Patriots overcome gusty conditions in big 14-10 win vs. Bills - Skip & Shannon I NFL I UNDISPUTED

Спорт

The New England Patriots defense came up huge in the 14-10 win yesterday, with cornerback Myles Bryant breaking up a pass in the red zone in the final two minutes that sealed the victory against the Buffalo Bills. Gusty conditions led to Bill Belichick approving an offensive game plan where New England barely threw the ball, with 46 rushes compared to only three passes. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe share the biggest reason the Patriots won their big AFC East matchup.

    Exactly. They’re a top seeded team with a rookie QB in a somewhat competitive division with an average roster. Skip just can’t make sense of it because to admit that he’s a world class coach is to say he deserves more credit for those SBs. That’s also why he exaggerates how bad the Bucs were before Brady got there. To prop up Brady further.

    @@Protocity what pisses me off about people like skip ( a 70 year old man wearing make up on TV, talking about athletes doing things he could only dream of) is that if a team wins it's the QB and when a team loses like the Bills last night t's because of the QB, just like Skip nlamed Josh Allen. He never mentions the 52 other players on the roster or the dozen or so coaches, It's a TEAM game, and it's so disrespectful to all the other guys. think of all the Patriot players who have won rings over the last 20 years, and according to people like Skip it's ALL because of Brady, the man is a dinosaur and clown

    This was the exact same game plan from 2008 against the same Bills team when the Patriots got a win under the exact same weather conditions. Last night the Pats had 46 rushes, in 2008 they had 47 rushes. Both games they took the ball out of the quarterback's hands even though the 2008 team had Randy Moss and Wes Welker. This was not any slight to Mac Jones, it was situational football. It's why Bill is the best there ever was, he does whatever he needs to win and doesn't care about style points.

Jones doesn't elicit fear into the heads of opposing defenses to not cover one on one which Buffalo plays most. The only saving grace would have been the injury to White. New England has no real threat at Receiver which is why they develope a run game. Go back to Super Bowls 25 & 36. Both Belichick coached defenses where the opposing teams were high powered offenses. He employed tough defense with a ball control running game. Bill isn't masterful. He's pragmatic. Buffalo didn't adjust to the run & coupled with non pass interference call, that helped New England win. They better hope the weather id close to same when they play again or they will lose

  • @dannyofdoom1

    @dannyofdoom1

    @@herbertlewis8442 The defense did pretty well against Tom Brady and Justin Herbert, besides that Dak is the only other good passing QB they’ve played against who did really well and also has a very balanced offense in general with Zeke/Pollard, there isn’t a big sample size of good passers they’ve played so far anyways so it’s not easy to gouge but they’re a top defense for a reason right now. I think they’ll do just fine against Josh Allen in good weather with how one dimensional their offense can be without a sufficient run game. And you clearly haven’t been watching the same Pats games everyone else has been watching if you think the Pats can’t pass well when they need to. It isn’t by any means explosive but it is efficient and effective, I can also recall a lot of moments throughout the season where Mac has made opposing defenses change up their playcalling and respect his game. (Specifically when a defense is playing cover 0 leaving receivers one on one as you say, which is where he plays some of his best ball from my perspective) Pats are also ranked 7th in the league in 3rd down conversion rate and if I’m not mistaken that ranking is even higher when only taking passing plays into account. Yeah the Pats may not have any big name receivers but that group is still really solid and underrated this year, Kendrick Bourne has been a game changer lately with his amazing YAC ability and Jakobi Meyers is always a reliable target when in need of a big play/conversion and has probably been one of the better route runners in the league to a certain degree. Actually the Pats’ receivers have been one of the best in the league coming out of routes against man coverage believe it or not, and don’t forget about Hunter Henry he’s been pretty great all around especially in the red zone and Jonnu seems to be heating up as well. But yeah you’re right this team’s strength is it’s power run game and for good reason but you’re severely underestimating their ability to pass the ball and they’re still only just heating up at the absolute right time. Compare Mac and Brady’s first season so far and it’s a very similar picture all around, (stats, offensive style, etc.) not trying to say he’s Tom Brady or anything but just like Brady did when he was starting out he wasn’t anything crazy but he was able to lead the team and make plays when he was needed to make them like the final drive in super bowl 36. Buffalo definitely helped New England by not adjusting but I can’t see any way they don’t struggle even more against that offense if the weather wasn’t forcing them to run the whole game. And also don’t forget Bill did the same exact thing to buffalo in similar weather and ran the ball down their throats all game when they had Randy Moss and Wes Welker, clearly it isn’t about not having a good passing offense that’s just how Bill rolls. Mistake free football is key We’ll see what happens but I’ll take a likely healthy and fired up Pats team coming out of a late season bye over the somewhat inconsistent Bills in Foxborough any day

    The genius of Belichick was less apparent in his game plan against the Bills than in building a roster months ago that could execute that game plan. The Pats threw the ball only three times the whole game. Name any other team that has a ground game good enough to execute that strategy. No one can coach that in a week. It takes months of preparation. It doesn’t happen by accident. Belichick’s preparation and hard work are legendary. Two years after losing Brady, Belichick has the Pats on track to reach the Super Bowl. Name any other coach that can successfully revamp a team roster that fast. In Pittsburgh, Tomlin hasn’t been able to do it in ten years. Dallas has been wandering in the wilderness since Aikman retired. Seattle won the SB in 2014 and hasn’t been the same team since. Ditto the KC Chiefs. Love him or hate him, Belichick is a unique football talent, and Robert Kraft is smart enough to value that talent. Franchises around the NFL see the paradigm, but none of them can copy it. Admittedly, Belichick does have his faults, but his legacy speaks for itself. Disclosure: For the record, I am not a Pats fan or a member of Bill’s family or a Kraft family friend. I simply appreciate excellence in its many forms. Belichick is the real deal.

    So, England's defense didn't have anything to do with Allen stinking it up? Belichick been getting lucky for 20+ years. Seens QBs always seem to have off days against England more times than not. You can't be lucky for 20+ years. It was silly running the ball as well as they did, they couldn't throw a few more very safe short passes. But at the end of the day, you score more than you give up you win. Had this have been Brady throwing it 3 times and winning Skip would have called it one of Brady's greatest games. Brady knew to just run it down their throats. Why Skip Hates Belichick is odd. Brady owns every SB he won to him but one. It was Belichick he built the teams. If I remember right every year Brady had a top 10 defend in England. You don't think that helped win games?

Then he and McDaniels did conspire to make me have a season that no one saw since Andrew Luck for a rookie QB just to let me down at the most important moment. And when it's my time to shine in 50 mph gusts at freezing temperature conditions while I spent all my college career in SEC, he refuses to make me in a position where I can potentially lose the biggest game of the season, which is a proven mental crush for rookies, that might never recover from it. Belichick exploited Buffalo's weakness and showed no mercy,He and his staff masterfully coached this game on both sides of the ball. If it wasn't for the ball hitting the Patriots player's helmet (i cant remember his name sorry) this game could have easily been 14-3. They don't even hold a candle to probably the best 2 year Stretch in NFL History When the 2003 and 2004 Patriots Won back to back Super Bowls, went 34-4, and a got a 21 Game Winning Streak. Teams like that don't achieve this without Great Coaching.

    @@eddienash2095 the Bucs roster is way worse than the Patriots roster is today. The Bucs can't beat the Bills in Buffalo with the QB throwing 3 passes and completing 2 of those for 19 yards. The Bucs would get demolished if they did that. Patriots last year won 45-0 at Chargers while Cam Newton threw for 65 yds and then spent 200M in free agency and drafted Mac Jones, Stevenson and Barmore. This is (disregard the QB)- the best roster the Patriots have had since 2007/2008. They got the QB on a rookie deal and can built the roster more freely

    The craziest stat is that the 2010-2019 Pats broke the record for most wins in a decade, previously held by the 2000-2009 Patriots. Those teams must have had amazing coaches... Oh wait.

    When Skip Bayless is fixated on something he will not change his viewpoint. If the Patriots won the SB this season he would still find a way to not give Belichick credit or say his success is mostly due to Brady. He's never changed his stripes, not once, since he started on television.
