Just found this video Brian, i bought it months ago because i really like the canteen cup cooking system. i also have the issued one which is still in a very good condition (built in 1966 with folding handle) Thanks for sharing with us Marine !!! Greetings Harry

Harry Mcleod Thanks Harry but I do not have the honor of being a Marine. I did get the boonie at Parris Island when I attended my nephews graduation (which was very impressive humbling).

Brian at 74 years old I don't think I'll ever catch up on all the video's of the few people I've decided to follow they all must make since like you .

Amazing bit of kit and a good review, thanks Brian. I had a wire coat hanger that i abused for the bottle and another bit for the cup (had to drill 2 small holes at top of cup). Have seen people grill steak and chicken on the stove, and the bag can be made stronger by inserting an old trouser leg cut off and some man-stitching, lol. I don't mind Dave getting some cash for this, it's a bit of kit that will last and the man uses it himself. As for people complaining about qualitiy, i can only think it has been abused, as mine has lasted a year and still all slides into each other, still doesn't leak etc. It may sound expensive, but if you only have to buy one-it's a bargin @;-) Thanks Brian.

A great piece of kit. Drill a couple of small holes in the lid, or else it will explode when boiling water.

I'm kicking my self for buying the "Heavy Cover" lid. It was expensive and heavy. I like the lid you got. I may buy one and bend the lip of it a little and/or grind the lip of the cup down a bit for a better fit. Good video review

Yeah, I like the design of the Heavy Cover lid better, but for 6 bucks I'll stick with the one I have. I like you idea to do some minor modification but I am going to wait and see if the fit changes as it gets "broke in" (a Georgia term). Thanks for the comment. By the way, I checked out your channel. The VW van is too cool. When I was a kid one of my Scoutmasters had one. We never got to camp in it but I spent a lot of miles in it driving to different campsites. One day I want one. Bryan

will the pathfinder canteen set fit the USGI MOLLE II canteen carrier?? I'm pretty sure it won't fit the ALICE style canteen carrier.

According to a video I watched last night from Dave Canterberry & the Canteen Shop, it will fit the standard USGI MOLLE canteen carrier. Thanks..!!

It fits Tight in the USGI canteen\ multi purpose pouch, the canteen cup handle retaining slide holder catch, its a two hands operation to get out.

So were did you get the lid from?

I love the set but that handle doesn’t lock in place, it easily comes out of the mechanisms that hold it when you lift it from the stove, twice I’ve spilled hot water lifting it; and at times it just falls loose while on the stove. Any hacks or instruction to keep it secure would be appreciated, I love everything else about this kit.

I purchased my Canteen Cookset from canteenshop.com. I paid extra for an upgraded pouch. I am generally pleased with the kit, but for the price, there should NOT be a snagging problem removing the kit from the pouch. I have heard that other customers have the same problem. As for the pathfinderstore.com, I had a serious problem with their large capacity alcohol stove. I went through 3 of them ( 2 were free replacements), but all 3 were junk. I paid a good price for the first stove, but after all 3 failed, I noticed made in China stickers on the bottom of all 3 stoves? Sorry, but I will not purchase from Dave again.

+Paul Gibson I have bought a few things from them and everything has been good quality. I think his Stainless kits do come from China also. I have the water bottle cook set also and the bag that came with it was just too small so I would up taking the lining out but I eventually bought a larger bag.

What? I bought the boonie at Parris Island ay my nephew's graduation. I've asked several Marines if they minded me wearing it and they ALL said they had no issues with it. But I have stopped wearing it because I don't want to give anyone the impression that I am a Marine because I did not earn that distinction. As for weather, it doesn't bother me but my camera gear is another story ;-) Thanks for watching this old video.

A boonie is a style of hat. Lots of people wear them. They're not just for Marines, what do you think people do with military surplus they buy?
