Jazz is always in the present. The players, long gone, are still here teaching us. Jazz is an amazing and resilient musical art form.

Mr. P.C. set the bar for jazz double bass in the 50s and 60s. Part of the Detroit Cass Tech High School triumvirate of bassists that also included Ron Carter and the original bassist with the Jazz Messengers, Doug Watkins. His sound produced from the "Maiden's Head" carved instrument that he used was just as critical to his legendary playing, as the construction of his unforgettable lines; laid out for countless titans of jazz during the albeit too brief longevity of his lifetime. His work with Miles and specifically on KOB, represents some of the finest examples of just how important his contributions to music were. His place in music history will always be remembered with an immortal appreciation, and desire to hear more.

Bob you are the best!!! AND a such a nice guy! I like all your lessons, so helpfull. If you run out of ideas sometime, you could maybe show us how the bassists used to play the traditional Count Basie style blues. e.g. "segue in c" or " I Needs To Be Bee'd With 1965" or something like that . All the best from Germany.

My trumpet teacher keeps telling me to play improvised bass-lines to really get to know the harmony but I need something formal to practice. This helps a lot.
