Having watched all of the careful moves of that you had taken, to restore every part of that Thunderbolt back into it's original condition... has allowed me to see that the 2nd owner price of a dollar a cc that I'd paid back in 1973, for my 1968 TR6R Triumph Trophy Sports 650 when eventually restored by ''Big D Cycle'' in 2012... was worth every penny spent, in bringing it too, back into perfection. Obligements from Texas, Dave.

I just watched the firs 5 videos of your Low Budget Classic restoration series. A great way to pass a couple of hours during the current COVID lock down here in Calgary Alberta. I just completed rebuilding the motor on a classic Suzuki GS1100, those old British twins are a lot different. One thing I find striking is how thick the valve stems are. Thanks for series Dave.

I really love this channel, as it explains tasks so clearly, something I have previously mentioned. Some tips: British bikes use Pozidriv fasteners, so do not use a Philips screwdriver; removing carbon from the old inlet and exhaust guides and ports is advisable before drifting out the valve guides, else the carbon build-up may score and mar the head - I think that was mentioned.

Don't know how to do links but if you put BSA Spitfire MK11 Special into You tube it's usually at the top, a video done by Chicane 500 when I was at Gawsworth hall. About 5 years ago my 1970 ex Police Thunderbolt was featured in Classic Bike Magazine.

I find it most helpful when following a video tutorial to have working examples of the lessons being taught. Do you have old '67 BSA A65 Thunderbolt bikes available for your students to follow along? Even anything close to it, like an old Bonneville or a Commando. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I'll pass the mechanical test at the end of class.

A bit off topic but years ago I did a top end refurb to my G12 Matchless twin and fitted new gaskets.after starting up and re torqueing I embarked on a local test ride and half a mile on,one cylinder went down with a leaky gasket.foolishly I motored on with one pot to find a suitable place to turn round but was beaten by the other one failing too.Result a long hard push home. The cure? Increased diameter of holding down bolts and ordering solid copper gaskets!

Hi Dave Mitchell! It is a pleasure to assist your re-commissioning or reconditioning operations. Special tools a minimum, within the reach of isolated motorcyclists or specialized workshops that are increasingly rare for classic English women. Motorcyclists must have at least notions of metallurgy, horizontal lathe, adjustment and metrology. Otherwise it is an adventure which can be irreversibly harmful. So speaking, would it be possible to indicate the adjustment of interference of the guides in the head and of the valves in the guides, in thousandths of an inch or hundredths of a millimeter? Thankful!

Forgot to say - I was saying to the screen "don't hammer the case something is out of line", you could see the case bouncing! Turned out to be the oil seal as you discovered, always watch that fitment on the shaft as you PUSH the case on. If everything in line no need to hammer.
