We talk about Focus on The Family, Hope Restored Intensive Marriage retreat. This is a 4 day intensive retreat in a secluded, remote area where 2 highly trained marriage & family therapist listen to and walk alongside 5 total couples as we all open up and become transparent and allow healing to happen in our lives and marriage in a very safe and secure environment. There is no pressure or manipulation. Just the love of Jesus.

One of the major things we learned was how to take personal responsibility for our own actions and to stop trying to control our spouse.
We also learned that we all have these core fears in life that we pick up from experiences from our past. Adelle & I refer to these as "Thorns". They seem to prick us and stay with us, until we remove them from our lives. Things like: "I'm a failure", "I'm not good enough", "I'm unwanted or unloved".
These are all lies straight from satan. However, we adapt these lies in our earlier years of development and then "practice" these lies as if they are true.
We also talk through how to solve these issues we have and reverse this negative way of thinking.
And that is through personal responsibility. Knowing that these emotions, feelings and thorns are mine. They have been around for a long time and it is my responsibility to let go of them. It is not my spouses or anyone else responsibility to take care of my heart.
