To be honest, this is better than most of the so called Christian bands of today. So many have sold out. Toby Mac, Lecrae, Andy Mineo, skillet... The list goes on and on. To think Black Sabbath is bringing people to Christ, blows my mind! Props to Sabbath! I've been a fan since I was 5 years old. I have major respect for these guys, who I believe are the inventors of metal! Rock on!

When I was a teen, I was overwhelmingly attracted to sabbaths riffs and sound in general. Their lyrics led me to the Judeo-Christian prophecies. Then, I had awakened to Christ Jesus, and I've been on a life mission ever since. The Lord used this band's lyrics to transform me into a Christian warrior. I'm forevermore greatful. GOD bless🕆

Lucifer is/was amongst the greatest of "musicians", so then we should be wise to discern and consider the heart and essence of each song/notes/ lyrics/ musical piece... Very easy to fall victim and no one is an exception.

My brother sang this song in church. The pastor loved it until he found out it was a Black Sabbath tune. He wouldn’t let my brother sing in the church again. Sabbath was never a satanic band.

Geezer (bass player and lyricist) was raised a strict Catholic. Furthermore he is of Irish descent and so his imagery is rather Gothic.

Sabbath, particularly Geezer are ultra-moralists. I liked that Rolling Stone once called them 'The Milton Of Rock And Roll'.

Most of their lyrics are like this. Thought provoking. Not satanic. Check out the song "Lord of This World" off of the same album. Ozzy is singing from the point of view of the devil but telling you the truth of your soul. Incredible music. One of my all time favorite bands. And their name was inspired by an old time horror movie. Not Satan.

Sure Ozzy is devout... until it comes to respect & money then all bets are off. Just ask Jake E Lee, Lee Kerslake & Bob Daisley. While Sharon is behind most of the despicable things they've done, Ozzy is not blind to what's been done and has knowingly sat by and watched it happen and in some cases helped to keep things from going public. They've kept one step ahead of the hound but that's about to end.... It's not going to be pretty either.

Flawed?!?! Not paying people what you said you'd pay them for years, having bass and drum tracks completely wiped and re-recorded by other musicians on remastered albums are more than just flaws. Cursing is a flaw. What he and Sharon have done is immoral, unethical and criminal and I believe we only know a small fraction of whats occurred. I see you talk about Jake's situation but you didn't say anything about Bob & Lee. Why is that?

Lol. Jake wrote the Bark at the Moon record and had to sign away his rights to it. Now Ozzy wrote all the songs and Jake got no credit. Sharon completely screwed him and she threatened to just get another guitarist so then Jake couldn't get fame or touring money. So he sucked it up and stayed. On Ultimate Sin he was able to maintain his credits. But the damage was done. Ozzy was a complete loon then and the business side of the Osbournes had really rubbed Jake the wrong way.

Sabbath is great. And just to clarify OZZY didmt.write a word.it was Geezer The bassist. Sabbath was pinned as Satanists.but in fact They were very upset at this The lyrics do ask theological questions and deal with the dark side but are always warning us of the dangers. If anything Sabbath is very pro Christian. They questioned it Yes But always leaned towards,God and the goodness Even their most recent somg God Is Dead? Is a question. Not am answer. And at the end The.author does not believe God is dead. Pastor. Thank you for listening to this great poetic music

My dad was a baptist minister and in my teens in the late 70’s I had my dad read the lyrics to this entire album. With the exception of sweet leaf which speaks of smoking marijuana and solitude my dad only had a few negative things to say. After forever he said the lyrics were wrong where Ozzy sings “ it was people like you that crucified Christ”. My dad said it should have been “ it was people like us that crucified Christ” because we are all sinners and Jesus died for all of us. Into the void my dad interpreted as it spoke of a planetary heaven when he believed heaven is in the spiritual realm

Richard Poynor I dont interpret it as a PLANETARY HEAVEN. Reason is it doesn't fit the rest of their theme of life after death and being accountable, which is prevalent and obvious throughout the rest of the albums lyrics... But that is pretty significant that your dad gave time to anylize it

The bass player Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics for the band and many of them are quite brilliant indeed. You guys will be surprised some more if you keep checking out more of their songs and lyrics I assure you. Another band of interest might be Tool, the lyrics to the songs "Lateralus", "Parabol/Parabola" and "Right in Two" are for example very interesting.

If you're surprised by the lyrical content of Sabbath's songs, then it sounds like you judged the music and the band prematurely. Many more metal bands than you'd think "reach across the aisle," so to speak. For instance, the oft-misunderstood "The Number of the Beast" by Iron Maiden is actually about stumbling upon a satanic ritual, being horrified by it, and crying out that it must be stopped, and the authorities must be informed. Unfortunately, simple-minded people stop at reading the title of the song, and misjudge it accordingly.

Sabbath fans always knew. This was an interesting song written by the esteemed, legendary, thrice great Terrence Michael Butler AKA 'Geezer', eloquent both with lyrical bass licks and poetic prose. He wrote the majority of lyrics in the OG era from their eponymous first album in 1970 to their 8th studio album 'Never Say Die' in 1978, after which Ozzy was fired and that era ended. During that time he wrote timeless lyrics that are amazingly prescient about man's quest for meaning both within & without, above & below, with occult and science-fiction themes, with the meanings usually pretty obvious, but some taking a bit of reflection to work out. His songs were wicked, heavy, witty and amusing. This element voiced through Ozzy's distinct melodic flair, Tony's recognizable riffs and the hands-down best rhythm section in all of rock & metal Sabbath was an elemental force. As a unit they were much more than the sum of parts. Bills drumming with this pounding beats, creative fills and jazz-influenced feel paired with Geezer do everything except playing your standard 8th notes or doubling the guitar, he played creative, greasy, funky & nasty basslines weaving in and through, up and around the guitar riff, kundalini basslines. And Sabbath had a deep groove. They created something distinct and attractive that has been kept alive by generations of musicians still gaining insight & inspiration from their music while these guys are all in their 70s now. They have always been amazing!! I've been aware pf the message of this song since about 1983 when I was 13. There is some context to it but basically Geezer came from a working class Irish Catholic family. Since their first album the band, the album and the song scared the crap out of people with the themes and imagery of the Hammer horror movies of the 60's. The name of the band came from one such movie from 1963. Once they were popular & touring they had to deal with all kindsa weirdos approaching them to be involved in witch covens, dark brotherhoods, and even Anton Le Vey saying things publicly about them along with occult & Satan stuff. By this third album after a couple years, Geezer was sick of this shit and wanted to explicitly layout his stance to reassure himself & his family. So it was intentional. And I'm sure sincere. However, espousing and praising a belief system isn't the same as being devout. Geezer seems like a good guy, a good Grandpa and I have no reason to question his morals, religious beliefs. He's the only one who could say whether this is accurate & true 40+ years later. I was a teenager in the 80's during the 'Satanic Panic' and some people I shared this song with were definitely surprised. But none of the hardcore, zealot christians I knew believed they were 'true' Christians'. I personally found it super ironic that the so-called 'good'guys' were in such a frenzy of judgement & fear that they wouldn't stop and think and judge based on sentiments expressed in this song, but were much like crazed conspiracy theorists always having a 'they know that we know that they know we know' type of mental gymnastic routine that allowed them to persist in fabricating wild narratives and maintain how 'evil' Black Sabbath was.

How can you listen to sabbath while keeping your head still..impossible for me not to headbang at least once

My art teacher did not make me complete the assignments that everyone else had to do. he let me spend the whole year working on large pastel paintings of castles floating in the sky on mountains that I use to draw. I am a professional artist now.

The first time I heard Sabbath was when I was ten years old. It was after Christmas of '73 when I got my first stereo record player.I listened to their album Paranoid and I was instantly hooked. I love Sabbath because of songs like After Forever. Their music is Metal, they are the originators of the genre, but has elements of Blues, Jazz, and Swing. Yes, Swing! Lol. They are simply one of the best Rock bands of all time, because of Geezer's song writing and Tony's ability to create endless Riffs.

So glad my parents raised me to appreciate good music. I had a black Sabbath cassette tape that my dad gave me and I wore that thing out. Then when he got a computer that could burn CDs he would sit down with me and my sisters and help us make our own. He's always had a wide selection to pick from

The whole "Satan worshipping" issue was a marketing ploy by their record company and then manager. In interviews, the members have said that if you believe in God, then you must believe there is a Devil. Sabbath just explored and wrote/ sang about both sides. The devil worship is a myth. However, the marketing strategy worked but came with a lot of baggage. Remember, the bible also contains some horrifying stories, passages and imagery. For all the Satanic accusations they faced, this is widely considered to be the first Christian Metal song ever recorded. Ozzy actually warned about staying away from the devil. Every time Satan comes up in an Ozzy song Ozzy is trying to deny Satan or get away from him!

Important Sabbath facts: Their name is not satanic. It came from a 1963 Horror film called Black Sabbath. They were struggling to find a new name and identity for the band, while practicing across from a movie theater. One band member comments about the line on the street and how people will pay good money to be scared. They decided to write music that sounded like a horror movie and it changed the direction of the band forever. Early on, Geezer Butler, the bassist lyricist and Ozzy were into reading occult books, which was a common fad in the late 60s. Ozzy gave Geezer a book, which Geezzer kept by his bed. One night, Geezzer had a terrible vision of the devil, which Ozzy docemented (yes, he wrote that one) in the song, Black Sabbath. When Geezer came out of his vision, the book was gone. This experience officially ended Geezer and Ozzy's flirtation with satanism and the occult. They NEVER returned to practicing occultism even though some of their songs explore subjects that include God and the devil. Ozzy has said that Sabbath was basically a typical peace, love, sex drugs and Rock n Roll hippies band. They were not Satanist. Close examination of their lyrics will confirm this. Tony Iommi's said their interest in the occult was limited to watching horror films. But fans thought the band was into the occult. Tony told a funny story of witches in black cloaks, sitting outside heir hotel room with candles, chanting. They had to step over them. So, they blew out the witches candles and sang Happy birthday to them, which pissed them off. Ha ha! Final fact: The song NIB does not mean Nativity In Black. This is a myth which Sabbath would later parody by allowing two Black Sabbath tribute albums to be produced featuring other artist playing Black Sabbath songs. Being big Beatles fans, I think Sabbath, much like the Beatles, enjoyed perpetuating myths about themselves. The song NIB is actually named after Geezzer Butler's beard, which was pointy and shaped like a fountain pen nib. The band nicknamed him Nibby. The lyrics of NIB are not about worshipping Satan. The song is a "What if" fantasy. It's based on the idea of Satan falling in love with a mortal human, like the Gods of Greek Mythology, when they fell in love with humans and created demi-gods like Heracles and Achilles. What if Satan fell in love? Could it change him? How would it change him? The song is basically a creative writing exercise. It's not about worshipping Satan. When seen from this prospective, we can see what a great creative thinker and lyricist that Butler was. His words could be very thought provoking at times. The man was certainly no slouch as a writer. So, bear all this in mind, when you analyze Sabbath's lyrics. Many of them are pro God, pro peace band love and occasionally pro-drugs but also sometimes very ant-drugs. They were sort of like, "Don't do this at home kiddies. We are professionals". Ha ha!

Hey it's the 75 year old grandma again, I believe there are different levels or stages of being a believer in Jesus Christ as your savior. I was raised Catholic and always believed in Jesus as my savior, so I believe I was saved from childhood, but I don't believe I was born again, until just before my 50th birthday when I said the sinners prayer with Billy Graham and had a baptisim of the Holy Spirit right there in my living room, until that time I struggled with addictions, and emotional problems, The difference is this, before I always believed in God, but thought of Him as someone out there in Heaven that I could not reach, but after the experience, I had at home that night, I woke up the next day a different person, God was no longer someone I could not reach, I could feel Him with me, He became so very real to me like never before, my life centered around Him. Since that time I have had many supernatural experiences, with God, As a worship dancer I have had angles dance with me, I have seen the Lord, and I have seen Him as the lion of Judah, To really know God is to experience Him. Keep up the good work you guys. I pray for you every day.

I agree with you and you hit the nail on the head about being born again. The way it is presented to become born again turns many people off. Myself included. I felt the same way you did, raised Catholic and always loved God. But there is a point in life when we believers have an experience, that is so profound and moving that we are filled with the spirit and with joy. You really cant explain it....It just happens, and you DO feel born again! Its between you and God. Not about evangelists preaching Born Again over and over. When it happens to you, you will know it. And Carla I had so many problems of my own, such anger, and needing to be right about everything. And when you have something really awful happen, maybe it is the sin of pride. And one needed to be humbled. Oh boy was I humbled. But I am now grateful, yes greatful because it was like God smacking me in the head and saying...be happy, I want you to be HAPPY. Not sad and full of anger and resentment. LET IT GO! Why are you getting stuck in stuff that is long past and forgotten? Thank you Carla, I am 58 and still learning.

I'm a believer and and I also listen to Black Sabbath. Been listening to them from they first came out. I always "Remember the Sabbath." Read Ozzy's book. And I NEVER cared what my youth pastor or church pastor or whoever had to say.

I remember my friends father saw the cover to Black Sabbath's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. He was yelling at us because he said it was satanic. When he finished his rant and asked us if we agreed with this satanic record I asked him to look at the back of the album cover. If you have never seen it, look it up.

To see your expression as a Pastor was more than thrilling to myself. Because I am save by the blood of Christ Jesus* and I have listened to a few of Sabbaths LP,s. I just happen to own this one and a couple others. You I must say, judged them before you even heard the song. I read your face. As well as the other mans face. finally!!!!!!!! been watching reaction vids of songs and artists i grew up with. i enjoy the fact that folks can still appreciate the stuff i liked such a long time ago. kinda refreshing. anywho, as i have been "liking" vids, i started to wonder if my likes really mattered? i mean, it's one thing to like a video with 99 likes and give them 100. same with 900 and making it 901 or 999. but vids with 1k, 2.5k or similar, my like never added to the total. well, just now...... i liked you with 1.1k and propelled you to 1.2k ! my one like finally made a difference. the lord works in mysterious ways. thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

I grew up going to a Christian grade school but then went to a public high school and made many friends who were atheists. I made it very clear that even though I've loved rock/metal since a 6yo kid, I've always loved n still love God/Jesus. I never judged them n they never judged me and I'm friends with most of them to this day at 45yo. (some of my best friends) this has always been one of my favorite Sabbath songs and my favorite lyrics to any rock/metal song.

Mercyful Fate have good name and are Satanists! People need to stop judging a book based on the cover. Ozzy Osbourne is member of Church of England and King Diamond is member of Church of Satan, that's the difference!

Sabbath has always sung about God in so many ways

geezer butler, the bassist, who wrote like 90 percent of the lyrics, was raised devout catholic. as a kid, he even wanted to be a priest when he grew up. there are a lot of sabbath songs with christian themes, particularly on the first three albums. all four members of sabbath were married when they started out and they were apparently anti-drug up to paranoid as far as i know (see "hand of doom"). of course, by the time vol. 4 came out they were very into cocaine and all the rest (see "snowblind", "supernaut" et al)...

I’m not a Christian, nor am I an atheist or any other religious faith follower, but the lyrics here are powerful none the less. What ever message you get from what ever higher power you believe in it obviously has meaning to you, keep believing in what you will, do no harm to others and live free.

This song was written by the bass player Geezer Butler btw . Ozzy did the melodies and singing

Religion is still controlled by those that murdered Christ, the majority of Christians don't even know or use HIS real name...Which isn't jesus, that name was given him by man just 500 years ago. HIS name is YESHUA.

Ha! You pegged me man. Hey great question. I'm down with most of what Christ was purported to have said. But those positive, human, non-devine messages almost certainly emerged from our common humanity and did not originate with the figure of Christ (if he existed at all). You could call me a secular follower of Christ and a follower of the subset of his messages worth following. Cheers Man! Love the Sabbath!

Archaeology supports at least the time period and civilization of the time of Christ at least roughly as it pertains to the Bible. Religion has spilled many gallons of blood and is perpetuated by some bad people (and some good), but I've always felt Atheists were a bit lazy and closed minded.Humanity has pondered the meaning of existence since it has existed. There is nothing wrong with that when done peacefully.

Like another commenter here said, I have seen them multiple times myself, mostly earlier years and Ozzy always said God Bless You we love you at the end of the show. But still God is one of those man made things that will never be proved anyway so....

I was 19 when I heard After Forever for the very first time in 1976 and I was surprised to hear Ozzy sound like a preacher, after hearing lyrics such as "My name is Lucifer please take my hand" in the song NIB, which gave me the impression that they were Satan worshipers. They're all Catholic, but I just hope they all will accept Christ as their Lord and Savior before leaving this life.

From the 1970s this is a very important song when you are trying to understand the world and Vietnam and everything going on like the coldwar.

I listen to Black Sabbath my whole life and they are a good band to listen to if you need spiritual help. Listen to lyrics to many of there songs. They are warning you about evil.

I bought this album when it first came out. Me and my brother called it the Catholic album because of the themes in a lot of the songs.

Who knew? Every Black Sabbath fan ever born, that's who!

Geezer Butler is an Irish Catholic.Sabbath is and always was my favorite band.

The lyrics (all of them) are written by Geezer Butler, the bassist. Combined with Ozzy and his voice they did an amazing job. If you listen to Black Sabbath their songs are war protest songs, the touched on depression, and a lot of spirituality. The real issue is the American and British censors that never listened to the music. Effectively this is the first 'christian metal' song. I do not follow christian metal nor do I care to. But, Black Sabbath, Rush, Slipknot etc. are heavily underrated for their themes and need to be given proper due.

Sabbath came up with their "evil" gimmick when they saw a horror movie called black sabbath and realized people pay a lot of money to get scared. That's why I've always said metal is like the horror movie of the music world.

I'm not from Greenville Michigan hahha. Common misconception due to the imagery and the genre of music Ozzy and the members on Black Sabbath are HIGHLY religious. Most of their music revovles around religion and social issues.

Us of the OG age tried and tried to tell people Black Sabbath was NOT evil but had positive messages in their songs, but many people couldn't get past their name and wouldn't listen........we thought.....oh, well, we tried

The Writ (from Sabotage) is a great song about getting away from the devil after you've made a contract; unknowingly.

The music of Black Sabbath has always been about God, life and music!

I’m not a Christian. I’m a Jew. Since the day I heard this I always found it to be spiritual and validating for those that believe in the One. The ones in my youth that were the most vicious, mean and evil to me were the so called faithful Christian’s.

I always looked at Black Sabbath as music of the apocalypse. It's dark because the end times are dark. Also check out song : " Lord of this World."

Alot of us old Sabbath fans were even amazed to really listen to these lyrics back in the 80s. Black Sabbath never wrote an evil song. Ever ! Geezer wrote 95 percent of the lyrics. Even a song like Black Sabbath was actually a warning. They have even said in different interviews that they had to remind themselves because they have all said they played around with black magic etc. Geezer once said some day people will be amazed to realize Black Sabbath were actually a Christian band. He laughed when he said it, but you can tell by His lyrics that He meant it. That interview is on a live video.

Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics, not Ozzy. Black Sabbath are not a satanic band, they wrote After Forever to dispell that.

I guess the Pastor learned the age-old lesson of "not judging a book by its cover" today.

I'm glad. Someone gets it. I've been a metal head since 1988. Ya I was 4. Anyways everyone always said I was a devil worshipper that listened to Satanic music. No I'm a Jew that loves the artistic side of what alot of people consider the modern equivalent to classical music. Heavy fuckin' Metal!

Right on Pastor! They didn't believe that He was who He said He was BECAUSE he told them who He was. I like what the one guy in the crowd said, "When the 'real' Christ comes, will he do MORE miracles than this man?"

Many people also judge them by their name, when they actually took their name from the 1963 Boris Karloff movie Black Sabbath.

I'm not religious by any means, but this Pastor delving into something out of his element despite his prejudices I respect. And I respect his choice to live what he believes in. Christian folk are alright by me.

Someone may have already made note of the fact that two other Christian bands have recorded this song. 1) Deliverance~ "What a Joke" album 2) Stryper~ "Fallen" album

Sabbath used good vs evil as a frequent topic, both in the Ozzy years and the Dio years as well. But they never PROMOTED the doing of evil.

Black Sabbath has always been a band that makes you think... Many of the lyrics are great, and although the music has that 'darker' sound, that can often be associated with the evil side of humanity, it can also raise the important questions in the minds of their audience. I don't think anyone would put Black Sabbath on Christian radio, or in the pulpit, however, they have always seemed to understand there is good, and evil, (God & Satan), and promote a path toward the good.

Back in my teen years i had a copy of Sabbaths Paranoid album and then my mom found out and told me to throw it away . she was a devout Christian and believed they were devil music which is not the case . she just didnt understand . she was stubborn but i still have that Lp on vinyl

Black Sabbath were Christians who love horror movies. Other than Sweet Leaf (A love sing to pot) and one other song, if you just read the lyrics they were all either pro-Jesus, or in Children of the Grave, a call for peace and love, as this was 1971 during Vietnam. War Pigs on the previous album mentions Satan, but specifically as he welcomes home the men who start wars and have the poor fight them while they sit at home and profit. (Side note, bassist Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics to almost all Ozzy era songs.)

We also can't forget that the lyrics were written by bassist Terry'Geezer' Butler. Ozzy seldom contributed in that department.

Sabbath is the first and BEST Christian rock band. The best, because you didn't even know they were.

Lots of people (and even fans) did not realize the band used to sing about love and God in positive terms. Most times it was hidden behind the heaviest and darkest music of its day- and it WAS amazing music.

This entire album outside of like two or three songs was basically gospel. React to Lord of This World. It has a message that you'll appreciate as a pastor.

It is truly amazing what you people don't know about the lyrics in Black Sabbath songs, there is a lot of truth in them if you bother to read or hear the lyrics. Many were very intense and made true statements. Some that come to mind are War Pigs, Killing yourself to live and many others. These guys were awesome sounding as well. I started listening to them when I was 10, when my brother was selling 4-track tapes (that's right 4-track) at the swap meets in L.A. in 1970. If you want some more meaning in music, listen to "The Animals" Eric Burden was an awesome writer! Sky Pilot, San Franciscan nights, It's my life, White Houses and tons more. The younger people are just missing out on the "Great Stuff"

2 bands in the world that make go like, "where is my guitar", Motorhead and Black Sabbath.

Those that judge this band have never spent time listening to them. Their message is a warning about all that we as a race do wrong. All four of them have been lifelong christians.

This is a great spin on reaction videos, something that was already great. Sabbath was always about love and true feelings. It was just disguised in horror imagery. BTW Geezer Butler was the lyricist of this and most Sabbath songs. Ozzy was the lyricist of the song Black Sabbath, Sabbaths very first and scariest song, as a warning to Geezer of his interest in the occult in which, supposedly he saw an unexplained shadowy figure, watching him at the foot at his bed. Also it was Ozzys uncle or father that made those huge crosses they'd wear because he was Christian. Sabbath was a great and interesting band that was for the good of the world.

Mr. Geezer Butler is an absolute genius. For real, dude

Us old guys know Sharron and Ozzy are Christians. Ozzy always has a cross necklace on and much of their home decor consists of crosses. Also check out Jethro Tull's My God off of Aqualung. Cool video show.
