In all honesty, I don´t really remember Pat. He was too young, and used more in rotation. One of the many interchangeable Americans Olympiacos used to bring in. He was way too young back then. And of course we couldn´t predict the career he would go on to have.

I'm an American living now in Greece. The fans here are hard core. They are organized. They have clubs where they meet and make up chants and get ready for the games. It's so intense your body goes literally numb. Pippen went to see the Euroleague finals a few days ago and was amazed from the atmosphere the fans created. He said I wish we had this in the NBA!1

Not everyone of us is hardcore, you know. We just happen to know the chants. We repeat them two or three times until we stop singing. So by the end of the song you know the lyrics and the tune. And if you don't, you can look them up online. It's literally what you said. I've felt numb sometimes, getting headaches from the...herbs in the air, i've felt some echoes in my ear. Imagine going to a loud concert and going to a basketball game, all at once. The closest feeling I can give you.

While Bryant played with many great players during his Lakers days he didn’t hesitate giving a name when asked if there was one player he wished he could have had on his team during his playing days. “Well there's a player from back in the day that I played against who I wish I had on my team. His name is (Dimitris) Diamantidis from Greece,” Bryant stated. “I love and wish I had him. His length and his size, and what he could do defensively, I would have loved to have another player on the wing who could harass little point guards,” Bryant explained.

Not necessarily. The guy above is mentioning something about the concept here(europe). Players that get introduced in European basket learn to play for the jersey. Fans are more passionate and there are derbies that feel like war. The whole mentality here on sports is different and while more money would make the game even more competitive it wouldnt result on losing the character of the sport in europe. If you want an example take a look at football or soccer as you call it . Crazy payrolls higher than NBA , same mentality as European basket . Europe isnt different due to lack of money but because people live with different values .@@da11king

Hey Pat. Half Greek half American here. Born in Minny. Regarding the Wolves let's say that I am more surprised with how difficult it's been for us to guard Doncic and Kyrie rather than with the fact we made it to the conference finals. Regarding the differences we must mention that in Europe there is no salary cap. Now in Greece we are lucky to have two teams that have won the Euro league 10 times in the last 30 years. And all that without ever coming close to the top budgets Spanish teams, or some years back Russian teams had. Now to get an idea when big players come from Europe there is an adjustment period because fouls are called very easy in the States. I remember Pekovic when he joined the Wolves in the first year he could not stay in the game for more than 5 minutes but when he got used to it he was able to be very effective. And if you get famous it's another story. Jokic enters the paint like a single lady chasing the bouquet in a wedding. And half of his famous screens are fouls. Guards when they come to Europe they also have to adjust. At the beginning they are called for travelling and carrying all the time because in Europe that is not acceptable. Athleticism alone will not do it. Couple of years back somebody had the bright idea to bring Wes Johnson here (you have to wonder about the scouting sometimes). Kid could jump out of the gym but his lack of B-ball IQ led him to be a flop. Now officiating is bad in both leagues but the NBA refs are atrocious. Especially the star treatment is annoying as hell. Which you don't get here or at least nowhere near that travesty.

Dante Exum was one of the better players in Euroleague. That is the difference in quality. Best European players are in US. I count Euroleague winners until 1995. After that quality is much lower, and its all about money. It's easy to see who had the talent, and who has the money. If your club has no Euroleague title prior to 1995. I don't count titles after. If it does, I count titles after 95 too. It's just me. I'm butthurt cause clubs from my country dominated based on talent, and now, they can't even get in cause they have no money.

I'm 52 from The Bronx and I played pro ball in Europe as a teenager for 2 yrs. I've been to practice in america and I've been to practice in Europe. Now here in America let's say a kid in high school is 6'3 and the tallest kid on the team. He is being taught to be a center. When he should be taught to be a player. In Europe and America the basketball drills are the same. The difference is that in Europe guards do the same drills as big men and big men do the same drills as guards. This doesn't happen in America. So skills are being developed in Europe meanwhile here in america we develop positions not so much players. Almost every European can dribble pass and shot because of practice drills no matter what their size is Almost every American cannot.

Jure Zdovc was your coach. He was a legendary Yugoslavian/Slovenian sharpshooter. He was Drazen Petrovic`s backup in national team. Always loved his hustle play. When Draz was resting there was not much of a drop off in production on court.

Hey Pat, just subscribed to your podcast so i can interview you! Man you were a dawg since day one. The moment you set foot as a young rook on a european court... i said this mofo is a fcking DAWG. When you didn't back down against Shammond Williams , then your status as a dawg was set in stone. And you are still a dawg. Love from Greece bro.

My good friend from Greece put me on to Euroleague / FIBA International Basketball back in the nineties . 🏀 Use to watch it on the Satellite Dish 📡 . Great Atmosphere and Passion in the Arenas. The European game / International style of ball is definitely a more Team game ...!
