Passover Part 1 - Jim Staley

How and why do we still celebrate Passover after Yeshua's (Jesus's) resurrection? The reality is Passover, and all the Spring Feasts, point directly TO Yeshua's death, burial, and resurrection! Pastor Jim Staley's teaching on Passover goes over some basics about the Passover meal and gets into the deeper significance of this Biblical feast as well, including scientific analysis of when Yeshua actually dies on the cross. Understanding how this Feast Day fits into God's prophetic calendar will help every Christian connect to the roots of their faith like never before!

I too pray every morning ,Jim, and this is what He has shared with my heart....... "I Am coming quickly and My reward is with Me. Make ready your hearts and prepare a double portion, for the 6th day is closing and my 7th Day rest is at hand. Feed on My Word and fill up on My Mercy every morning. Call out to Me and stay focused on Me at all times through constant prayer. Lift up all peoples that I have put in your path and intercede for them as I intercede for you before My Father and your Father. Keep your eyes on Me, not looking to the left or to the right. for I have given you the power to overcome.

Thank you Pastor Staley for this tremendous and insightful teaching. It reveals that Yeshua/Jesus Christ the Messiah brought the fulfillment of His Law of the Prophets to fruition in the physical by displaying that He is the Torah that became Flesh and Tabenacled/dwelt among us. Be blessed!!!🕊🕊🕊

Brother, what a beautiful teaching on the Passover. And the difference between Easter and the Passover. It was great until the end…….then you did a Calvary Chapel Alter Call? Seriously? Look asking the crowd if they question their Salvation is one thing, an Alter Call in another. What if you would have asked them if they questioned their Salvation they could talk to you after the teaching/service? Wouldn’t that be more appropriate? Other than that……fabulous teaching. My prayers are with you and your Ministry. Be blessed brother. ❤️🦁✝️🙏🏻

It’s very simple. When people are dipping their toe in the water…..the last thing they want is to be pressured to jump in the lake. What’s wrong with an open invitation to the curious to come and talk, get more information so they can make a well informed decision. Alter Calls are emotional. People can feel pressured into making a decision that they don’t understand. So, instead of them truly understanding that life changing decision, they feel the eyes of the ministry staring at them. That life changing decision needs to be inform not emotional. Just a thought. Be blessed. 🦁✝️🙏🏻

Jim, i believe you are in error regarding a couple points you have presented. regarding the day of the resurrection, consider that the inclusive/exclusive day count argument is precisely what “Good” Friday crucifixion proponents use, counting a *part* of a day as an entire day. it’s a poor argument considering the scriptures specify 3 days AND 3 nights. the fact remains that Jesus was placed into the tomb by sunset which was the First Day of Unleavened Bread. a complete day begins at sunset with the evening first. the only way 3 days & 3 nights can mathematically work out is that He was placed into the tomb at the end of a wednesday and rose at the end of the Sabbath, which certainly could have been directly after sunset, meaning He would have still risen on the first day of the week which begins directly at sunset. while the word translated as “early” refers to the final watch hour leading up to sunrise in Mark 16:9, the word “rose” (anistemi) doesn’t merely mean “rose from the dead” - it also can mean “stand forth before someone to engage in a conversation”. therefore, the timing of this verse can certainly be understood to mean that He appeared first to Mary to converse with her when she arrived very early on the first day of the week. this all stands to reason as it is the Day of Firstfruits. also notice that all four gospel accounts make clear that Mary arrived at the tomb “early” (by or at sunrise), but none claim that Christ rose at this time, mostly likely because they understood Him to have risen by the beginning of the first day which was the sunset prior to this dawn (Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:1-2; Luke 24:1; John 20:1). we cannot randomly elect to interpret scriptures which use the phrase “on the third day” as meaning Christ’s resurrection occurred *on* the third day for the same very reason you present regarding Matthew 26:17 which was obviously mistranslated as “on” the First Day of ULB. notice that while Matthew’s scriptures are rendered “the third day he shall rise again” and “the third dat he shall be raised again”, etc. (16:21, 17:23, 20:19; 26:61; 27:38; 27:64), chapter 27 & verse 63 says “after three days I will rise again”. the same translational inconsistencies regarding the “third day” are also found in the other gospels. there are simply too many examples of poor translations regarding matters of timing to lean heavily upon these. there is also the passage in Daniel which in part prophecy of Messiah being cut off in the middle of the week which is “Wednesday”, the fourth day of the week: Daniel 9: 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off [NKJV: Messiah shall be cut off], but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst [NKJV: middle] of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. as our true Passover Lamb who takes away the sin of the world, Yahshua caused the physical sacrifices to be ended at the time of His perfect sacrifice which all of these physical lamb sacrifices symbolically pointed to from the onset. you also claim that the bread & wine ceremony which memorializes Jesus’ sacrifice has nothing to do with Passover, that it’s merely the breaking of bread together we do in giving thanks at every meal together. please consider that these are updated symbols for the Passover - His body & blood - which reflect the updated covenant and priesthood. here’s a short study on this commonly misunderstood subject regarding the Passover. Passover Simplified drive.google.com/file/d/1DzmP6Rn6wsaXy3MzIVj92Pv_jIyWNZ0w/view?pli=1 also, please keep in mind that the seder is a tradition in Judaism and is not found in the Bible. even the word “herbs” in Exodus 12 is not in the original text, suggesting that another way to understand that verse is “with unleavened bread and with bitterness they shall eat it” - bitterness because of all the death which was about to occur that night. regarding the bread which Christ used to institute the symbols of the new covenant Passover, there is really no way to prove whether or not it was leavened or unleavened even doing the word studies. however, knowing that the process is the new covenant Passover and that Deuteronomy 16:3-8 makes clear that we are to eat no leavened bread with the Passover, and that at this season unleavened bread symbolically represents the body of Christ, it seems wise to use unleavened bread. after all, most folks have their homes de-leavened by the 14th preparation day for the Days of Unleavened Bread. thankfully, none of these are salvational issues. unfortunately, too many brethren attempt to make them to be so. thank you for not pushing your perspectives on these matters in such a way. Godbless… 🙏🏼😎❤♾

Cedar wood was a popular building material for temples, palaces and seagoing vessels, from Solomon’s famed Temple to the so-called “Jesus Boat” of the first century C.E. Today, Lebanese cedar trees grow mostly in Lebanon and southern Turkey, with a few found in Cyprus and Syria. As the Bible makes clear, the valuable wood had to be imported into ancient Israel. The Phoenician king Hiram of Tyre sent Lebanese cedar, carpenters and masons to Jerusalem to build a palace for King David (2 Samuel 5:11). Likewise, Hiram provided cedars and artisans to King Solomon for the construction of his own palace as well as the Temple in Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 2:3,7; 1 Kings 5:20).

Pastor Staley has Mark 16:9 incorrect. Punctuation is off. It could be rendered, When Jesus had risen, or after Jesus had risen, then early on the first day of the week, he appeared to Mary. Remember Mark 16:1-3, previous verses, already tell us that at the “very early” part of the first day of the week, the women arrived at the tomb and found the stone rolled away. Resurrection was prior to “very early” on first day of week and resurrection was also prior to “early” on first day of the week. Jonah was 3 nights and 3 days in the depths. Look at the Hebrew. Yahushua was also 3 nights and 3 days in the depth of the earth. He rose at dusk on late Saturday afternoon.

@@revam360Mark 16:9-20 is not present in the two best ancient manuscripts, nor in many more. Both Eusebius and Jerome (and several other church fathers) claim that this ending did not belong in the text. For example, Eusebius, in the 3rd century, said: “Accurate copies define the end of the story according to Mark in [16:8]…in this way, the end of the Gospel of Mark is definitive in almost all copies.” Other manuscripts present two more endings after verse 8. These 11 verses contain several words and expressions that Mark does not use anywhere else in his gospel. The long ending does not flow naturally after 16:8. The subject in Mark 16:8 is feminine plural (they), but it appears to be Jesus in v. 9 (“After being resurrected…”). He introduces himself to Mary Magdalene again (Mark 16:9), after having done so in Mark 16:1. Mark 16:2 talks about the first day of the week, but then Mark 16:9 repeats it. There are certain peculiar teachings in this ending, the strangest of which is Mark 16:16, which seems to teach that it is necessary to be baptized to be saved. This can be explained biblically, but it is, to say the least, peculiar.

Because there was blood and water together coming out of the heart/lung in the side where the spear pierced Yeshua/Jesus side on the cross, showed that Yeshua/Jesus actuall did die and was dead when the piercing took place. Why important? Because there are/were people who claimed Yeshua/Jesus wasn't really dead and that was why the tomb was empty because he walked out because they said he wasn't dead. But Yeshua did die and rose on the 3rd day.

For those saying it was a passover meal. Go to the greek words. I've done the work for you. Except it or don't. Do not be ugly to me. Matt 26:16,17+ the feast of unleavened bread Greek G106 arzumos "unleavened bread" Matt 26:26 (the last supper) "Jesus took the bread" Greek G740 artos "raised loaf" Luke 22:19 (last supper) "and he took the bread" Greek G740 artos "raised loaf" “After two days it was the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Greek G106 arzumos "unleavened bread" - Mar 14:1 (NKJV) Mark 14:22 (the last supper) "and as they did eat Jesus took the bread" Greek G740 artos "raised loaf" 1 Corinthians 11:23, 24 ²³ For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." Greek G740 artos "raised loaf" The last supper was not the passover meal. It was dinner with leavened bread. G740 artos "raised loaf". "unleavened bread" is G106 arzumos. Also Judas left after he took (G740 artos, raised loaf) bread. And everyone thought Yeshua sent him to buy things for the feast. And it's dark. If this is passover there would be no where to shop because this would be a high Sabbath. The first day of unleavened bread. No one would be open. See the following. John 13 (NKJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ²⁷ Now after the piece of bread (G740 artos, raised loaf) , Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly." ²⁸ But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. ²⁹ For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, "Buy those things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor. ³⁰ Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night. Also there is nothing in scripture that they should be drinking wine on passover. No where is this part of passover according to Torah. This is simply a meal. Also after dinner they all leave the house. (they would typically stay till morning) They are then rounded up by religious leaders on what should be the first high Sabbath of matza. Making it the high Sabbath when Yeshua is killed. The day of the fifteenth. And further evidence is when Yeshua was captured the pharisees brought him in early morning... “Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, (oral tradition) but that they might eat the Passover.” - John 18:28 (NKJV)

Read exodus 12. Passover the 14th wasn’t a high sabbath, angel of death passes over night of 14, morning of the 14 Egyptian bury dead then Israelites and mixed multitude leave. Passing out of Egypt on the 15th this is the high sabbath not the 14th , so Judas could have left the upper room and gone and bought things in the city.

I was not attacking you. My apologies if it appeared that way. I’m not sure I quite understood your last comment. The 14th isn’t a high Sabbath. It is the night that the angel of death passed over. On that night they were commanded not to leave their houses yet it would appear that that particular command was not a perpetual commandment for observing Passover for future generations. The requirements were: a lamb, bitter herbs, unleavened bread (and circumcision). Then we have the children of Israel plundering the Egyptians (during the daylight portion of the 14th) and leaving Egypt in the evening which begins the 15th. And that day is the high Sabbath which they were commanded to keep where YHVH placed His name (tabernacle/temple) which is also referred to as Passover. So there are actually two Passover observances, one commemorating the angel of death passing over (14th) and then the other on the 15th (high day) at the temple. They were to celebrate the time they left Egypt. That is the high day, not the day the angel passed over. Can supply references if needed.

@@kimberleyjack1234 your on the right track. But no one said the 14th is the high Sabbath. The night when the lamb is consumed its the high Sabbath. It is when the sun goes down on the 14th which begins the 15th. When the sun comes up it is the day of the 15th. The day changes dates at Sundown instead of midnight. (read about the feast for more details) that's why Judas could not have left to go buy if the last supper was passover. And that would make our lord being slain on the high Sabbath of the 15th. The 15th is the first high Sabbath of unleavened bread. It last for seven days. On the last day of unleavened bread it is another high Sabbath. It's not two passovers it is two feasts together (so to speak). Hope this clears it up. Sorry for the earlier response. People don't like waking to the truth of God's word compared to what they have been taught. Im used to being attacked. I obviously miss read your response.

At 1:13:15 of the video you make the statement " By the way the bread that was used on that last supper was leavened bread". I don't think so as the bread represented Yeshua's sinless body - it had to be unleavened. Also check out Ex 12: 8; Deut 16:2-3; Num 9:11. Yehovah God gives instructions to eat unleavened bread with the Passover lamb. Yeshua was our Passover lamb, therefore unleavened bread would have been used.

Staley makes much of Mark 16:9 and therefore his errors need to be corrected in order to have a proper understanding. First, why not start at the beginning of the Chapter 16? Where it specifically stated that the 3 women came to the tomb exactly when the day was dawning and saw that the stone had ALREADY been rolled away. Jesus did NOT rise at dawn. He should realize this since that is the false religion of Baal/Ashteroth that has that tradition of rising at the eastern sunrise. Second, the translation from Greek fails to include the proper sense. The "early" does not describe the rising, it is attached to the first day of the week. "Now having risen, early(at dawn) on the first day of the week he appeared....". But the clincher is to verify from the original Aramaic. Where it states:" At dawn on the first day of the week, having risen, he appeared...." That is the proper sense of the phrase.

Mark 16:9-20 is not present in the two best ancient manuscripts, nor in many more. Both Eusebius and Jerome (and several other church fathers) claim that this ending did not belong in the text. For example, Eusebius, in the 3rd century, said: “Accurate copies define the end of the story according to Mark in [16:8]…in this way, the end of the Gospel of Mark is definitive in almost all copies.” Sorry Jim, Yeshua rise from the dead on Shabat, on the 3 pm aprox YHVH bless all Yisrael

Yeshua is LORD of the Sabbath Matt 12:8; Luke 6:5. Just perhaps He did rise on His day.

ALL of Mankind of yesterday, today, tomorrow, and future generations had/have sin. Yeshua/Jesus died for ALL of mankind of yesterday, today, tomorrow, and all future generations. So saying that the Jews were the only ones who killed Yeshua/Jesus (placed him on the cross to be crucified), Only, is not scriptural.

I just ask myself how people feel like when they do much research and Bible studies to aqure knowledge and skills to urgue the the word of God. They later on start their Churches and speak with confidence the word of God and pull crowds who believe them without knowing they are headed for jehanam. Know the only true church of God and you will be saved. There is no truth in denominitions or man-made churches.

There is evidence from Scripture that Jesus experienced hypovolemic shock as a result of being flogged. As Jesus carried His own cross to Golgotha (John 19:17), He collapsed, and a man named Simon was forced to either carry the cross or help Jesus carry the cross the rest of the way to the hill (Matthew 27:32-33; Mark 15:21-22; Luke 23:26). This collapse indicates Jesus had low blood pressure. Another indicator that Jesus suffered from hypovolemic shock was that He declared He was thirsty as He hung on the cross (John 19:28), indicating His body’s desire to replenish fluids. Prior to death, the sustained rapid heartbeat caused by hypovolemic shock also causes fluid to gather in the sack around the heart and around the lungs. This gathering of fluid in the membrane around the heart is called pericardial effusion, and the fluid gathering around the lungs is called pleural effusion. This explains why, after Jesus died and a Roman soldier thrust a spear through Jesus’ side, piercing both the lungs and the heart, blood and water came from His side just as John recorded in his Gospel (John 19:34).

The Roman flogging or scourging that Jesus endured prior to being crucified normally consisted of 39 lashes, but could have been more (Mark 15:15; John 19:1). The whip that was used, called a flagrum, consisted of braided leather thongs with metal balls and pieces of sharp bone woven into or intertwined with the braids. The balls added weight to the whip, causing deep bruising as the victim was struck. The pieces of bone served to cut into the flesh. As the beating continued, the resulting cuts were so severe that the skeletal muscles, underlying veins, sinews, and bowels of victims were exposed. This beating was so severe that at times victims would not survive it in order to go on to be crucified. Those who were flogged would often go into hypovolemic shock, a term that refers to low blood volume. In other words, the person would have lost so much blood he would go into shock. * found on internet = not my own.

In the case of Jesus, they saw He had become unconscious and likely was already dead. To confirm, a spear was shoved into His side, likely under His ribs, that ruptured the pericardial sack, resulting in a flow of both blood and water. While this manner of death was a brutal end for Jesus, there was also prophetic significance to this event. John states in John 19:36-37, "For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: 'Not one of his bones will be broken.' And again another Scripture says, 'They will look on him whom they have pierced.'" The first reference is likely to Exodus 12:46. The second reference is from Zechariah 12:10. Both were written hundreds of years before this event.

The second way death often occurred during crucifixion was due to asphyxiation. This simply means the person is unable to breathe in enough oxygen to survive. Crucifixion victims typically had to pull their weight up with their hands or wrists that were nailed to the crossbeam along with pushing up with the feet or ankles that had another nail through them. Over time, the ability to push up to breathe would end and oxygen flow would be restricted. This asphyxiation can also result in the buildup of fluid around the heart.

American heritage dictionary: fulfill foo͝l-fĭl′ transitive verb To bring into actuality; effect or make real. To do, perform, or obey (a task or order, for example); carry out . If we just look up the word, it is clearly not defined as changing, doing away with, taking out of the way or whatever else people want to try to make it mean to support their desire to disobey. People have become too Amazon fulfillment center minded, where orders are received, filled and completed/accomplished.
