Pass The Buck (Australia) (19 Feb 2002) - 4 Night champ Goes for Car

Ойын-сауық

Another one of the short-lived game shows of 2002 - "Pass The Buck" took over the timeslot once filled by the 6-year veteran, "Burgo's Catch Phrase". It may have been a new show, but John Burgess was kept on, and even his long-time experience with game show hosting couldn't save this format from a quick demise (Burgo's Catch Phrase was reinstated with new set and format soon after). In this episode, 4th night champ Michelle is vying for the Hyundai, can she make the grade?

This was originally in the UK, hosted by Fred Dinenage. This was a daytime show and definitely not primetime. It was kind of clunky, but still good fun.

We had a game show in the States called "Pass the Buck" that ran for about 13 weeks in 1978. It was hosted by the legendary Bill Cullen, and while there are some similarities between the two, I honestly believe the American version has the better format. Fewer contestants (4 as opposed to 10), each correct answer would be worth cash built into a pot awarded for winning the game, and an endgame that required more diverse knowledge than remembering a list of prizes.

Burgo's Catch Phrase and The Price Is Right both had 9 lives. Networks these days will cancel a show once and rarely ever come back!

The Price Is Right served it's time throughout many networks within the early 80's right up until to 2004 - 2005 even though it finished up on the Nine Network in 2005 it still got that revive on channel 7 in 2012 The 2012 revive of The Price Is Right was really a waste of time and tasteless with the constant prices always coming up from Big W. John Burgess will always be highly recognized for the work he did with Wheel Of Fortune throughout the 80's & 90's on Channel 7 For anyone who also remembered that in 2008 on the Nine Network that Wheel Of Fortune had a revive hosted by Tim Campbell that also had it's short lived moment too. But with Pass The Buck & Burgo's Catch Phrase they didn't really have that certain kick as Wheel Of Fortune had. They were both kinda slowed paced and suddenly became repetitive. Eventually the state of games show will eventually die out Channel 7 are currently showing repeats of Deal Or No Deal aswell as Channel 9 are also currently showing repeats of Millionaire Hot Seat. Unfortunately it's a thing of the past now. The only game show that is really giving a good hard go at the moment is Million Dollar Minute. Everything else was trail and error look at Shafted in 2002, Greed hosted by Kerri-Anne Kennerley in 2001, The Rich List hosted by Andrew O'Keefe Keynotes hosted by Richard Wilkins, Cash Bonanza, The Million Drop in 2011 and many more which had short runs. And who can forget the revamp of Sale Of The Century with it's format of Temptation hosted by Ed Phillips in 2005 - 2009 it only got a 4 year run it was never going to upstand the mark of the original Sale Of The Century.

it seems to me that when another network nabs a gameshow from another network that has aired it for a long time, it never works

TheTvGuru3 Of course, Larry Emdur's first run of "Price" was an exception. (Turps' first version ran on Seven from '81 to '86, then his second version only lasted a few months on Ten, then Emdur's first version ran on Nine from '93 to '98, followed by his second Nine run from 2003 to 2005, and then his notorious run on Seven in 2012 {though Larry himself was actually one of the best parts of that particular series}.)

I honestly see potential with this format. Of course, w/ a little influence from the USA version, it probably could've been a keeper. Here's what I'd have done: Start w/ a $500 bank, adding $50 for every answer in rounds 1-3, $100 in rounds 4-6, and $150 in rounds 7 & 8. In Round 9 (Heads Up), each point earned adds $200 to the bank, and the clock starts only AFTER the host finished reading the question, stopping on a miss or complete list. Obviously, winner of R9 takes the bank. For the bonus round, I'd keep the one from the American version.

I don't like this format at all. Unless someone has an amazing short-term memory it just seems to be random. There's was little interesting trivia - most of the stuff a kid in primary school would know. And seeing a few people remember random objects is less than scintillating. It's only chance was huge prizemoney, and even then I doubt that would've saved it.
