Hey bud, I’m telling you watch Vince Gill sing “Go Rest High on that Mountain” live at George Jones funeral. Vince can’t make it through it and Patty Loveless is right there and starts singing for him. She’s unbelievable and that song is so good. Grab the Kleenex

Great reaction. Don't get it twisted, Patty is the OG on that stage. Not taking anything away from CS because he is absolutely awesome. Patty was just doing it so much further back in time. I agree it is great to see the mutual respect they have for each other and what each other means to the genre. On your own time you should check out Patty doing this song herself. The official video is pretty good. And, if you want a suggestion for another of her songs to try sometime, give "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" a try. Take care...

That thing is a steel guitar. This makes me proud to be from Kentucky. Such beautiful music comes from these mountains. Just a fun fact for those who don't know. Patty is Loretta Lynn's cousin. This concert happened a very short time after she passed 😢 I'm really enjoying watching your journey with country music 🎶 🎵 The music I grew up loving. I enjoy other genres but to me nothing beats a good country song

Called a pedal steel guitar. It evolved from laying an electric guitar on one's lap and using a metal cylinder on strings. Another iteration was called bottle neck, usually used with old style blues guitar, where originally the guitarist would literally break the neck off a bottle (taping the edges so the broken edge wouldn't cut your hand), place it on it on their left hand little finger and use it as a slide. Later a steel cylinder was used; a favorite technique used by Eric Clapton.

Patty looks at Chris that way because he is, in fact, such a good man. Among other things he's very generous with his time & does a lot of charity work. This concert followed devastating flooding in Kentucky. The first thing Chris did was go to the local big box store & load up his truck with supplies & set off to help people. He didn't just hand things out, either. He did anything disaster relief officials asked of him including help with cleanup. Then he organized this concert to raise relief money. He called Patty, one of his heroes, Ricky Scaggs, another hero, Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakum, S.G. Goodman & U of Kentucky football coach, Mark Stoop & others. His efforts raised $2.5 million.

Some of the emotion is due to the benefit concert being for flooding in Eastern KY. All of the artists performing were originally from eastern Kentucky. Chris was one of the main organizers and contacted Patty who was basically retired. So, being asked to sing for the purpose of the benefit, being back in KY, and she does obviously like Chris. When he introduced her for the first song he said she was the greatest female country singer there ever was or will be. When Chris was growing up in those mountains Patty was at the top of her game and was looked up to by all those mountain kids dreaming of a music career because she too was from those same mountains.

He was a songwriter in Nashville for ten years before he started singing on his own. His wife encouraged him to start singing his own songs and going out on his own. That's why I Tennessee whiskey is such a powerful song if you know the story behind their marriage. Love your reactions. I definitely agree you should listen to Vince Gill go rest high on that mountain. It was written for his brother who died and everytime I hear that song I remember my uncle who died not too long ago and he had schizophrenia. That is definitely his song and I cry every time.

I have to say that I have never heard any man so concerned about being a good husband. You said your biggest fear was failing as a husband but because you are so aware of that fear I can not see you failing. You fail at things in life when they become distant and elusive. You keep that drive to succeed as a husband and father in the forefront of your mind and as long as it is always there I think you will and have already succeeded. Thank you for your genuine and sincere reactions. You and your beautiful wife are a bright light and great examples of how people should live and think about life. Thank you again.

Pike County, Ky and Johnson County, Ky. Two enormous talents, just two counties removed. Once you look into the other US 23 artists, you will understand why it really is the country music highway.

Patty's voice is always clear as a ringing bell. How Do I Help You Say Goodbye is fabulous and the video will pull at your heartstrings. Chris is phenomenal as always. I love that he feels no need to be the big dog on stage and out-sing everyone else. He feels reverence for Patty and her talent and supports her beautifully. Mutual admiration at its finest.

I think this was especially hard for him because he had already lost his good friend and his brother. And every time you lose another friend you grieve all of them all over again, like tearing a scab off an old wound.
