We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks five languages: Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading Greek! Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all eagerly worked with her when they were in Asia. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere! She was about 37 when she sang this version of “Arirang Alone”, their unofficial national anthem based on a 600 year old folk song expressing their desire to reunify north and south: vimeo.com/308253527 After being sick with pneumonia eight times from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she decided to enter a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international attention from the performances being posted on KZread. Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on KZread and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted Sohyang and went to Japan in order to have her perform eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. She came to the stage from the hospital, reviving from pnemonia and against doctor's orders, and returned to the hospital after her performance. Make sure you don't miss "Amazing Grace" the studio one.

When you consider her doctor didn't really want her talking, it's even more impressive. You can see in her eyes that she's sick (at least if you have seen a bunch of her stuff you can). She has some big swallows and shakey bits at the very beginning, but as the song progresses she embodies the lyrics more and more. Quite powerful.

So Hyang is a 44 years old devout Christian and gospel singer from South Korea. In her early 20's and newly married, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which left her unable to have children. After being healed by God, So Hyang's goal has been to use her voice to bring comfort to people who are experiencing difficult times. She is not motivated by either money or fame. So Hyang does not have any social media platforms. She has rejected numerous offers from major record labels. In addition to being a published author of many books of fiction, So Hyang lectures at a South Korean university, about song and vocal technique. I envy those that were blessed to with any type of singing talent. I’m 58 and I have yet found my talent that we were all supposed to be blessed with. I guess I’m just one of the unfortunate ones. I guess being blessed as a believer in Jesus Christ is the best talent of all. And I can deal with that!

GREAT reaction. What makes this Master Class performance even more impressive is, the 8th Wonder Of The World, So Hyang, is not well here. Prior to this event, she was just released from the hospital, still recovering from one of her numerous bouts with pnuemonia (Eight times between 2016 - 2018). Her physicians advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience, and decided to perform. If I'm not mistaken, she was taken back to the hospital afterwards. So Hyang believed her singing career was over, and practically disappeared for almost two years.

She is a great singer not only because she has such a high note or perfect skill, but also she always makes listners moved with her sincerity. There are other singers who can hit high note, and they surprise me. However she doesn't just surprise me. She always takes me to her own world and comfort me. Oh, my, hang onto your heart on that one, as I think it is maybe even better than this, only because her voice was completely healthy. You just listened to one of the greatest singers in the world today. Try her song 'Everyone'. It's an emotional vocal masterpiece. Sohyang has the voice and heart of an angel. You should read her incredible back story. She has strong faith which helped her through cancer and her life is now dedicated to help others and bring joy with her wonderful voice. Amongst others she also does an amazing version of Amazing Grace.

You need to prove God actually exists before you can make much progress. God says in Romans 1 that it should be obvious that He exists because of the creation. Search KZread for a video called "The Return of the God Hypothesis." It will help you sort all the garbage out that is currently fed to people by the god of this age, Satan.

You should watch Tommy Johannson, guitarist for Sabaton, cover this. He takes the whole song up an entire octave. It is incredible.

Sohyang explains when she sings this song, she imagines sitting on God's shoulder as he performs his miracles. You felt that.

You couldn't pause it because she feels everything she sings. It isn't just a song for her. It's her true belief. I'm not sure how much you know about So Hyang but she had cervical cancer and she gives her life as a testament to her faith and her husband. She is truly a light on a dark night.

She pronounces her name as of that A is a U. So you say it like SoHyung, but it’s spelled SoHyang. She arranges every song she covers. She is a Christian singer who loves God. She is not that famous as she does not sing for fortune or fame, but rather for Gods glory, and to help those feeling down, to hopefully be uplifted be her music. She is amazing, and even though not that famous, she is the best female vocalist on the planet. She sings a live studio recording of amazing grace in both languages, English and Korean. When I first heard this, I really needed to hear it. Sohyang saved my life and I've found her inspiring ever since.

SoHyang confessed later in an interview that she thought this might be her very last public appearance because of her sickness. And all she wanted that night was to get through and finish the song without a major breakdown. Well, she did not just finish it, she smashed it over the roof. Maybe some divine force was with her to carry her on.

Im a Korean fan of Sohyang and searching for people’s reaction on KZread sometimes. I found your video and watched. i’m crying with u after waching you tearing up and hearing your testimony. I stopped to go to the church since 7/1 and Im aftaid to go to church now. I dont know why but my father is a pastor too and never left church this much long time in my life. Her "Everyone" (classic Korean gospel song with some English) is epic and inspiring (Vimeo but not youtube version has English subtitles). In English "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is great and she turns "Lean on Me" into a praise song. In churches she often sings "His Eye Is on the Sparrow", "Amazing Grace" and "O Holy Night". Her own CCM songs are in Korean and better ones include "Until the Lord Returns", "That I Love You", "Butterfly", "The Day Sunlight Kissed Me". She turns Korean pop songs into CCM songs e.g. "Love Poem" and "Pray".

Your pronunciation is fine, So 'yang or young' is as close as an English speaker can normally get. This is the tip of the iceberg. :D Sohyang, who is a gospel singer, has gospel, contemporary Christian music as well as other genres of music and all are this good. You will find Sohayng will be a blessing to you. It's actually REALLY easy to pronounce correctly. The vowel in Hyang is "ah" not "uh" And just pronounce the "H" and it's really simple.

Sohyang doesn’t sing, she ministers.!this isn’t even one of her best performances, she shouldn’t even have been singing in this show because she was still suffering from her latest bout of pneumonia & the doctor had advised her not to sing. Anyone familiar with Sohyang can see that she looks tired & like she’s lost weight around her face. OMG!!
