Patrick Analo is a true statement of fact. He represents science and development. Only such people in offices will develop Kenya and not those who will encourage fragmentation of land in rural areas for residential purposes instead of agricultural farming to feed the cities. Kenya hasn't seen highrise buildings yet. Out there 70, 80, 90, and above story buildings are normal. Wake up Nairobi people.

very true. Kenyans always hate those who bring ideas that don't conform to their daily way of doing things. It is an African thing. So, when people like Analo bring good ideas. they are quickly ridiculed. I guess Africans just love chaos, i.e. Matatu kind of mentality.

I agree with you about the plans but his communication skills are zero. His plans will work out if he carries the people with him and he can only do this by educating, informing, communicating. Otherwise even phd studies have been done on the role of participative communication in development and how it can make or break the grandest of plans.

Then he needs to find an Aaron like Moses did. Let’s not unfairly characterize Kenyans as ‘like being lied to.’ As a person in leadership, he needs to find a way to communicate what he needs to … he can be media trained for one to enable him respond to queries but the council should perhaps consider having more ways to put out this kind of information before people start speculating and then they have to defend themselves after the fact. As I said, I agree with you in that he put out the right information but I remain critical of his communication style and it will hurt his efforts.

I'm glad that there is a Minister who from the good of his heart, directed that Highrise buildings be allowed in Kilimani/Kileleshwa. Granted. But did he also consider the effluent system? The problem with Africa is that our understanding of a slam is limited to Mathare/Kibra/Nima/Ashiama. Kilimani/Kileleshwa is basically a highrise slam. And all those highrise buildings are empty because the developers used the opportunity to "clean" their looted funds.

This is the new trend of leadership and public administration. Highly educated, trained and knowledgeable individuals in positions of authority, deliberately and knowingly using all this tools in there disposal to obfuscate principles and excuse mediocrity in the name of expediency. This is intellectual defeatism and will result in unworkable, dysfunctional and corrupt system mired in daily confusion, explosion of boundless costly problem spots and creation of avoidable future conundrums in growth sustainability. Eventually it will create a bottleneck in planning and development path where the daily preoccupation of local govt is expensive solution to untangle itself, instead of well design growth trajectory as is evident with our nonchalantly excused past failures. Adversarial approach to issues of public concern is not the right skill set for public service. We must be humble, ethical, accountable and have an above board, balanced, professional response to solutions. Some arguments and thought processes exhibited herein would thrive in the murky competitive egotistic world of private sector.

County should set up systems in which grievances are addressed promptly and approval processes become public participatory. Objective complaints and concerns that developers can’t mitigate should be documented and every developer when submitting proposals for development control, should attach such mitigations and frameworks on how it will be implemented There should be conditional clauses that allow suspension of permits of such development that won’t follow the rules

Call this guy again and open the lines for questions. If the plan was from 1938...what have they done to mitigate the current situation in thr entire of Nairobi.. Rezoning Kilimani, lavington, etc to highrise building is resulting to these cities bevoming slums. The eadtlands werr better in the colonial era upto late 70s. These guys they never plan anything and learn nothing...bure kabisa

It's the belief that "You people don't know enough -- if only you let me explain you'd know better. So please just listen and agree with me -- are you what you need to hear before I even came here." It comes across as ARROGANCE.

This gentleman is useless. His theory does not match the reality on the ground. He keeps dodging legitimate questions with theoretical nonsense. You cannot put up large buildings that are not supported by adequate infrastructure. Loading up a city with high end, high rise buildings that has the vast majority of its population in low income barely sustainable existence is simply silly. This guy has too much english with no substance in reality. Most of the high rise residential buildings in Nairobi are just hiding corruption money.

Indeed. The corruption angle has been overlooked in planning. How to solve this?

You cannot say that you develop first and then later lay the infrastructure. Where then will you lay the infrastructure after the greedy developers have built even on the sewer lines? This guy is incorrigible.
