I loved this nook from the moment my sister opened it as a birthday present. As our family was sitting around chatting afterward, I was surreptitiously searching Amazon for this nook. There were multiple sellers, all at different price points, and as I looked for the best deal, I fell deep into the rabbit hole of nooking. I’ve not yet attempted to climb out honestly. That day, I bought three, this being one of them. I waited until February looking for a time when my sister and I could do this project together. She saw the estimated time of assembly on the box was 4-6 hours, so she thought we’d have plenty of time to complete it in one 4 hour afternoon session. Back then, I was still new enough that I thought it could be possible, although I had my doubts. In the ones I’d completed since her birthday gift to me of European Cat Town, I had yet to finish one in the estimated time. Usually I was several hours beyond. We had a great afternoon, and it was fun crafting together. By the time 4 hours had passed, we’d barely made a dent in crafting the little pieces. I wouldn’t trade that day for the world, though. In fact, I’m trying to set up another crafting day with my sister to work on another nook we share.
The Pastoral Diary nook came with everything you needed to complete the nook. Screwdriver to attach the light kit, screws, glue, a frosted rod (a.k.a. An emery board), and tweezers. Every wood piece fit together beautifully, and the furniture created was stunning. There was even lace to attach as accents to communicate that country vibe. The hardest part for me was figuring out how to fold those blasted open books. It showed one way in the picture, but that didn’t make sense in real life. Not to mention the whole thing was a sticker, so if you made a mistake and stuck it where it wasn’t supposed to be, you were…. Stuck. Literally.
This was the first nook I did not complete in one day, and I found peace and freedom in that. I learned I could do a little bit, set it aside until I had time to play, I mean craft, again and pick up where I left off quite easily. As this nook came together and began to take shape, my principal kept coming to mind. She’s a huge literature buff who loves French, and there were times I could picture her relaxing in the space I was building. Well, a mini version of her anyway. I knew this nook belonged to her when it was done. Now, as I create and post this video, and review the photos and the footage, I remember the joy it brought me. I remember the sense of calm, of peace, and of fulfillment. I just hope my principal feels that same joy and peace as she embarks on her new adventure with her family. I’m already missing her.
