Patrick Kennedy addresses criticism from family on new memoir

Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Sen. Ted Kennedy's youngest child, has a new memoir that digs deep into his long history of mental illness and addiction. It is a story other family members did not want him to tell. His brother, Ted Kennedy Jr., called it an “inaccurate and unfair portrayal of our family.” Kennedy joins the second hour of “CBS This Morning” to discuss why he co-wrote “A Common Struggle.”

He should be proud of writing this book, Just because their name is "Kennedy" doesn't mean they don't have issues with mental health, drugs, alcohol, etc. They are just people.

I find his story touching. He's brave to speak out in the family that he's in. I hope after the time that has gone by since this interview Patrick and his brother are at peace, it's sad when there are only the two left in there immediate family!

Wow. When he starts talking about issues....he’s his daddy’s son. Keep fighting 💪🏽💪🏽 everyone in our country deserves care. White, black, old, young, disabled, mentally incapacitated, trauma patients, ptsd victims, EVERYONE DESERVES HELP! If there are firearms laws to keep us safe from violence, there should be laws to keep us safe from disease and viruses as well.

Stan Stuben, Do some research before you shoot your mouth off! Patrick Kennedy was a Congressman from Rhode Island from 1995 to 2011. His father, Ted Kennedy, was a Massachusetts State Senator from 1962 until 2009, when he died from brain cancer. Since you cannot get the basic facts correct, I am not even going to comment on the rest of your idiotic statement. Everyone of us has had some type of problem in our lives. We should not judge others for what they are going through, or have gone through. Give the man some credit for having the strength to overcome his problems, and advocating for others in the same situation.

He sounds like a dope to me. The problem with mental health benefits is that you could easily go through the whole budget paying for psychotherapy. Everybody wants it and the therapists think everybody needs it, like over 90% of the people, and it's not cheap! So how do you give 90% of the public something for free? The free stuff has to come from public tax revenues!

Double Ghod that’s what makes him a good politician, he understands that not every American is a Catholic so he doesn’t allow his religion to dictate his stances.
