Thanks, Matt! 'blocking in colors and making adjustments', and mixing black with other colors to look more natural are two ideas I appreciated hearing, today. Really good reminders.
That lemon is so good! I can't wait to try this!
You made lesson 1 so much fun. I enjoyed your slow paced instructions. I am a believer!
I enjoyed painting this and the result was beautiful. Thank you for this video!! Your tips helped enormously. I look forward to working on more of your lessons. Thanks again!
I'm new to art this was a great quick practice exercise for me. Mine came out nice for my first time with soft pastels. I see myself using these a lot!
Thank you very much! This is my first pastel exercise and I am so enjoying it! Very clear and motivational instructions.
Your clear instructions are wonderful. I’ve learned so much already! Thank you 😊
This looks just like an oil painting rendition. Beautiful.
Thank you! As a beginner, I followed along thinking there was no way mine was going to turn out...but in the end it did! I'm really happy with the result. Wonderful tutorial!
Matt, your style of teaching is fun, informative, interesting...and addictive
Brilliant 30 min exercise and very enjoyable thankyou.
Awesome, I like this dood matt. Easy to listen too and great instruction
Fantastic demo. Thank you!
Enjoyed this and did my first lemon on oil pastels (also first apple and first time to use oil pastels which I bought today while out of town) I need to practice 30 min a day like you said. Life gets in the way and other projects ...
Beautiful! Mi fai venire voglia di comprare pastelli e matite e cominciare a creare! Grazie
I just finished this tutorial and before I do anything else, I want to thank you for you for this clear, fun, and informative lesson! It’s given me confidence to believe I can move forward. I really appreciate having the opportunity to learn!

Truely wonderful.
Thank you, great lesson.
Excellent… your teaching instructions r spot on. A natural… a soft makeup brush from dollar store works well for removing dust… beautiful… pastel is a lovely medium…

É pastel seco ou oleoso?
I used this for my very first pastel exercise! It was ok but, I think my paper was too rough as it showed through even after much blending! But, at least now I ‘ve discovered pastel work. Thanks. Your lemon was great mine it passed for a lemon……just! Big thanks!
Nice job thank you,
Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍
Beautiful
thank you. I did it. Not too bad. Total beginner.
Wonderful
Awesome 👍
Great job! Your voice is soothing, your style encouraging....
So pretty😁
Bravo, what a talented teacher and painter you are. I find this video very helpful in my learning of pastel drawing. One observation that I have made is that you seem not to be cleaning your fingers after switching from one colour pastel to another, does not mix with previous? colours
Nice 👍🏻
Cool👌
Love it:)
Molto bravo
I am very very new to pastels. Were you using oil pastels or soft? This is definitely I am going to try. Thank you
I enjoy your lessons. I am careful not to blow on the pastel painting to avoid breathing the dust. I work in a vertical orientation and tap letting the dust fall into a gutter due to health concerns.
Wonderful yet again! Can you tell me please what pastels you’re using?

Hi Sue, These are Rembrandt pastels. I hope this helps.
Could you propose us other fruit sketch please? They are so beautiful

Were those Rembrandt Pastel Pencils, or some other? I really enjoy pastel drawings, i find it so much more flexible than just colored pencils!

I didn’t know pastel papers exist . I always used normal sketching paper and wondered why they don’t work . I just did a quickie on watercolour paper and results were good
So beautiful, I would like to know what sort pastels brand your using and also the paper description, my pastels seem too soft it takes me a lot to fill the gabs and achieve such vibrant results.

Will it look nice if painted on black sand paper?
Thank you for: Using black Blowing on the pastel painting These are two things that seem to be pastel taboos on other channels. Good work!!
Well done! Just wondering about you blowing all the excess pastel. Must make your studio and maybe your lungs dusty?
dear Matt thanks a lot for the exercises and your instructions. What is the pastel pencil you use for the deep shadow under the lemon? I tried Pitt and carbothello and Carbon but none of them is creamy as yours and tend to scratch the previous pastel rather than blending. Thanks always for your great instructions (I am considering to subscribe, if one it’s you)

Do you like sandpaper or textured paper? If so why is it?'.....I love meteintes touch sandpaper....although world loves pastelmat....please comment
There's a big shadow edge missing in front or it's way too light.
I have read over and over that we should not blow on our pastel paintings while working, because the dust is toxic. Since you are working vertically, would enough pastel dust fall off the painting without having to blow on it? I'm just wondering about safety - it is SO tempting to blow the excess away while working!!! Thank you!
What kind of pastels do you use ?
Nice work, but what sort of pastel use you ? The Yellow is not the same like the other pastel. (le pastel jaune n'est pas de la même texture que les autres...)
Which pastel set should I buy?
hola haber si puedes hacer una cesta de frutas
Do you always use your fingers, or will paper towel ing wotk? I am a baby beginner in pastel. Thank you.

You can use a chamois, paper towel, or blending stumps to blend.

Nice tutorial. One problem: professional pastelists do not blow on their paintings/drawings. They tap the edge on the table top to remove the excess dust.
Like the lessons, but I never blow the pastel.
@AuMelvin

I just tap it out every now & then in a trash can. Bad for the lungs to have all those dust flying around 😀
I can spend all day and forever trying to get a perfect drawing and then I sketch a lemon, use chisel tip markers for bkground & foreground texture and form in 15min and I’m more proud of it than the laborious “perfected” drawing…. Go figure . I’m definitely doing these 10-20min studies daily and probably still doing the elaborate taxing ones
Matt. You should not blow uour pastel dust. Please wear a mask.

Or he can use a mini vacuum with a HEPA filter. Long term inhalation of pastel dust can cause COPD.
This was very good but the blowing was super distracting.
The top looks fuzzy.
