What's crazy, Dustin Hoffman was cast to play Franz Liebkind in The Producers, for her husband Mel Brooks. The night before filming he got called to audition for The Graduate and got that part as well, so he gave up The Producers.

Anne Bancroft has enough energy here to light up the entire state of New York, very inspiring !!!!

What a pleasure it is to watch these without commercials, three or four at a time. I was a Password fan kid and had to wait for a half hour show once a week in the early days.

We didn't watch much TV growing up but my parents had the second television in The San Fernando Valley at Easter of 1946 or 1947...I was not around yet! However, we always watched Password and To Tell The Truth...

Been binge-watching Password to distract myself from this bizarro world. It's a great show.

Anne Bancroft is just beautiful !

Anne was super adorable on Password. Seemed so genuine, and looked like she was having so much fun ❤. Must've been a sad loss for Mel when she passed away in 05.

Man this show pulled some talent back in the day.

I love the way Ms. Bancroft is concentrating on the game and collaborating with her "stage" partner, even in just this game show. What a pleasure it must have been to perform with someone so attentive and focused!

Anne Bancroft was delightful. Easy to see why Mel experienced love at first sight.

Did anyone else notice that Anne spelled out COZY to her partner with her right hand in sign language @14:35?

Anne was delightful with all her enthusiasm and excitement. Love this show and they have wonderful stars

Allen's growing frustration, trying to keep everyone in check, was palpable.

Ann Bancroft is my favorite actress of all time. She also starred in my favorite movie 84 Charing Cross Road. Second is Audrey Hepburn and Breakfast at Tiffany's. This was a treat to watch!!!!!

2023 I came here to say this. No one seemed to catch it at the time. Not even the audience. It was wayyy out of bounds! (delivered by the cutest actress ever!)

At 8:02 Anne tells contestant Doug "My dear, I think we're in love!". Doug then lets Anne know his wife is in the audience. I've never seen a celebrity gave such quick crush on a contestant! ☺

Anne Bancroft got a Best Actress Oscar for her work in the 1962 film, The Miracle Worker. Not long after this episode of Password.

The contestants are so well dressed compared to today's. I've watched a lot of these shows when it was young and they didn't figure that saying the opposite meaning is actually easier for a win than describing the synonym for the word.

Robert Goulet was so incredibly handsome!

The shows with the same contestants throughout are really more enjoyable.

Dustin Hoffman was a bore in the graduate, moody and soulful. After all these years we can see that Mrs. Robinson is really the only interesting role in the movie - as Anne herself said "Why do you think I took it1"

It's good to see grown people have clean fun. Need more of that in this world. To much crime and hatered in 2022

Recommend a film that Anne Bancroft did called THE PUMPKIN EATER (1964). Tour-de-Force Performance. Wow!

That is an incredible film. It's such a deep character study on toxic marriages from the woman's perspective. Slender Thread was another one she did. Kinda similar to The Pumpkin Eater (in terms of her character except she plays an American)

There's a huge advantage in getting the second clue.

yea i noticed that. It really sucks because the loser always gets the first chance at the next word, so if they don't get it on the first try (which is fairly rare), the team who won the last round gets the '2nd clue advantage'. There was an episode i watched last night with Tom Poston with a lawyer vs a housewife, and the housewife shut out the whole game because she always got/gave epic 2nd clues. Whoever goes first almost ALWAYS gets hosed on this game.

These early shows were quite loose and freewheeling weren't they? There clearly was a lot of gesticulating and other rule-breaking stuff going on.

Allen Ludden is my hero he is awesome

Ya know it's not just the celebrities' and contestants' fault when they do the hand gestures. It's JUST as much Allen's fault, because he is CONSTANTLY telling them no hand gestures but that's ALL he does. He doesn't tell them "If you do it again, you won't be back" or SOMETHING to let them know he's serious. But all he EVER did was simply TELL them. The do it again, he TELLS them. They do it again, he TELLS them. No wonder they kept doing, they knew he was never do anything But then again, it didn't seem to MATTER how many times Allen said it, Robert kept doing it anyway!!

Ann is so full of life!

That teacher was so anxious it was actually making me irritated. Holy hell... Look at him, rocking constantly back and forth. He couldn't sit still for 2 seconds.

Exceedingly annoying and doing the handsy garbage also. A person could get seasick watching him. Hope he gargled before coming on stage because he was only inches away from the faces. ugh!

Anne Bancroft is a perfect example of women getting better with age, she looks great here but much hotter in the graduate imo. This is my second viewing of this episode, like I said before Anne Bancroft is just awesome

The overly handsy and pushy chemistry teacher said: "Risotto", and the "CC" printed words said "Risotto". I have NO idea why he gave that word for a clue to Password "Scooter". 🙃

The clue given was Rizzuto. He was a major league baseball player whose nickname was Scooter. At the time of this broadcast he was a popular sportscaster. Phil Rizzuto.

This episode aired tonight on the city schools cable channel here. Tuned in just before this moment. Saw Anne's spelling 'cozy' in ASL and did a double-take, astonished. Did I really see that? Press record on the cable box, rewound to that moment, and replayed, first at regular speed and then in slow motion. I couldn't make out if anyone on the show @PASSWORD had caught that. Wife's been interested in ASL for a while, not fluently, but does okay. I immediately went to get her to watch and replayed the 'cozy' part from the beginning, not telling her what had happened. She got it. ;) :D

A.B. was a crummy player on the Lightning rounds. If the person does not get it after saying "picture" thrice, she should have said "Camera" or "Kodak" or "Polaroid". Not a good episode at all.

The beautiful (and enthusiastic) Anne Bancroft was born Anna Maria Italiano. What's coincidental is the lady contestant's name is Annemarie. I tried to catch her responding every time the host addressed Annemarie, but she never let on. So focused.

Catch Anne Bancroft trying to cheat by spelling the word in sign language (14:34). 😛 No one caught it (prolly not many viewers, either) - Ludden did mention seeing her using gestures but prolly had no idea it was sign lang. A skill she learned in preparation for her role in The Miracle Worker. Pretty sly, but it didn't work.

They should have allowed as many words as possible to be guessed in the lightning round rather than just five. Excellent players easily could have guessed seven or eight words correctly. The final lightning round in this episode is proof of that.
