RVing is a lot of work, especially if you go on multiple weekend trips each month. Here is what we do to simplify the transfer process and make it more efficient: 1) Strategic Storage Containers: Invest in storage containers that fit perfectly into the pantries and cupboards in both your house and RV. Instead of moving items from pantries, cupboards, and refrigerators into bags and then back again, you can just transfer the storage containers. This requires some planning-understanding what items go where and selecting the right size containers. We also place our non-refrigerated storage containers on shelves in our walk-in pantry, saving a lot of time. 2) Second Refrigerator: We bought a second refrigerator (a nice side-by-side from Facebook Marketplace) for our garage. We keep our RV containers and all our extra bottled water, beer, and soda in this second refrigerator. This allows us to transfer our refrigerator containers directly to the garage rather than inside the house. 3) Special Wagon Cart: We designed and built a special 4-wheel wagon cart made specifically for our storage containers. It also has hooks for hanging backpacks, sports bags, and grocery bags. Imagine a combination of a wagon, cubbies, and a hotel cart. It holds all the containers, so we can just wheel it to the back door. She transfers the containers from inside the house onto the cart, and I load the items from the garage refrigerator onto it. This saves a significant amount of time, allowing us to make everything in one trip. 4) Washer in the RV: We installed a washer in our RV and do a 2 to 3 small loads of laundry each day, which we hang to dry. This means we can pack less clothing. Our philosophy for cleaning and laundry is to do a little each time, reducing the workload and minimizing the amount of transferring needed between the RV and the house. We want to spend more time on what we enjoy and less on what we don't. 5) Organized SUV Loading: For all the items we put in the back of the SUV (maybe things like you put in your pick-up), we store them on the wall and floor near the garage door. Everything has a place. We pull the SUV out until the back hatch is right next to the items on the wall and floor, making it easy to load and unload. We are very organized, some might even say OCD. I worked for Honda in manufacturing engineer, where I learned about the Lean philosophy, including the 5S process. Almost everyday my job was about reducing waste and maximizing every human & equipment movement and saving every second of time.........constantly becoming more and more efficient. I now practice this in my everyday life......less time and effort on what I don't like doing and more time and effort on what I love doing! May one or two these ideas will bring value to you or at the least stimulate ideas of your own!

I do t know area you are in, but when we were teenagers for 2 years in a row we had a seasonal campsite in a private campground near an historic town about 1.5 hour drive from home (shoot with traffic sometimes that was my work commute). Bottom line - we had a blast. Us teens got to know other kids whose families were doing the same thing. Sometimes one of my parents would take 3 day weekends and the other would drive up - no packing and unpacking except food of course and clothes and sometimes fresh sheets once in a while, etc. Those were wonderful memories and my parents would tell you worth every penny. You may not have a jet ski to show for the money - but you and your kids will make memories galore!

You are right..camping is hard work. Especially the maintenance to the camper to keep it in good working order. We are lucky enough to park our camper at our house, so that makes the loading/unloading easier. In fact, we are headed to Tybee Island tomorrow of the week. And we upgraded from a TT to a Alliance Avenue 5th wheel since the kids left for college/marriage, but it's still big enough for up to 4 and maybe 5 for a night or two. We camp so that we don't have to stay in hotels, we get sleep in our own sheets, have our own kitchen food, and can take our dog anywhere. So, thanks for sharing.

The heat [ we were in Pigeon Forge and Townsend ] and humidity was over whelming to us. We spent most of the time in the camper watching tv. We had kids running through our campsite at Little Arrow which drove me crazy since we don't have kids. Koda our dog is shedding bad, and hair was all over everything in the camper. If you are looking to upgrade to a 5th wheel, I did that also. I had a Forest River toy hauler and went to a Keystone Cougar. We really enjoyed it much better than the toy hauler. My wife has some trouble getting around and the trips to the shower house was an issue. The new camper has a large bathroom and shower so no more trips to the shower house. Love the layout and lots of room for friends that camp with us even though they have their camper we hang out at our camper because of all the room we have. It’s only a 36 ft but we enjoy it. Prior to the diesel pusher, we had a DRV fifth wheel. They are notorious for being heavy. Our F-450 pulled it easily. But the reason they are heavy is that they are built with quality and I believe they are the finest fifth wheels built. Also we live in Banner Elk, NC. Our altitude is 3,800 feet. So a warm day is mid 80’s and 50’s or 60’s at night. So come see us sometime! Blessings

I still have lots of indoor storage available yet to fill up. Our outside pass through is only about 1/2 full. I do empty the fridge and bring in the dirty laundry when we get home but I keep the meals simple and only pack the basics. I leave the non-perishables out there for the next time. I am looking forward to living in it for 2 months in Florida this winter. Not concerned about storage at all. We're lucky enough to be able to keep our travel trailer in our driveway hooked up all the time so we can leave most of our stuff in there. We only load up a couple bags of fresh groceries when we head out. Pantry, clothes, sundries, all that stuff stays until end of season. We haven't had "one of those trips" yet, but our last trip actually had me come home and buy a new suspension for the trailer! We went to Finger Lakes RV Resort in Hector, NY and I-90 west and east was a HORROR show! We were both surprised when we got home and nothing was broken inside the camper. It was that bad. Keep on camping guys! No matter if it's good or bad, it's camping! Always something fun to find in that! And we're only just passing 1,000 miles on our first! Tips for camping blues: 1 Make camping friends. Their company creates the activities and it’s free. 2 Consider a rear living layout so if forced inside it still very open and roomy. 3 leave as much as you can inside. Our Avenue came with the 12 volt fridge and enough solar to keep the battery charged without plugging in so it sits in our driveway between trips and we don’t have to unpack the fridge. Awesome!! Camper choice: look for rack and pinion slides. Avoid the swintek and cable slides unless in a small slide and even then not crazy about them. Take a good look at the Alliance Avenue 29RL if it can work with your family

In regards to Grand Design we have a 2022 Reflection and haven't had any issues I couldn't take care of myself. Regarding the flex issue it's mostly the larger Solitudes or Momentums with larger drop frames. The Reflection line uses different frames. Are some Reflection owners having issues regarding their campers yes, but I don't believe it's a flex issue, more of a COVID fast build issue. Which all manufacturers are experiencing. Made a good choice not getting jet skies. When we were in our mid life. Always wanted a boat. One of the best days was when we bought a boat for the family. One the next best days was when we sold it. Used it a lot the first 3 yrs, even had it in a slip on the lake. Year 4 started the downfall, only used it 3 times. After that got worse, maintenance was a big and expensive issue. Sold it in year 6. Eyes get big at start, have a lot of fun. Time gets in the way of work. Expenses get bigger ( maint. ) and you say, this is not worth it. To much money and trouble for the small amount of time being used. Not to mention storage, which I did in my driveway. So people do not have that option, even though it was in my way. Risk worth reward? Unless you live on a lake, risk will win.

Ugh, hate Jetskis. Noisy, stinky, annoying to other boaters, potentially dangerous -- especially when alcohol is in the mix (even if you're not the one drinking & driving). Would much rather take a kayak out on the no-wake area.

We have a Cougar 29RL? With an Anderson hitch so we can take out of pick up without breaking our backs. We can load and unload without putting out all the slides if needed. We’re empty nesters tho, so mostly just he and thee…we have enough solar on it to run 12v fridge full time…and we own an extra lot to park it on here at home. When we bought our first rv 8 years ago, we had no idea what we were doing, thus the upgrade to the 5th wheel, 4 years later. We go every other weekend and mostly state parks in Indiana and Michigan although we have ventured into Ohio and Illinois this year. We have discovered that Indiana and Michigan have spoiled us as far as state parks are concerned. If you can fill your fresh water tank and learn the art of “navy showers” electric is all you need. We enjoy bike riding and hikes so we rarely “resort it”. I can send you a list of favorite state parks if interested. That said stay at Mill Creek resort in Mackinac. They sell ferry tickets and have a trolly to the ferry dock at the resort. Very handy it is our favorite week after Labor Day trip. Pro tip on Indiana and Michigan state parks, an annual pass may be cheaper in the long run depending on how often you visit.
