0:44: 🧘‍♂ Learn to become stoic in the modern world and find lasting peace of mind. 3:56: 🧠 Stoicism teaches that relying on external things for happiness leaves us at the mercy of a turbulent universe outside our control. 5:44: 📚 Practicing voluntary discomfort and adopting a stoic mindset can help change our attitude towards purchases and pleasures. 8:25: 🧠 The importance of not hating or being angry at others, and focusing on self-improvement and education instead. 11:26: 🤔 The ongoing culture war is characterized by anger and insults, with genuine attempts at persuasion taking a back seat. I was unknowingly living a stoic life, discovering it’s values on my own in 2019. I was 18, just graduated, and more than anything I wanted to travel the country. So I saved my money, bought a minivan, threw a mattress in it, and had the adventure of a lifetime for 18 months. I went to every state you can drive to (except Hawaii and Alaska). I was basically homeless, but I was the happiest I’ve been in my whole life. Everyday was new, everyday was different. Just finding somewhere to take a shit required planning and effort. Nothing was simple, everything was work, but everything felt fulfilling. Living with the absolute bare minimum and being happy with such taught me how deluded we all are from birth to want to acquire things over experiences. I began to focus on this concept everyday and would practice ways to value my life not for its rewards, but for what I gained through doing things that are not easy. I built up my philosophy of life around this. Like most 19 yr olds, I was unaware of any of the great philosophers at that point in my life. Hadn’t read or heard any of their ideas. But about a year after I had completed by journey, I discovered Meditations and there were points where it felt like I was reading my own diary. My whole point with this is, it is rather unfortunate the conditions alot of people are born into. With external pressures never really giving them the freedom to have these freeing thoughts. It wasn’t until I was completely removed from society, only interacting with others when I’d stop to get gas or go into town for supplies, that I could understand the errors I’d made in my thinking and life. And seeing as how people separated by oceans and millennia can come to these same conclusions given the right conditions, I feel that stoicism is mostly a rational concept. It is being more attached to the idea of why things are rather than how they are.

Honestly that’s my dream, so much stuff (I’m guessing you live in the USA) in our beautiful country to see. I’m not even old enough to drive yet, but that’s my dream to be honest, just driving around the country, seeing all the national parks and stuff, seeing the different geography, etc. hope you enjoyed it and I’ll probably never see you again so hope you have a great life!

@@blueliam you have a bright future dude. Having those big dreams and enjoying this kind of content at a young age is awesome. It was the best decision I ever made. It was 5 years ago and feels like yesterday. I’ve since joined “the real world” and have a corporate job where the freedom and individuality I could take advantage of everyday is near non existent - but the memories I gained from the experience stick with me everyday and gives me hope for the future. I sincerely hope you get the chance to do it yourself and that your dreams are supported by your loved ones. (Side note) you still have so much time to save the money you’ll need to make doing this possible. My biggest piece of advice is to find a way to generate passive income that can be made no matter where you are. That’s one thing I wish I’d done so that I could of continued traveling indefinitely

The only time I have been able to achieve a stoic mindset is when I remind myself of this and I realize not only am I not alone, but we have the ability to make life a little better for everyone by simply by being a bit kinder to one another and to ourselves. I hope you find the strength to face whatever you are going through no matter how trivial it may seem to others.

If you put in as much effort as you could, and you still lost the war,**THEN** YOU SHOULDN'T WALLOW THAT YOU LOST THE WAR FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS. Should you remain sulking, and angry everyday for the rest of your life? Stoicism says NO, you shouldn't. If you've done all you could, and it didn't go your way, then from there on you try to go about your life and the best you can to decrease the physical and mental suffering.

A few notes of constructive criticism: 1:25 that's Epictetus in the picture, not Zeno. The description Zeno uses for the dog being dragged by the horse is for destiny and fate, not so much the dichotomy of control. in this example there would be a slight difference but it's mostly that you're being led toward a certain end, you can accept that or fight it. Overall, lovely video and especially a banger of a thumbnail !

This world any way people think shock me sad part is we forgot one and only GOD of us all and all what been told and remind time after time through prophets. In Quran ALLAH Rabul Allamin told us whoever forget HIM HE make them forget themselves and they will end up in hell. It's to true that nothing is in our control and this is also explain in Quran and in it more clear explanation how much we are bound to events in our life's but how we react is make a difference, unfortunately in today's world we have universities but we just do business and teach things to make more money rather then teach humanity peace or compassion and if we teach humanity we just teach use condom before fuking each other otherwise you will need more money to murder the baby or respect we teach do respect of mentally sick people who say them normal and have power and money, any way lot we teach to change the world and looks like a time to harvest what we had seeded. My message to if any one lesson try to read Quran It is a light which show them a way who believe. I see in my life how one and only GOD of us all bring me out of darkness and show me the light AlhamdULLAH I m thankful to God for everything

I was going to write somewhere in my digital life "stoic penis." But, after learning about Stoicism, maybe it doesn't make sense.

Harder to do when youre autistic (high functioning too) but after a while you get better at managing your symptoms by simply adopting the stoic mindset. You get more used to it the more you try. A case of reinforce until it sticks i suppose.

You're wrong on the culture war aspect. This culture war started when both sides disagreed and one side tried to talk with the idea that the others might be misled, wrong, or just have a difference of opinions. That side then got attacked, lied about, smeared, threatened, kicked out of jobs by mobs going after their employer, and more. After several years of trying to talk and being increasingly harassed and lied about until they gave up on it and started returning the favor albeit not quite as unfairly and unjustly (not mobbing people in their job if they actually do good work in it).

Stoicism is simply realizing that you aren't special among others, yet being special to those around you as they are to you.

It's fascinating how an ancient philosophy like Stoicism can still be so relevant today. It shows us that, even though times change, human challenges remain the same.

Remember this, people do not quit doing something because they want to quit. They only quit once their mind is ready. If there's a battle going on in your mind, then that battle is stripping your soul of precious energy and future progress. Keep your chin up. Falling down as part of nature.

Share your virtuous stoicism with this person by spiking your lunch with some laxative... You can then find them easily as they'll be the person in the stall all day... You can lecture them all about stoicism through the gap

There’s a part of me that’s always longing for vengeance, because chances are, that if somebody wrongs me that they will do it again, if there is no consequence to their action. I can’t just let them disrespect me. I know that is not very stoic, but I just need to know if there is a way to make them understand

Stoicism, according to this video, sounds a lot like the gospel that Jesus taught when he was on earth. When you think about all of the people as a child of God, you are less likely to want to do harm or cause fights. Some things are just out of your control. Deal with it. But what you can control is how you view the world.
