It's been 2 months since my 1st extraction, the left eye. Excited about being able to read an eye chart w/o glasses for 1st time in 30 years. It's been 3 weeks since right eye was done. Will still need glasses to read & correct astigmatism as I could not afford the Toric lens implant. But still thrilled about the vibrant colors. Didn't realize before surgery how dim my vision had become.

This creeps up on you very, very slowly over the years, but the best way to recognize something's up with your vision is at night, street lights and such have a 'mist' around them as if on a foggy or drizzly night, but it's dry weather, not foggy or drizzly. Once you finally notice it, it'll never go away until you get your surgery.

KZread popped this one up for me because I had been looking at some cataract related content previously. The title on this one caught my attention. I wanted to see what this person had to say about her experience with cataracts as well as the corrective surgery. I was floored actually, she described symptoms and her reaction to having had the surgery and the extent her clear vision was restored and it exactly matched my experience. The very first thing I noticed when I sat up from the surgery table was the colors. I was dumbfounded by the rich colors that I had been missing for gosh knows how long. And I do photography. I am amazed in my world every day with the results of eliminating the cataracts. This was a nice video. I enjoyed relating to the nice woman patient.

The sedation is not a big deal at all.All it does it make you relaxed,,your awake,,,no pain, your asked to look at 3 dots,,,(third dot is in a small square) you lye perfectly still,, you see no work being done,,,as/because your eye is focusing on the three small dots only,,, Then your Opthamologist will say,,your done(about 15 min,,) then you go through post opp afterwards. Your given an eye patch,,,which you keep on all day,,,then 1 full week of eye patch for sleeping. For 4 wks there will be a series of drops(2 or 3 to be exact,,,) that you apply every day(4,,,3,,2,,1,,) then you will have your second eye done.

This is nothing more than slick advertising. Also, do research, there is a trade off when it comes to the very expensive 'multi-focal' lens. And, if there is a problem YES THEY CAN remove the implant and put in a different implant.

  • @urbanimage

this is true. Some people just can't adapt to multifocals and get a disco show going on in the back of their heads with streaks and halos.Yes it theoretically gives you a much larger range of vision, but fact is about 1 in 6 patients get "noticeable" light effects post surgery, about 1 in 300 will get unbearably so...that when they usually change the dominant eye lens to monofocal and it mostly goes away. the monofocals have the least side effects, generally only 1 in 100 get's halo's and 1 in 1000 non tolerant.,but the drawback is less range of vision. the EDOF type are somewhere in between.Lots of people seem to take this option as a good comprimise ie vivity or eyehance with mini-monovision to extend the range. ****note, vivity has a much longer theoretical range, plano for doninant and -0.5D other eye s recommended on these if you go eyehance then go for -0.5 D myopic i the dominant eye,and adjust the next down by 1D plus or minus a little bit. There's also a difference between the refractive and diffractive optics, with the latter being more susceptible to light shows.

I work for many doctors and each has their own opinion about which lens is better. But since it is a lifetime decision that can’t be changed after the surgery, I suggest that you go to another doctor for a second opinion. Most insurances will pay for that. sometimes happens. the IOL calculator is only really quite a broad brush, and will get in the right sort of area for lens size. There's still a lot of stuff dependent on surgical error, something the IOL/OCT biometrics didn't pick up,lens "needs" did you set full on distance or reading or somewhere in between?,lens type...was it the right one for your day to day needs? ....the instruments themselves have tolerances.....you kinda hope to have everything go perfect and everything nailed, but in truth the reality is it's going to be a "close enough" type procedure, with a small likelihood of needing a further adjustment to dial everything in a few months later when its all settled. I would say at 5 months you need to be speaking to your doc/optometrist about getting residual error sorted out

I think 1in 10 have complications which is very high and very scary. I read about the postulsr capsule fogging up and needing further laser treatment. But you only ever get one chance to have the new plastic lens. Therefore it has to be measured correctly by the Dr and this can be wrong too. But then you sign a disclaimer so you can't sue any one for sight loss. You never hear about what goes on subsequently with the successful 90% that go on to develop other eye problems like detached retina macula degeneration and i don even know what. Oh and diabetic retinopathy. Scary indeed but good at same time if the outcome successful.

You are mistaken. Its very affordable. $750 out of my pocket with my cruddy ACA health insurance. Hardly a rich man's cure!

I'm FAR from rich!!! But, I have been responsible and have worked for everything I have. One thing I have is medical insurance through my employer. Something EVERYONE has the choice to have. It all depends on the person.
