This problem (in a bit different packaging) has been around for half a decade at least. Quite a few props can controllably rip off their wing tips by overspeeding (russian Yaks are most infamous for this) and then fly around "dead' and still have all their speed, climb rate and 90% of maneuverability (sustained maneuverability is fine, the plane is just wobbly when aiming). Here's another insidious part of this problem ... you are completely immune to airfield AA or bomber gunners, both don't target "dead" planes. Reported many times, Gaijin refuses to do anything about it (they are too lazy to fix the technical part and also they love the fact that no XP is awarded for killing you because it slows down techtree progression). So don't hold your breath for Harrier fix happening any time soon.

I think I know why this works actually, I have noticed since some recentish patch that I cannot fire rockets or drop bombs within 20 m or so of the ground, and when I try it says, "Cannot fire rockets when on the ground," it has denied me a few cas kills. I think gaijin accidentally or intentionally raised the height of the "ground" so for the Harrier, you are hitting this invisible ground with no gear deployed, so you "crash."

Gotta say I can't say I expected Zombie Harriers to be a thing Man Hot Tracks just has an absolute crapload of bugs huh

Most of the time when I see a dead plane that’s flying a bit too well for my liking, I’ll missile it or shoot it out of the air to be safe. I’m tired of being in a 1v3 situation with the third plane being a formerly dead aircraft that landed and repaired

However, it depends if the plane would actually be able to survive with the damage it has taken. If it can, I see this as a neat feature; the pilot isn't dead after all. How a broken wing is repaired in 30-40 secs is another thing.

@@ryanp5790 that's why I was saying that it depends. Not having a whole wing should be completely lethal, especially for flying engines, but with only the tip of the wing off some planes could, and have landed in the past. let's take the meteor for example: if it breaks one wing tip (from the engine onwards, the engine being intact), the center of mass/center of lift doesn't shift a lot because of how big the plane and how wide the wings are, and it can be compensated for. Furthermore, there is enough surface area left to produce lift (low wing loading). If the part where the engine is found is missing, it is a dead plane. If both tips are missing, I don't think I can say. In game there is still lift, which I guess might work because of the huge elevator and surface area (?), but it controls better than it should. For me, f86s enter a flat spin when I shoot their wings, but the f84 is usually the main contender for complete and utter bullshit. More than half of its wing gets cut off, where some of its fuel is too, and it still flies. Always.

Fun fact: The AV-8A with 9 minutes of fuel and around 650 of IAS can climb about 9-10km at a 30~ degree angle before stalling out (this is my experience in a test flight at least)

Spotting range in jets is totally broken. I get that it makes logical sense that a pilot can only see so far, but in a BR where people can close an 8-10km gap in seconds, the range and ease of spotting needs to go up.

The thing with the fact that when you crit someone and it crashes and doesn't give the kill is also that the one who gets killed then has to wait for the crew lock, so it's really bad for both players

got crew locked the other day, AAA got my tail, limped back to base and botched the no-tail landing. it didn't give the AI the kill so it just looked like I crashed and that crew locked me 😂😂

The AV8 is a fun plane to play. The biggest problem I have with this plane is that the weapon selection system is a redundant feature that I could do without. I have my all my weapons bound to specific keys so if I want to use a weapon, I simply press the key for that weapon. There is no reason to force pilots to select what weapon they want to use twice each time they switch weapons. It doesn't make sense. What's the point of having the option to key bind weapons if the key binds don't work unless you select the weapon from a menu first?

What does it mean by "dead" AV8a? I did see a harrier in 2 of 3 recent realistic battles...

What makes this even worse is the fact AAA won’t target you. In sim this would be completely broken; airfield campers would have a field day.

I saw this happen once and when i saw a "dead harrier" coming for me i was like "what?!" But i guess i'll see more of this now that you made a video about it, should've just made a bug report and kept this quiet now every harrier player that sees this will abuse this. Also about harriers being 9.7 i don't think that's seriously necessary, i don't play harriers but those aim9 aren't hard to dodge, its just good to kill tunneling/distracted enemies from afar, but that's pretty much it. Can't blame the plane for how oblivious the enemy is.

Plenty of people already do this and continue to die to them I did report it to gaijin and it seems they don't care so I decided to take this road instead The 9Gs aren't hard to dodge if you see them coming but you can really easily jump people at the start with this especially from alt. But I agree with what you say, just want to inform people as most people just fight it, not fly it

I do play it and I believe it's good at 9.3 tbh. Aams are inconsistent and the gun require alot of lead. The harrier doesn't like 1v1s or to pull at all.

Would you recommend this plane to grind out Rank V and VI or should I put a talisman on my F11?

I think it's an extremely boring plane to fly. f11 is probably better, but then you don't get as many silver lions

That change was for Air EC, where they added EC7. Heli EC is still Ka spam hell, nothing changed about it.

Well what you describe about the Harrier flight model is what GR1 pilots at 10.0 face now .. 9.3 was too low, 10 is too high, 9.7 was okay.

I always focus on Harriers in my G91 R/4 ( I got both the German and Italian tree ones). They are still my only gun kills among plenty of missile kills. This is started as something fueled by pure hatred because they are overpowered in many aspects. But now I just figured out so many people use them on a no-brainer mode and it allows me to kill them regardless of the G91 is one of the weakest jets in War Thunder ever but a great turn fighter. But If they stay unreal high and just boom and zoom all day long and send unlimited G tolerance missiles then they are impossible to deal with. Maybe once I reach the Italian Starfighter. ( I am a tank main and always super far behind with planes. I have 5 tank trees absolute full and only one plane tree being close to full by missing only two jets.) Then I can go for those suckers on all altitudes and I guarantee I will hyper-focus the shit out of them till they all give up using it!

Yak-38 is like the AV-8A but better performance It turns better and retains energy like air resistance doesn't exist. It has no guns built into it so you can use 2x R60 or Gunpods. If Yak-38 can be at 9.3 So should the AV-8A. R60 missiles are better than SRAAMS in every way. 30g pull, basically infinite range (russia) and tracks better than SRAAMS.

@@kajmak64bit76 Your statement is incorrect. Even on the stat cards it says that R60 is better. R60: 30g pull, 2,5 Mach top speed, 8 km range. SRAAM: 20g pull, 2.4 Mach top speed, 2 km range. The only thing SRAAMs have over R60 is the big lock reticle so you can really lead the missile. Which you must do if you want them to connect. I would take 2x r60 over 4x SRAAMS any day because they are much better and since SRAAMS are easily countered with flares and r60 are immune to flares.

I have been playing my Javelin to finish spading it. NGL the permanent uptiers against full teams of A7d (and their airspawn, missiles, etc) and AV8 while having teams capped at 9.0br planes hasn't been great :')

It's a similar deal at 9.0-10.0 matches with a US/Japan team with one T-2 vs a couple of MiG-19s/Q-5s/Su-7s and at least one F-104G. (then again, the A-7Ds still wreck stuff even in full uptiers against 10.7s)

That's how American 7.7 feels in an up tier, half your team will be in F-89s and if you are in an F-80C or F-84G you will have to perform the work of an 8.7, because most F-89 players are crap.

Most are getting TK'd the moment they do it. 8.3-9.3 isn't that bad right now due to people doing what needs to be done when they see it happening on their team, in the last 30 matches over about 48hours I've come across it 3 times maybe 4 where they have gotten away with it but mostly see at the start of the match when an AV8, Harrier etc does it "dealt with"

I put the engine nozzle angle on my mouse scroll. 10% every notch. 10/10 would recommend

You can lock onto dead planes if they're still flying and engines are on. Any speed, any altitude. As I had multiple missiles launched at me while dead flying in a 104. I believe it's due to not having afterburners so IR missiles have to be launched closer.

@@DEFYN thats good, i also fought to teamkill everyone doing that, but the problem is gaijin that doesn't care about game problem. maybe in your video you shouldn't have shown the way for doing the trick and just explain the reason why you used that. I'm with you for the battle to gaijin attention also like your video they are a good reflection of the game

Tbh I think that this thing is too powerful. It not only has 16g missles and it also has insane acceleration and you can just play it braindead.
