The other guy died in 2000 unfortunately. He also discovered Madonna and made it pretty big.
It's good to see that Patrick Hernandez is well and living in France. I always wanted to know what happened to him since "Born to be Alive" was released in late 1970's.
It's just a brilliant song. The arrangement is exquisite.
I cant believe you picked this song to feature. This channel is the best, been following you for years!
I am so happy to see Patrick Hernandez. He is just as charming as ever. I have loved this song since its (second, disco) release and I often find myself singing it without realizing it. "Born To Be Alive" is a wonderfully infectious song and I still swivel my hips to it. Beautiful and always affecting, I can never let the deep "Born to be alive" in the chorus pass without singing along to it. Thank you, Patrick Hernandez. You truly ROCK!

Not unlike a few years later, Frankie goes to Hollywood had half the Politburo plus Reagan dancing (and whatever that is that fighting boxers do :) to the rhythms of Two Tribes. 5 years later, the Iron Curtain was down 😀
Iconic song of the 70's!!!

Wonder who liked my comment, would hope it would have been Patrick himself… 🥰
I have a very, very slight understanding of French, but I did understand him say that he did not particularly like disco music. This is funny, because I didn't like disco either, but his song was one of my favourites from that era! It's a great song! I love the sweetness of the version with the ukulele. And I very much enjoyed seeing how pretty his community is too. Thanks for posting this! 😊
how old we are now.... Remember dancing to this when I was 20 years old. Seems ike yesterday.
I love this channel. Great work every time. I dont speak any French but thank god my rudimentary Dutch helped me get through with the subtitles😂
I tried to figure out how to get the English translation for this but couldn't. This tune is like a semi- country disco song that if it doesn't lift you up then you're already deceased! The location where he did the laid back ukulele rendition is rather splendid to view.

Another route to translate it is to click on the three dots on the right side under the video and choose "Show transcript." It will pop into the right side box next to the video. Hover over the top line you would like to translate, then right click on that line and choose from the pop-up box "Translate to English." Each line will then translate itself. It is not perfect nor ideomatic, but it does a good job getting most of the French across to English. It's not as hard as it looks at first. Best of luck.
I just found and bought a copy of the 12 inch single yesterday! I bought the 45 back in the 70s. All time favorite. So happy to see him here! I know very little French and no German but I still understood.

"In the 80s I discovered this song that got into my head and then into my heart and I could never get it out, it's a love of music, Patrick Hernández a great."
I had this album when it came out. I was so young. It's a good tune.
Brilliant interview. Lovely to see Dave as a bonus!. Great song too.
With this song he didn't work anymore, he received day by day royalties for it $$$$

Nee Michael. Born to be Alive is niet.. van de Village people.

Hearing his last name, all this time, I didn't know it was a French
it has always been in my top 5 if not top 3 of the disco era which i dont dislike but isnt my favorite genre.
Its a fun song to celebrate life

Dude, it is Dutch broadcasting for Dutch audience, so the language is Dutch. Although English is the lingua franca (most common international language), that does not mean that everything is in English. And if you are little bit handy you can operate the translation app down below. I also speak German as my second foreign language, also I am learning French by translation written French I find in YT videos. On social media I try to read Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish and Portugese and then I have it translated. There are always some international same or similar words I can understand. But I understand that you have been living all your live in a English mono linguistic environment, so foreign languages are complete foreign to you.
