Path of Exile 2: "Do I Just WAIT For It?"

Ойындар

Many ARPG players are asking themselves and others: "Do I wait for PoE2 to release, or should I play PoE1 before Path of Exile 2's early access?" Listing out 4 pros and 4 cons to playing the treasured predecessor to PoE2, it's time to answer this oft-asked question in full, in my usual rambling manner. I am a bit biased, as I love this action RPG unlike any other game currently released...and I let that seep into a few of the answers.
This is fully my opinion, with truths reinforcing it. Playing Path of Exile 1 before Path of Exile 2 releases is a good idea, trust me.
As always, I'm hyped. GGG is cooking up some amazing gaming goodness for us to play in late 2024 when PoE 2 goes into early access.

it's not really that simple, most people wouldn't mind playing multibutton builds, but its gets real tiring (including physically, your hand starts to hurt) if you have to rapidly press half a dozen buttons for hours on end. this genre is all about endless grind, so put 2 and 2 together. if you've played button heavy builds extensively you'd know that what's fun and engaging at the start becomes painful and bothersome later on. it should probably be better with wasd now, with no constant strain on your left finger to move and two full-fledged buttons on your mouse for skills and generally better feedback of the game, but I'm still skeptical about this, let's just hope for the best.

I went with poison arrow toxic ballistic build and the other was a guardian where you summon a light giant and he burns everything down. It was fun but without a challenge I lost interest. For your information : Fireball is a spell, and spells are not cast from weapons. Attacks on the other end are launched from your weapon. There might be an "explosive projectile" attack that will be usable with the machine gun crossbow. Or there might be a gem that cast a spell if you do a critical strike with an attack. But as far as i know, the distinction between spell and attacks is still the same in poe2.

I honestly would tell new people to wait for Path of Exile 2. The change between the two games will be jarring for many players, and this could be a negative detriment to the newest players who would feel like they learned dead mechanics. However PoE 1 is an incredibly fast paced game currently and that could attract a specific crowd. While PoE 2 is not currently shown to be close to the ZOOM of PoE 1. So yes the identity of Path of Exile exist in the sequel, however the gameplay is incredibly different. Depending on the player they may want to play one over the other which is why both will have development updates post PoE2 launch.

I agree with your first point but poe1 is fast and zoomy for veterans. For new players, the gameplay is actually slow, dull and plain boring. Animations suck, melee feels terrible to play and the game feels extremely dated. Poe2 looks slow but in a good way. It looks slow in the same way d4 looks slower too because skills actually interact with eachother and you can combo them instead of spamming 1 button. Its highly unliekly a new player would get to the zoom zoom part of poe1 until they put in a lot of hours.

  • @Fighterfan69

I think that' what a lot of POE vets are worrying about. I've seen many already state that it's too focused on Combos. Those are the players that want the best clearing builds by pressing one button. Honestly, That's Boring. I think ti was stated that POE2's focus was on skill combos and slightly slower gameplay for more active gameplay. I've also read that Jonathan expected 1- button builds but that will allure to those that like that kind of play style.

@@Alekov_ Thats kinda my point. As soon as a veteran youtuber comes up with a build, maybe even a leveling guide so that the new guys actually make it to end-game - then that build is out there and the power creep begins. But yeah its all speculation on my part. But you're 100% right on one thing : The animations in POE2 as of now will definitely limit the "time-to-kill" unless there is a way to speed up attack-animations. I personally hope that the "2 Button Playstyle" doesnt end up feeling AS slow as it is in D4. That was the biggest turn-off for me. Having to use one attack ( to generate mana etc in D4) in order to be able to use your damaging skill. But i trust in GGG and they will hit yet another homerun with POE 2

Speaking as a decade long PoE1 player, I do generally suggest people try it out if they're interested in PoE2. Play the standard league so you don't feel time pressure to complete the league mechanics on your very first character. Take your time and enjoy the rich lore and environmental storytelling. Take your time to come to grips with the way the skill tree is organized (it's not as complex as it seems at first once you learn the overall logical structure of it) and other basic concepts. Don't forget that they're going to be very different games, even though they're of the same lineage. And be prepared to discover why me and many others have played this game for so very many years. >^.^

Just want to add that on Con #3 in regards to endgame; I would say that most the people in the played for "a decade" don't really do this. I remember when farming the evil Vacuum cleaner in Act 2 was "end game". I know that PoE 2 will have 100X the end game PoE had when it was first available to play via closed/open beta. Also there really wasn't any "hype" attached to PoE 1; at least not that I can remember. People just bailed on D3 to play PoE after Krip made some videos about it, as it was closer to D2 than D3, which is what the ARPG community actually wanted. I really don't get where people are saying PoE 2 will be for casual players, or less complex. People saying that must be "new" to GGG's vision. As for actually comparing the games. I have a feeling -- at least for me -- it will be like when I played Nioh 2, after a 1000 hours in Nioh 1. My hope is that I will realize that PoE 2, as with Nioh 2, it will be an objectively better game in every regard. That's what I'm hoping for at least. I know not everyone will get that reference, but I think it's the most apt one I can give.

Yes D2 rocked and I enjoyed not by getting my character level 99. It's the variety of builds I can focus on. Necro - Minion, Necro - Bone, Necro - Poison, Necro - Curse/Minion, Necro -Bone/Minion, Necro - Bone/Curse, Necro, Bone/Poison, Necro - Poison/Minion, Necro Bone/Poison, and I can list others like Druid - Pet, Druid - Caster, Druid - Bear etc. So much variety that I didn't see in D4. D3 had an illusion of build variety through its rune skills but it wasn't enough. In many ways, POE's Gems is like that. Just have to get past the getting the right color links for minions to have Fire, and Poison damage since those need STR/DEX if you have it. I digress. I don't fully understand POE but I love the build variety even if I don't do Endgame which has its own difficult in understanding.

I'd say PoE 1 is not worth playing anymore because it has become too bloated and "no life" long time ago. People always talk about the passive skill tree being the obstacle but it's not. It's the insane farm for currency and gear you need to do in order to really have a powerful character. By "no life" i mean you have to dedicate all your free time to the endless grinding or your character won't be powerful enough for late end game content.

to be fair, after 10y of playing poe1, i just want poe2, every time a new league get released, i'm less and less exited to play it and more and more exited to play poe2, i'm at a point that i crave poe2 and i want that feeling of a new game and i don't want to start play poe2 while i'm burned out from poe1, pretty much, i'm like the couples that take a pause from sex to make it better once married, with the difference that my taste in games is better than my taste in women

Grrr, I absolutely LOVE Path of Exile 1 and at the same time I absolutely HATE Path of Exile 1. Path of Exile 1 is an Awesome, Fun to Play Game that also pisses me off to the point of quitting multiple times. I really hope Path of Exile 2 doesn't do this to me. That's all I have to say about it. Thank you

Don't play POE1. Heck, don't play POE2. If you get past act1 you'll never leave. You'll be praising the toucan every time you wake up.

I rly want to change diablo4 for poe2, fking blizzard company is disgusting. If poe2 add some interesting endgame, arenas pvp, battlegrounds pvp, raids, idk.. tower defense? Microgame like lol (5-10min battlegrounds), or even guilds pvp like RO, is the wish, and never play another game 😂😂
