Schmitt, Slaton, and White along with a great offensive line. They were a WV dream team.

@stickfigure9138 Geno Smith was a far better quarterback but Pat was a better athlete.

@@EdgarLeon-tq3uj Naa man Pat was better. QB is more than just throwing the ball. It's having the knowledge to read the defense. Knowing if you should throw or run. Pat could do both, and yes he was a better athlete also. 4 bowl wins, 2 BCS bowl wins. Sorry, but I gotta disagree with ya on this one

Tebow was never a star in the NFL. Great college career but was a bit of a bust in the NFL

I've been a West Virginia fan my whole life. They wouldn't have won a national championship that year, furthermore they will never play in another national championship let alone win one. West Virginia's only chance they've ever had was with Major Harris in 1988 against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. I was there, in the 8th grade then.

I kind of blame parcells for his failure in the NFL, Too many coaching dinosaurs back then that demanded a QB fit into a certain box size and stylewise.. Guy was never given the chance to succeed with a young coach who could cater to his strengths.. Hell there wasn't a QB under 6'2 in the NFL in the 90's they had to be prototype size and not a running QB the lone exception was doug flutie , but Drew Brees, MIke Vick changed that thinking followed by Russell Wilson.. Now Most QB's are 6'3 and under and can run the ball. Pat White would have made it in today's NFL

He would need a coach to adapt to him like the ravens did for Lamar jackson.

The '05 Pitt game at 3:37 was the coldest game I've ever been to. Just absolutely frigid. 29:21 sums up how elusive he was. #5 will be retired someday.

From 05-07, there was not a more entertaining team to watch then West Virginia, mostly because of Patrick White and Steven Slaton.
