I think it's sad that so many comments seem to be interpreting the cloud as like toxic or mentally ill or whatever, like, he isn't doing something bad, he's creating babies for the crocodile families etc; someone has to do it, and the fact that he's able to delight in them even though they aren't traditionally soft and cute is lovely. Sometimes the road less walked is difficult, but it doesn't make it any less wonderful for this stork to complete a family, in this example. I am also reading too far into this, but like, I feel like immediately jumping to toxic etc is a shame. Sometimes in life things are just hard. And if you are seeing yourself in the cloud, feeling different or mentally ill, you needn't write it off as a bad thing, because again the thing he is doing is very good and necessary is what I want to say, I guess. (Also I don't see what's wrong with him getting upset when his buddy seems to be leaving, like damn, he didn't lash out at anyone or try to force the stork to come back, people/clouds can have feelings without it being toxic).

I cried reading this interpretation; I really love this animation for EXACTLY this reason. Life isn't always sunshine and rainbows; SOMEONE is doing the dreary and painful work that no one else wants to do because, it HAS to be done; so, to be accommodated and loved unconditionally through the process of doing that work is so, so important; it's also a breath of fresh air to see that in interpretive media, and to see it being interpreted the way it was meant to be. The Hagrid of clouds making babies for the stork to deliver. Cause everybody deserves a baby. Even the dangerous critters.

Its not that their friendship was toxic but its just that they know that it was their task to deliver offsprings for dangerous creatures. The stork doesn't hate his friends but is just tired and trying to find a way to handle his task without injuries. The stork doesn't mind how dangerous the offsprings he's gonna deliver since we can see him still coming back to deliver, since like all the storks, he loves his job of helping creatures build their families especially that his was to help unusual ones which makes his role even more special

I don't see it as toxic, I see it as accepting someone for who they are. It's easy to love someone cute and cuddly who has had an easy road. But would they stick it out when times got tough? It's caring about someone that makes them adapt and support instead of walking away.

My interpretation of this is that some people, even with good hearts, have problems that makes it hard for some to love or appreciate them. The storm cloud makes the babies for dangerous animals and the stork gets hurt helping him and it’s difficult for him. The storm cloud doesn’t take the stork for granted and clearly loves and cares about him, which to the stork makes it all worth while despite how hard it is. When the cloud thinks the stork left him it’s heartbreaking to him and he starts crying, but when he comes back he has nothing but joy to see his friend again and the stork, despite how much he got hurt helping the storm cloud, knew it wasn’t ever his fault or intent and won’t abandon his friend. It’s really beautiful honestly.

When I was younger, I thought the dark cloud was being selfish and thoughtless. But after a few years I realize this can be a metaphor for someone suffering or going through a hard time. They are more difficult to love, but a loyal friend never gives up on them, instead encourages them and learns how to uplift them. In time, the dark cloud becomes a happy cloud :)

This has to be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. So adorable

I also came to realize that this cloud is the only one providing babies to other animals than dogs, cats or humans. The thought that these two are bringing happiness to all those species the others might forget even though the delivery can be rough makes me happy

Yah we can't control how we are born, and sometimes what problems we have (illness, responsibilities, toxic past, etc). Sometimes it's a blessing because it shows us who sticks by us despite tough times. Not only because we're in a good mood from everything going our way, cute, rich, or popular.

I've never seen this. But after watching this. I'm like the stormy grey cloud. I wish or hope I have a friend or a partner like the stork some day. Because I really try, I really try to be like the others but I'm like the grey cloud. I'm glad I found this. thank you for uploading it.

There’s beauty in all things created, but the cloud doesn’t mean to hurt his stork friend, he wants to fit in with the rest but it isn’t in his nature; the stork however believes the cloud is just as important as the rest and his creations brings happiness to even the more dangerous creatures. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and the stork believes that 100%, other wise, he wouldn’t keep taking the job.

My favorite Pixar short, I don’t care if it makes me cry everytime

The only short that made me cry. I like this one because I have felt like the gray cloud. I am have been rejected, I have been betrayed, been ignored, been abandoned, and I have been better-dealed by friends who I used to be close with, the first chance they got. It is sad but you must move on. I’m happy the stork came back when many of these old former friends never did.

It almost made me cry😭. The dark cloud is rejected and considered evil and bad luck for not giving normal things, but in the end they decide to take things positivitly,like a gift of live❤❤

😁 I’ve always loved this Pixar short- it might even be my favorite one! The animation, music, characters, and storyline are fantastic! 🤔 That being said, a couple of things just occurred to me: 1) since the clouds create baby animals, were all the storks in the short grown up babies made by the cloud-beings and did they go back to their respective makers? That would deepen the relationship between the storks and the clouds. 2) WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE STORM CLOUD (canonically speaking- obviously the story focused on this cloud and his stork carrier). 3) If the cloud-beings are impervious to getting hurt by the animals they create, why don’t they use smaller cloud-beings that are lower down to transport the animal babies? Or even make sentient fog-beings that do that on the ground? Yes, I realize this is unnecessarily over-analyzing a cartoon but I still find them to be interesting thoughts?

Whenever I see this story, it make me think of people who face a lot of prejudice aimed against their profession. I have met a few people who work hard and take pride in their work but have had negative reactions - those in the police, the foster system, and in animal welfare. They see and deal with intimidating parts of society that are usually ignored in regular conversation, but require dedicated supportive people to those affected by these things. Dear cloud - glad they have a good friend to help them.

This makes me so nostalgic. I used to watch this a lot in my childhood

Many of the dangerous babies were cute, but were dangerous, like the baby mountain goat. The stork routinely gets injured, yet he still shows up to pick up and deliver his babies. His job was rougher, and his cloud was so happy and busy creating his babies, he didn't think about protecting his delivery stork until the stork became fed up and got protection for himself. We need to remember to protect and replenish ourselves so we can keep handling our tough days.

You can tell in how worried the cloud gets when he’s injured that it’s not that he wasn’t thinking about his stork friend it’s just that he couldn’t do anything else he makes dangerous babies and can’t change that

No, he handed a spiked baby to his delivery stork, the babies couldn't hurt him in his a cloud. He can't change the fact his stork friend is vulnerable where he is not, but he could be prepared for that. The stork had to engineer a way to protect himself, because the Cloud provided him no protective gear.@@emilyjohn2034 It is not that the babies are dangerous, but the stork well-being was not being considered until he was injured, instead of working out a system to reduce risk and harm toward the stork beforehand. Life is unpredictable but with a little planning we can shield our self against the slings and arrows of fate, but the baby electric eel still zapped us so you can't win them all.

The cloud might be insecure because of it's job but it still loves the job no matter what. And the bird , knowing its friend loves the job, will continue to support the cloud but this time, considering safety for itself as well. Life maybe hard sometimes but it's not that hard when you have a job you enjoy and someone supporting besides you.

there is a hint to how much the stork loves the cloud even in the very beginning. like when the cloud gives him a nuggie and the stork nibbles his cheek. that's bird affection right there and only really done with REALLY trusted peeps, they're kinda like "kisses", but done socially. you don't see this with the other clouds/storks. this stork in particular, adores what this cloud is doing, he's just tired. it's why he comes back, he knows the cloud will have difficulties finding a new stork and all the dangerous families won't have babies. he values the same thing the cloud values, that's why their relationship is closer than the others. while the others "appear" to be happier, smiling, laughing, having a general good time up there, yet... what they do, doesn't help the animals who still need to exist, exist. they don't need to think about life once they're done. they don't need to think about the importance or the value, because for them, life is easy. they know they are valued, but they don't value that knowing. if that makes any sense. this cloud and this stork on the other hand? they have to think about their value every step of the way, and they see it, because if they didn't, they wouldn't be friends, they wouldn't be working this job. this cloud is VERY lucky to have such a loving stork and it shows just how much he appreciates him.
