Mastering the L Foot Variation will help you in the Syncopated Separation. The 2nd part of the Syncopated Separation has the syncopations that are almost similar to the L Foot Variation figure's syncopations.

Let me give you the origin of the "banderillas" figure. Banderillas are spears used in the bullfight that are put into the bull to slow down its activity during the corrida before the matador makes his final sword blow on it. That is why the first 4 steps of the Banderillas depict the Bandelliero lifting the spear in preparing to stick the spear into the bull, and the 5th step is the actual spearing, and the rest of the steps will be like the Grand Circle - depicting the banderillero evading the bull post-stick by going around the bull.

First 5 steps of La Passe are same as in Sixteen. Next steps 6-16 are different.

@@EgilsSmagris Very keenly - the mantra is this - The 16 has time-steps for the man - but the La Passe focus on forward steps for the lead with 3-beat holds (done 3 times) before the figure comes to an end.

Why is the lady's head held with the chin tucked far in and the eyes on the floor?

@@EgilsSmagris Paso doble is the most theatrical of all Latin dances in a 5-dance Latin program. Even more theatrical than the "dance of love" Rumba, in my opinion, Coming from France and Spain, paso depicts the bravery of the matador with one's cape during the bullfights, so posture, poise, space, and overall character are very important to portray this dance. Without characterization and all that, paso doble, especially if danced in competition, has zero expression at all. Basically meaningless.
