Part 8: Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra application methods

It's time to apply what we have found to be the most durable and effective ceramic / nano coating on the market, the 9-year guaranteed Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra. Here we're performing some of the process on the Supra, a real customer's car, as Kelly talks you through the KDS Keltec methods involved. There's even a cautionary tale (just after the 11 minute mark) of how NOT to do it, and why NOT to cut corners......

    I'm working in a difficult environment - a very dark garage with no power or overhead lighting. Something that seems to show high spots pretty well is to look at the REFLECTION of a low intensity, diffuse, light. I learnt this from another detailer's channel - Car Craft Auto Detailing. Since we are looking at the reflection, it makes sense to use a large light. The best light source I have at the moment is my 10” tablet, displaying a white screen. I am using Cquartz Lite to begin with, just to see whether a coating provides any substantial benefit, as a chauffeur with a black car, that I wash exclusively using the waterless wash method. Great video - thanks!

    I buy the foam round pads covered in normal move fibre to apply TAC moonlight. It's fast to apply, you can see where you've gone as oil based and easy to wipe off. Also works really well on trim plastics with a restorative effect. It's my new 'wax'. I can top it up without worrying but decent panel prep of course helps. It lasts 6-9 months I reckon and can be topped with gyeon wet coat well. As a hobby I actually like topping up my cars though can see the appeal of mega long lasting pro applied nano costings

    I'd be really concerned about the fibres generated from the cut edge of the Kirkland cloths? Is this still the method you use or have you updated it? Great video by the way and very impressive workshop.

    We were told by Gtechniq you only need to wait 1 hour to apply Exo over Ultra, I dont know if that's because I'm in Australia were the weather it different or not, also we dont apply exo twice only the once, which again i dont know why??

    Thanks for a great video! I've been debating which ceramic treatments would be worth attempting at home and you've certainly showed me why it's worth going to a pro when it comes to a high end treatment! For me, I am looking to protect non-sports cars just from the dirt, grime, and salt we get in NY winters. Any suggestions? Was looking at Gyeon Syncro but there are so many options out there!

    Kirkland yellow cloths, you can get them from Costco, Amazon... Just wash with normal washing detergent. No added softener. We consider cloths relatively disposable - the plushest, most expensive cloths in the world are no use once they've got a tiny bit of junk stuck in them that puts swirls back in your freshly polished paint. Better to have lots of fresh/new 'good' ones. And these are perfectly good enough.

    On a serious note are you washing and reusing the towels or are they being thrown out? and if you do reuse them how are you cleaning them?

  • @KDSKeltecTV

    @KDSKeltecTV

    Wash and re-use, but we grade them as they get older and grubbier. Once a car has been fully corrected it's nothing but completely brand new cloths (on the paintwork) from then on. Good cloths used during correction. OK cloths used during washing, decon, and for shuts etc. Bad cloths for cleaning the workshop. Gritty cloths in a black sack for mopping up the floor or oil, then thrown out. I should add that an OK or bad cloth is still 'clean from the washing machine' but we check each one as they're put away and if there's any stains or the fibres are starting to matt together etc, they get graded accordingly.

    You’re putting way too much thought into this. Nothing wrong with using the thin cloths on the pad as long as you wipe right before application. Unless you’re doing this in a clean room it’s pointless. You’re moving the dirt around just as much with the microfiber as you would with the thin cloth.
