I was just wondering why didn’t Paul try to explain to the Baron that he was the Baron’s grandson? That way the Baron would have understood he was making a mistake all this time and would call off his attack? The Baron would work to help his grandson and they could rule the galaxy altogether.

    Animal also refers to the method he used to execute him which one usually does for goats and others if you don't have a gun to kill them. It's also almost ritualistic where if it was say a goat you would immediately hang it upside down so the blood would drain out.

    I always like Feyd's little grin upon seeing Paul for the first time. This is a little weird to say, but it almost feels warm. His smiles were aggressive and wicked up to this point. None of Feyd's smiles are loving at all in the entire film of course, but here at least, to me he is saying, "Who is THIS? Now THIS GUY is worthy. I want to see what he's going to do next." He is so impressed by Paul here and you can see the respect in his smile. One of the many subtle facial expressions that I appreciate from Austin Butler's stellar acting performance in this movie.

Now I see that was just a show with shit directing and even worse writing; it's hard to weave gold out of a block of shit. In this tho? He *is* the Feyd. It wasn't until after the movie I realized it was Austin Butler. I had totally misjudged in in MoA, he did his best in that with shit directing in writing - in this? Truly, you forget he's an actor.

    To be fair to Feyd, most of his battles up until now have given him an advantage. They were poisoned to move slower before the fight or Feyd would have a blade that has poison. The fight on his birthday had one Atriedies fighter who was not poisoned that day but the guy had been starved and beaten and poisoned on other days so Feyd still have the advantage. The fight with Paul was his first real fight and he managed to stab the guy twice. If Paul didn’t have Bene Gesserit training, Feyd would have won.

    The ultimate revenge of his father’s death. Similar to his dad, the Baron dies on his back paralyzed as a result of a miscalculation. Pauls father failed to identity the traitor and the Baron failed to identify the other Sietch. Two great mistakes that led to their demise. The other path held long patches of gray obscurity except for peaks of violence. He had seen a warrior religion there, a fire spreading across the universe with the Atreides green and black banner waving at the head of fanatic legions drunk on spice liquor. Gurney Halleck and a few others of his father’s men-a pitiful few-were among them, all marked by the hawk symbol from the shrine of his father’s skull.” I think we may have found the book inspiration for Denis’ version of this story.

    No. It's based on humans and their relationship to/with power and what people, organizations, institutions, etc. will do for power and control. People read a little bit TOO much into it for my taste, but to boil it down simply as Frank Herbert said in an interview: "The name of the game is power".
