That was great that it was a bird, not a mouse, that moved in. And I'm glad your car is fixed. I use another method to get rid of weed seeds. About a week or so before I plant & after I've pulled out the weeds, I water the soil then wait a few days. The weed seeds will sprout. Then I get a rake & drag it through until the little weeds are uprooted. The weeds are killed that way. Then I plant my veg plants or seeds. This method doesn't prevent new weed seeds from blowing in & sprouting so I add mulch, about 3 inches, so the new seeds can't reach the soil. Hope this helps.

Wow, you've gotten so much done already!! Bravo! I put down cardboard over the weeds and that's helped in the garden alongside the side of my house. I get those pesky thistle weeds with huge thorns. I want the critters (raccoons, opossums and skunks) that come to visit me in the evenings to have a clear path to walk on, so the cardboard has helped them too. Your bread looked beautiful. I don't know if I'd have any self control with that bread 🍞 in my presence. So good to hear about the car. What a lovely Moma bird taking care of her babies.

extreme heat will kill weed seeds, I am not a fan of plastic though as it breaks down too easy in the sun...I would spread it closer to the pond to help establish things growing around it, "weeds" have a purpose, unless it is an invasive species...if you plan on planting a tree or bush near your pond you could also use it as mulch...your property and village house look great from all the work you have done

Good morning Elaine. I did a ton of weeding today too but nothing compared to the loads you have done. What a joy to see another video. Your bread turned out beautiful! My sauerkraut has been on my counter for two weeks and will be ready tomorrow. I am trying Keto so I will have it with some bratwurst. I watched some videos and just bought one of those little DASH MINI “Chaffle” waffle irons (all the rage right now) and will add some sauerkraut to my chaffle mixes. You might be interested in purchasing a Chaffle Mini Dash iron for yourself. It uses 350 watts, very small, fun to use and is so versatile! I’m glad you have reliable transportation! Just finished watching your video, everything is looking beautiful. It’s awesome you can make sauerkraut, I used to garden can & freeze things from our garden, but never did make sauerkraut. I am too old for that anymore but nothing can compare to the wonderful taste of home grown food. Happy for you that the car was able to be fixed without costing so much. We are driving a 14 year old Toyota van we bought brand new in 2010, it has 324,000 miles but we just hope it keeps going as vehicles are so expensive now. We do have to have work done on it occasionally but it’s been a great vehicle. Wishing you a blessed week, and remember to take time to rest, relax, & take time for yourself. I understand you wanting to stay busy but life is too short to not take time to smell the roses and I think you realize that as you were talking about how calm and peaceful it was there. Hopefully Darren can join you soon.

The black plastic over weeds is frequently used to sterilize the soil when left for a few months. My only concern for you is would it possibly heat up enough in your heat to ignite? Perhaps check with locals on using it. Elaine, you are in your happy place in Portugal on your land. You can do this. You will find you will be able to handle things as they come up.
