Hey bud, I’m telling you watch Vince Gill sing “Go Rest High on that Mountain” live at George Jones funeral. Vince can’t make it through it and Patty Loveless is right there and starts singing for him. She’s unbelievable and that song is so good. Grab the Kleenex

Patty is one class act with the voice and range of an angel.
Great reaction. Don't get it twisted, Patty is the OG on that stage. Not taking anything away from CS because he is absolutely awesome. Patty was just doing it so much further back in time. I agree it is great to see the mutual respect they have for each other and what each other means to the genre. On your own time you should check out Patty doing this song herself. The official video is pretty good. And, if you want a suggestion for another of her songs to try sometime, give "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" a try. Take care...

How can I help you say goodbye is my all time favorite song from Patty.
This IS a Patty Loveless song from the mid 90's... She is still one of my favorites. Love ALL of her music.
Chris Stapleton "either way". The saddest most haunting relationship song.
That thing is a steel guitar. This makes me proud to be from Kentucky. Such beautiful music comes from these mountains. Just a fun fact for those who don't know. Patty is Loretta Lynn's cousin. This concert happened a very short time after she passed 😢 I'm really enjoying watching your journey with country music 🎶 🎵 The music I grew up loving. I enjoy other genres but to me nothing beats a good country song

Called a pedal steel guitar. It evolved from laying an electric guitar on one's lap and using a metal cylinder on strings. Another iteration was called bottle neck, usually used with old style blues guitar, where originally the guitarist would literally break the neck off a bottle (taping the edges so the broken edge wouldn't cut your hand), place it on it on their left hand little finger and use it as a slide. Later a steel cylinder was used; a favorite technique used by Eric Clapton.

Raised in Southeastern Kentucky (Harlan), living in Fayetteville NC now
Petty is still a OUTSTANDING singer!! She has always been one of my favorites, she absolutely deserves all the respect for her talents
Chris is always a gentleman on stage. His voice could blow anyone off the stage, but if you watch in his collabs, he always restrains himself so the other person shines. Another reason to love Chris!
God I Love Patty Loveless! Had a huge crush on her! She fills her songs with that voice. Country Artists show respect. Great Duet!

Me too, brother. She was my favorite back in the 90s. I prefer this song with George Jones singing with Patti, but this was really good too. I'm just glad to see her perform again.
I cannot wait until you hear Patty sing with Vince Gill. They have something magical when their voices blend together. “When I Call Your Name” is the best example.
Patty Loveless is a legend!! Chris Stapleton is a legend in the making!!
I think Chris was in awe of Patti, one of the purest voices in traditional country. It took me a few of her songs to understand her abilities to convey the song’s meaning.
Patty looks at Chris that way because he is, in fact, such a good man. Among other things he's very generous with his time & does a lot of charity work. This concert followed devastating flooding in Kentucky. The first thing Chris did was go to the local big box store & load up his truck with supplies & set off to help people. He didn't just hand things out, either. He did anything disaster relief officials asked of him including help with cleanup. Then he organized this concert to raise relief money. He called Patty, one of his heroes, Ricky Scaggs, another hero, Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakum, S.G. Goodman & U of Kentucky football coach, Mark Stoop & others. His efforts raised $2.5 million.

Proud Kentuckian here. What they did was amazing. That's what Kentucky does when Kentuckians are in trouble.
Some of the emotion is due to the benefit concert being for flooding in Eastern KY. All of the artists performing were originally from eastern Kentucky. Chris was one of the main organizers and contacted Patty who was basically retired. So, being asked to sing for the purpose of the benefit, being back in KY, and she does obviously like Chris. When he introduced her for the first song he said she was the greatest female country singer there ever was or will be. When Chris was growing up in those mountains Patty was at the top of her game and was looked up to by all those mountain kids dreaming of a music career because she too was from those same mountains.
Vince Gill when I call your name. Patty sings backup and it is amazing
When this song was first released I loved it because it told a story and Patty just added to it. A few years later, it took on a whole new meaning. My marriage was going thru a rough patch and this song spoke to me in a whole new way. We are still together and our marriage is stronger then ever. As for this duet - the hairs were standing up on my arms!! Such respect for each other and holding true to the sound of Kentucky!
Highly recommend: Vince Gill - When I Call Your Name. Vince’s first single. Patty was his back-up singer.
The guy is playing a steel guitar. It’s what makes country country.
u still sound fine Patty. I LUV IT. THANKU for coming out of retirement for us fans. And thanku Chris for dragging her butt out!

also thanks to SEBS. Great find
Patty has an amazing song called How can I help you to say Goodbye
Patty Loveless when retired for a few deades before Chris gave her a call. They did this one off concert and then when to CMA Awards and burned the building down with a duet of Patty's song, "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" (which you already reacted to.)
That was a hit for Patty many years ago. She had not performed in quite some time so she was actually nervous. She also was in awe that Chris Stapleton was singing her song. This was amazing. You should react to them singing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive".
I am really enjoying your reviews Patty Loveless Is without a doubt the finest female Country singer of my generation Thank you for your respect
Please do this reaction with your wife. When I call your name. Vince Gill and Patty Loveless the harmony is ridiculous.
He was a songwriter in Nashville for ten years before he started singing on his own. His wife encouraged him to start singing his own songs and going out on his own. That's why I Tennessee whiskey is such a powerful song if you know the story behind their marriage. Love your reactions. I definitely agree you should listen to Vince Gill go rest high on that mountain. It was written for his brother who died and everytime I hear that song I remember my uncle who died not too long ago and he had schizophrenia. That is definitely his song and I cry every time.
That instrument is called a steel guitar and is prominent in older country songs….George Strait has had the same steel guitar player for over 60 number one songs….I suggest any live performance from him….especially of “Amarillo By Morning”
If you want to see another legendary female country singer who was a master of the steel guitar starting as a little girl, you should find Barbrara Mandrell. She had her own variety show, Grammy's, entertainer of the year, and she could play many instruments, the older stars were always multitalented.
This song of Patty’s came out in 1995 and reached #5 at its peak on the US Hot Country Songs chart. The original official video really delivered in the lyrics. Patty can harmonize with anyone!
Yes that would be a steel guitar! This is one of my favorite Patty songs! My all time favorite is How Can I help you say goodbye. You should definitely check that song out!

How Can I Help You Say Goodbye is my very favorite! Her and Vince Gill singing together at George Jones’s funeral is heartbreaking. You know Vince had to be thinking of his brother when he was singing the song he wrote to honor his brother.

Absolutely! When Patty Loveless and Vince Gill sang Go Rest high on that mountain at George's funeral was so heart wrenching! But the way she carried the song when he couldn't sing was amazing. She knew he was hurting so she carried them!
Patty is a class act and one of the greatest female vocalists in the history of country music. She retired from recording and touring around 2010 to take care of her husband who had fallen into poor health. She has only done the occasional special project since then.
I believe Patty, had retired before this and Chris got her to come and do a few shows with him. Patty, is a legend and national treasure.
His voice just melts into her voice! That, my friend, is what a legend does! I love love love them both! Thank you for reviewing this song! Much love from Henderson Ga
Had a Crush on Patty in the 90’s when I was in my teens:)
Patty is a legend and Chris soon will be!
Seb, Country is a huge Family. They support each other, not tear each other down. The Grand ‘Ol Opry is known as The Mother Church for The Family.

Day to day American life thats where the story teller (country artists) will always go to which causes constant evolution while still being connected to every artist that has carried and passed on the torch. Country music is a living breathing and growing constant in the souls of all of us.
Two great Kentucky artists. I saw Patty in the mid 80s. She sounds better now than then
stapleton is the best concert i have ever been to
Enjoy the channel. I’d like to see your reaction to pretty much anything live by George Strait. “Amarillo By Morning”, “Marina DelRay”, “The Chair”, “Troubador”, “Somewhere Down In Texas”, “The Fireman”, “I Saw God Today”…with over 60 number 1s, just take your pick. I pretty much love them all.

Chuck, I hate how late I am to this suggestion. I can't wait to do mor George Strait. Added Love without end to the queue to do it asap.
I’ve always loved this song but I thought she should record it as a duet because lyrically is perfect for it
Both of these super good artist are from my State of Kentucky . And that would be Harlan County KY
Man Patty has a voice! If you really want to see her do a great duet, watch "Pretty Polly" with Patty and the legendary Ralph Stanley.
Chris Stapleton has an interesting duality of unique sound and the ability to blend with others . This was a good duet but the best I’ve seen with Chris was Hunger strike with Brandi Carlisle in tribute to Chris Cornell
Listen to Patty loveless and Vince Gill at tribute for George Jones singing "go rest high" ... Just beautiful and heart wrenching ...
Vince Gill was featured on the original version of this. It’s crazy good. Can’t beat Patty’s voice! ♥️ Patty and Chris are both from Kentucky. And if you like Chris you have to hear Whiskey and You. Just Chris, the acoustic and the song. Man!
He is a superb partner to sing with. He has a heart wrenching one he did with Luke Bryan called “Drink a Beer” that I’m sure you’d enjoy.

Stellar Stellar performance
Chris did a duet with Adele”Easy On Me”, it was awesome!
Patty is a legend! You said she had so much gratitude to be singing with Chris. She absolutely did because that’s the kind of woman she is BUT Chris was the lucky one here. He’s amazing and I love him but Patty is legend status. Chris will be in time!
I have to say that I have never heard any man so concerned about being a good husband. You said your biggest fear was failing as a husband but because you are so aware of that fear I can not see you failing. You fail at things in life when they become distant and elusive. You keep that drive to succeed as a husband and father in the forefront of your mind and as long as it is always there I think you will and have already succeeded. Thank you for your genuine and sincere reactions. You and your beautiful wife are a bright light and great examples of how people should live and think about life. Thank you again.
Patty looking at Chris is WHO SHE IS. She is timeless. Beautiful voice.
Beautiful amazing Patty Loveless! Lord...... sheeeez a freaking STAR!
An old O G and a newer one. Patty was singing long before Chris ever started. Patty can harmonize with anyone. It's Her song he should step back.
If you want to see just how classy and amazing Patty Loveless is, you should check out her duet with Vince Gill at the Memorial Service for George Jones. Vince Gill broke down during the song and Patty Loveless stepped right up and got him through it. She has always been such and amazing woman and I don't think she gets near the recognition she should get. Here is a link to that video if you are interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nmVl0aWvctvUgZM.html
I always wondered how this would sound as a duet.....
That was a steal guitar he was playing, Thank You Sir for your reaction hope you have a blessed day 🙏 sending you love from Lafayette Georgia 🙏 🍑
That is a steel guitar, very common in many country songs. This is actually one of my favorite Patty's songs. I agree 💯 about making sure that you talk to your spouse, remember to fall in love with them every day.
Both were born close to the same area in Eastern Kentucky. But yes, Chris is great on many levels! You got to research Patty’s past, and all the great songs, people she’s helped! You’ve missed out on so much! Plus, you need to go back and listen to the whole benefit concert in Lexington Kentucky, Chris put together to help the people of Eastern Kentucky that was flooded so bad. It’s called Kentucky Rising!
Please, let’s think about what we are seeing here. After the time off Patty had taken and still friggin kills it! Incredible!
Chris is playing Patty Loveless' song. This is truly an amazing performance!!! This song came out in 1995, he has been hearing it for a long time!!!
This song is a classic example of a couple so busy just trying to get by day to day, they end up taking each other for granted. Always remember who you chose to go through this life with and make time to insure they know it!❤️
That was a concert to raise money for the people in eastern Kentucky. There was a horrible floods that families in eastern Kentucky lost not only their homes but people died. Chris got Patti and others from eastern Kentucky to do this concert. Watch the 2022 CMA award show, they sing the Harlan song. You know Chris is from eastern Kentucky.
Always loved this song, Chris Stapleton makes it even better. Patty Loveless is one of the best from the 90's. Besides Marcus King, Chris Stapleton is my favorite. Marcus won # 1 in my heart with songs like Goodbye Carolina and Wildflowers & Wine though a few years ago.
It's a joy to watch your reactions to the country music and country musicians I love. Your site just brims with insight and intelligence and it's particularly enjoyable when your beautiful wife is listening with you. Keep up the good work.
The instrument you asked about is a steel guitar. Classic country!
How the hell can Patty still sing like she never aged a bit?!!?
Check out their duet of You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive at this same concert, it will give you chills, it's so eerie sounding but so pretty!
This concert was incredible…all KY for KY, Stapleton, Patty, Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakam and Ricky Skaggs. They all performed “Paradise” together to close the show, you should watch that video next. Amazing!!
Patty Loveless, so great!
Singers during a duet are watching the mouth of the other so they can match the harmony
Both from my home state of Kentucky❤️
the Chris Stapleton Story is so cool, if you havent read it. Patti is a Queen too. her songs, you would enjoy.
Check them out. “Doing you’ll never leave Harlen alive “. Awesome
She is a legend... Hes getting there
You should watch, You are my Sunshine, chis and his wife Morgane , talk about looking at each other with love and respect, and their version of Amanda!! Beautiful
Chris stapleton and George strait When did you stop loving me"
"Working Man's PhD." - Aaron Tippin... Same shot to the veins, man.
A special song for me from Patty was "Nothing but the Wheel." I've been there.
How can I Help You Say Goodbye? Is the BEST song of Patty’s, showcases her amazing voice and while I know you like live performances, the video is pretty cool
You've seen Patty Loveless before with Brad Paisley singing Whiskey Lullaby, she has sung duets with the greats.
Patty Loveless is my teenage years!!
You should check out their duet of " you'll never leave harlan alive" its absolutely amazing. That man could sing the phonebook and make you feel something.
I think country music singers are more supporting of each other than many in other genre's are.
The best Country singers come from Kentucky
They are both from small town eastern Kentucky.
This was for the flood victims of SE Ky. Chris is from SE KY and Patti is from Louisville. Two Kentucky answers coming together for a cause.
Amazing video and a great reaction. Thank you for this one
I remember when this song came out. Patti still sounds great! She’s a genius artist.
Patty loveless live version of you will never leave Harlan alive, where she talks about her dad who was a coal miner
Your reactions make me smile.... I love country and seeing others love it too is a beautiful thing. Thanks for the reaction.
Beautiful reaction.
You are spot on bro. Chris does a great job accompanying. He is the best.
This song is a great lesson on communication they both felt ignored.
Listen to Patti and Vince Gill sing When I Call Your Name. Their harmonies are simply out of this world
Pike County, Ky and Johnson County, Ky. Two enormous talents, just two counties removed. Once you look into the other US 23 artists, you will understand why it really is the country music highway.
Patty's voice is always clear as a ringing bell. How Do I Help You Say Goodbye is fabulous and the video will pull at your heartstrings. Chris is phenomenal as always. I love that he feels no need to be the big dog on stage and out-sing everyone else. He feels reverence for Patty and her talent and supports her beautifully. Mutual admiration at its finest.
Hi Seb u and ur wife are a joy to listen to god bless your beautiful family’s ❤
I think this was especially hard for him because he had already lost his good friend and his brother. And every time you lose another friend you grieve all of them all over again, like tearing a scab off an old wound.
Two amazing singers from Eastern Kentucky!!!
Listen to Chris Stapleton when he was in the band Steeldrivers!!! Blue side of the MTN!!!
I love this song so so much. One of my favorites in karaoke
