    When I was on active duty we didn't use MOLLE gear, we had ALICE, anyway those Military MOLLE Canteen pouches are marked on its back side, facing the wearers body, MOLLE II 1QT Canteen / General Purpose. From what I found out is that the pouch was designed to not just hold a Canteen and Cup but also anything else the Soldier wanted to use it for, including putting rifle magazines into it, without the canteen and cup of course. You said to leave a comment. Nice kit. Enjoy.

    The nesting Cup with the folding under handle is what we called a fire bucket in army 40 years ago in south Africa. I still have mine and its been in more fires than i care to remember. We used to make a small fire and put ten of them all around to boil water for a cup of tea and to hydrate our rat pack food That's the most valuable item you can have for bush hiking food prep Plus good water bottles

    From South Africa I've been on the hunt for one since 1974 during the bush war, a lootie had one from the firebucket / waterbottle, and all 3 parts fitted in the waterbottle pouch. Eventually I made one, using a slightly different design. Late last year (2023) on F/book found a brand new pathfinder from somebody lucky enough to be immigrating. I must have 20 original SANDF firebuckets, waiting for me to replicate a SANDF version

    Even though this video is over 4 years old those butterfly handles get hot if you stick that cup in the fire the grab handle of which that one has doesn't get hot cuz you can set the cup it's almost in the fire and have that hanging away from the fire maybe over a stone or something to hold you know steady I like those myself

    I have had this setup for the last year and a half. I love the wide mouth canteen. It allows you to put ice in the canteen, if desired, or fill it from any number of spigots. I didn't get all the extras you got, but I have got a Sawyer mini with the back flush syringe in the bag along with the bladder and straw. I also carry a Strikeforce ferro rod with fire starting tendering the end, a small knife sharpener, and some people may may call it redundant, but I also carry an Esbit stove with heat tabs in the front pocket. I wish I had gotten the military type carrier with the canteen along with the fish mouth spreader with mine. I might get those later. But it's a really great set. I lived with the older canteen set in the infantry before they included the stove and lid, and loved using it with my older Esbit stove with heat tabs. Of course I had to buy one to turn in when I retired. Couldn't get the old one clean enough. lol

    Great kits. An IFAK in a condor gadget pouch on one side and a 5x7 pouch on the other gives more room for food packets. I used something similar on a riggers belt for SAR dog work. Plus you can hookup condor mag pouches for a.multi tool and SAK treker knife, or wear on the belt.

    My issues with the thing are the threads on the bottle, I really have to made sure the bottle closes properly, have had it leak a few times, and that the lid on the kidney shaped canteen cup can fall inside while cooking, which doesn't happen with a round pot. Otherwise I really like the set and it is my main one at the moment.

    thumbed it up - thx! i have every single piece of gear that you have in this video.... all of it. i've had it a couple of years and i go out and cook out real often (every week). you know what i use???.... none of that fancy stuff that i paid a lot for.... i use a standard army canteen (plastic), standard butterfly handled SS army canteen cup & i do use the lid from the pathfinder store. only thing from pathfinder i use is the lid. i sold the water bottle because i think a nalgene SS water bottle is better (better quality). the big canteen cup is ok and i like it being bigger, but it's thin. the water bottle stove and the canteen stove are thin too. i do have another heavy duty canteen stove from the canteen shop that's thicker and better. that water bottle 25oz. cup........ it has holes bored in the sides of it (for the fish mouth spreader) and i hate the holes in the sides of the cup. i hate the lid that goes on the pathfinder 25oz. water bottle cup ....... snaps-on too tight (hard to get off). that SS pathfinder alcohol stove i like - it works fine for me. in short though for me......... i wish i hadn't bought all of that pathfinder stuff. it's all just a copy of the standard US. army canteen cook system, anyway. to me for me....... it was something new to play with, but really not worth the money. it sits there not being used. i may put it all on ebay and try to get some of my money back for it. so, for me this stuff didn't work out that great, but for others i hope it does. thanks for video.

    I have the same set, but elected not to get the stainless canteen, instead I use the nalgene canteen like the one you have. I've seen lots of reviews of the stainless canteen, and people talk about the ability to use it to heat water over a fire, but I'm wondering if you use it this way how do you deal with the soot? I have lots of blackened sooty pots, and I don't really mind it, because you can just store them in a stuff sack, but if the canteen gets soot on the outside, it gets stored in the inside of the cup, so don't you end up getting the inside of the canteen cup full of soot?

  • @MrPawPaw

    @MrPawPaw

    6 жыл бұрын

    Derrick P people have some idea that stainless wont rust. It can if not cared for properly. Never use bleach or chlorinated products on stainless. Also never use a metal brush. Use a plastic type brush. He mentioned the weld joint could be an area of bacteria. If your concerned I would first rinse some alcohal or just fill it with boiling water. Also the big spout would allow to you wipe it dry inside. Yes with a clean cloth and not necessary for a few days in field use. Never pack it away until its thouroughly dry inside. Id almost bet those who experienced rust issues thought to first disenfect it with bleach. But it would of been nicer not to have a weld seam at all.

    I think those shallow-rolled round-shouldered threads *would* be a deal breaker for me. Unless you remember to pay very close attention to what you are doing (which, let's face it, is frequently impossible) it's FAR too easy to cross-thread and damage the lid and/or neck.
