WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

    Do they look different from what a perfect averaging of their parents features ought to look like? Are they taller than both parents? Do they have a sibling which ISN'T an identical twin? If so, then you have two individuals who are both drawn from the same pool of genes that didn't turn out identically TA-DAAAA variation! Ever seen the product of two pure bred dogs of different breeds?

    Wow, just wow. Imagine the level of disconnect that you need to say: Well, I'm just guessing. Everyone is just guessing. I don't really know what sort of evidence there could be. And then say that not accepting a wishy washy guess is equivalent to faith. Here we have a person who is so enamored with their definitions that they're just jumping at any slight misstep to claim his position is the right one, and that those they disagres with are wrong by an equal measure.

    I am an atheist. What would allow me to believe in the existence of God? I actually have an answer: If I had a brain injury that destroyed my ability to think in logical and reasoned arguments, and believe with minimal or zero evidence of whatever the discussion was about, then I could believe in the argument that a God exists. The problem is that even if that happened, the actual objective evidence of the existence of a God is still not provided. That is a major problem, no?

    Pantheism like this is so annoying to me. Their arguments are always so vague and empty, bc they refuse to make any actual claim they'd have to defend. They just lug that goal post around with them and act like it makes perfect sense. "The universe is a natural god, so there's nothing supernatural about it." Nothing more obnoxious than believers insisting that it takes faith to be an atheist (newsflash - it doesn't). It's not just the ignorance in that statement, but also how telling it is that they see faith in such a negative light that they feel obligated to put that bad label on atheists to even the score. I have more respect for people that just admit that their faith is a very important component of their belief system and have the critical thinking skills to also know that atheists don't have that gene.

    Evidencing a god is easy. Just produce your deity for examination, testing, and questioning to see if it can live up to all of the claims made for it. As fas as I can tell, gods are only subjectively real, they exist only in the minds of individual believers, and every believer appears to have a unique god. If any god is objectively real, if that god is a part of objective reality, the reality that we all share, then presenting it for scientific examination should not be a problem at all.

    Frustrating though these theist callers often are, they serve a useful function in demonstrating the repetitive dishonesty of their arguments. Because that seems to be all they've got, ever, I've gradually become disinclined to give theists the benefit of the doubt, and instead now have the habit of looking for the core fallacies in their arguments. These aren't hard to spot. Most are extremely unsophisticated, but even the relatively sophisticated ones turn out, in my experience, to be based on bare assertion or question begging, at base, covered over by some kind of smokescreen, deflection, or simple unintelligibility. In a world of Internet scams, it's good practice to spot the fallacy. I find it relaxing, like doing a crossword puzzle.

Pantheism adds in the -ism suffix, which refers to the state of belief. A PANTHEON is list of “all the deities.” That is, all of the deities a group of people collectively respect or worship is their PANTHEON. PANTHEISM is the belief that the deities ARE everything. @@norswil8763 Yes. I was having fun. A more complete explanation of my comment follows. There are two distinctly different mythic systems. One posits that a creator god is separate from its creation. Consider Christianity in this category. All one can do is form a relationship with the god, you look outwards and here is a book that tells you exactly what the god wants you to do. The other system posits that the ground of our being is, not a god but some form of consciousness. In this kind of system you look within to find the ultimate reality. I find that many "pantheists" who call in, stating "the universe is god" fail to realise that they are part of that god, part of the universe. Consider Hinduism wherein atheism is a valid spiritual position. Patrick in this video, although he doesn't state it, argues on the assumption that there can be separation of humans from the universe. He clearly does not understand his stated worldview.

A particular action or choice is immoral or wrong when it diminishes happiness, wellbeing, or health and causes serious harm or suffering. Morality does not need religion. The world would have been much better off without religion stifling scientific progress for over a thousand years. How many millions have died in history in the name of religion? How has any god helped the millions of women and children that die or suffer from abuse each year? Go to a children's hospital and tell all the children and parents there that their suffering for months and years is a god's will.

    First ten numbers (0, 1, 2, 3,...9) First ten dimensions (0D, 1D, 2D, 3D...9D) Newton: "0 is contingent/not-necessary" 🚫 and "1-9 are necessary" 🚫 (this is the basis of Newton Calculus/Physics/Geometry/Logic). Leibniz: "0 is necessary" ✅ and "1-9 are contingent (on their predecessor)" ✅ (this is the basis of Leibniz Calculus/Physics/Geometry/Logic). [Info on Zero]: Is zero the most important number? Zero is the most important number in mathematics. Zero functions as a placeholder. Imagine a number, e.g., 5 and put as many zeroes behind it as you can think of. Zero drastically changes the value of the number from a mere 5 to 50, 500, 5000, 50000 and beyond. Which is the greatest whole number? There is no 'largest' whole number. Every whole number has an immediate predecessor, except 0. A decimal number or a fraction that falls between two whole numbers is not a whole number. Why is it impossible to divide by zero? The short answer is that 0 has no multiplicative inverse, and any attempt to define a real number as the multiplicative inverse of 0 would result in the contradiction 0 = 1. Is 0 a rational number? Yes, 0 is a rational number. Since we know, a rational number can be expressed as p/q, where p and q are integers and q is not equal to zero. Thus, we can express 0 as p/q, where p is equal to zero and q is an integer. Is 0 A whole number? The whole numbers are the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on (the natural numbers and zero). Negative numbers are not considered "whole numbers." All natural numbers are whole numbers, but not all whole numbers are natural numbers since zero is a whole number but not a natural number. Why is 0 a good number? Zero helps us understand that we can use math to think about things that have no counterpart in a physical lived experience; imaginary numbers don't exist but are crucial to understanding electrical systems. Zero also helps us understand its antithesis, infinity, in all of its extreme weirdness. 🔘 ♾ ☯️ [Newton vs Leibniz]: Do you agree with Newton that "0 is contingent" and "1-9 are necessary"? Newton was a fraud and a moron. Clearly (shown) his logic is flawed at the fundamental level. (9 is contingent on 8, 8 is contingent on 7, and so on with the exception of 0; necessary) So why are we learning Newton's backwards Calculus/Physics/Geometry/Logic? [Newton vs Leibniz Calculus]: What is the difference between Newton and Leibniz calculus? Newton's calculus is about functions. Leibniz's calculus is about relations defined by constraints. In Newton's calculus, there is (what would now be called) a limit built into every operation. In Leibniz's calculus, the limit is a separate operation.

    A Simple Explanation Of Exactly Why Atheism Is A Faith: Sure, an atheist has a faith concerning God, they disbelieve God and that is a stance and decision about what the agnostic considers an "unknown," and an error in logic... but that is a faith in an absentee God, but they won't admit it, because they know to do so would be a faith. They say a lot of times, "What I'm saying is 'I don't believe you.'" but that's more of a hard rejection of a claim. The agnostic would say, does say, "I'm not sure if I believe you or not." It's not an opinion about God at all. The atheist and Theist has an opinion, and an Opinion is the definition of faith. It's not a "fact." It's a faith (opinion).

  • @saikoakuma

    @saikoakuma

    2 жыл бұрын

    The hard rejection would be, “I believe your claim is false.” You would know that if you understood logic as it is properly employed. Instead you equate faith to opinion and expect the rest of us to take you seriously. It’s unfortunate we don’t have an accepted label for those that believe no god exists aside from hard atheism, because then it would shut people like you up, at least until you start playing “Guess My Usage” with words again.
