Jayco RV Plant Tour through White Hawk's Production Line After Hours & Behind the Scenes!
CLICK SUBSCRIBE NOW! to see more of these videos & Support our Family Owned & Operated Business!
Concluding our little four-part mini series through several of Jayco RV's production facilities in Middlebury, Indiana we take a trip through the White Hawk travel trailer plant. I was really hoping to bounce between Jay Feather & White Hawk to showcase their similarities, but unfortunately after having recorded three previous factory tours the Jay Feather plant had already shut down for the day.
I BARELY made it in time to White Hawk -- at one point they literally shut the lights off on me LOL
But thankfully after a few quick calls Jayco's leadership was kind enough to grant me special access after hours to showcase their facilities and processes for you to enjoy today! So give Jayco a big thanks for allowing me the time and access to record this video, click that like button, subscribe, and if you missed them or need extra references enjoy the links to other Jayco Factory Tours I've been able to record previously below as well as some Jayco vs. Jayco brand comparisons!

    I know this is an older video but I want to say a couple of things. First off, I really appreciate all of the work you put in man. I know it’s a lot and you do a great job. Second, we met a Jayco rep at our local RV show this weekend named Matt. He spoke highly of you. He watches your videos and said that sometimes you even teach him things that he doesn’t know working for Jayco. We ordered a Whitehawk 27RK. If y’all get one in id love to see you review it. We won’t have ours until mid May. Thanks for all you do Josh! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Josh! Thanks again for the video! In regard to the desk/office space, I wonder if they could do a type of board slide-out in between the fireplace, and the TV mounting area that would make into a workspace desktop.....then you would just need to move a chair over. There is natural storage space around the entertainment area for most office supplies, and such...that way you could have the best of all worlds.....just thinking out loud here.....~Lou

    Hello, in response to your question, perhaps its because I am older but I prefer my fires to be campfires and to be outside roasting marshmellows, so, for me, a fireplace in a smaller camper is unnecessary. A camp kitchen, I can see a use for that...thus, would I prefer that area to be a desk minus the fireplace and camp kitchen, well even tho the camp kitchen would be there if it was for me, some people I believe would option for a desk for their computer, do bills, etc. We all know travel trailers are becoming the 2nd home, and for many like me, the only home...so yes I believe people would go for the desk option. I didn't USED TO be a fan. The systems were just.. wonky. They worked weirdly Now we're in what I kinda call the "Generation 3 on demand" era in which they work how you'd think/expect them to work and I like them. I think the only reason they're not found more commonly is simply because they're not widely understood. I'm seeing more luxury FWs start to use them more regularly which is a good sign they'll start permeating thru more RV production

    I can appreciate the finer things in life but I tend to be a man of simple needs. When I get to go camping it's almost always in something simple like a Jay Flight 264BH No slide model. Just a bed and a bathroom. Beyond that I spend most of my time outside (though I do enjoy full hookups) We like to occupy our days with activities and maybe take a hot day siesta in the RV for an hour or so to cool off.

    Hi Tony! First and foremost... I believe that model has sadly been retired. I have been in one before and other models like it from other brands. It's VERY visually appealing. I personally am not a fan of the front bedroom sofa/lounges. It feels like a hugely wasted opportunity for storage in my eyes. The living room/bathroom/etc are all on point. The bed slide in a travel trailer is great. It's just that one thing that I always get hung up on. That's MY take on it though. And I'm not the one potentially buying it. Definitely form your own view of it. Maybe the stuff I don't like doesn't matter to you and maybe you disagree. That's totally cool too :)

    Well Jayco must be making them better now because my 2018 White Hawk 28RL was pretty much built like crap. I have most things (not all) sorted out now, but I literally had to get a brad nail gun and double the amount they used on the trim because it was all loose and falling off, and this was in 2018 when we bought it new. I like the White Hawk line and they are attractive trailers but Jaco is clearly building them too fast for decent quality control. One look at their shop and the debris everywhere is it’s clear they are going so fast, there is no time allotted for housekeeping which is what you find inside the trailer. Behind panels I have found screws, brad nails and wire insulation everywhere. My water pump was mounted in such a bad spot you couldn’t work on it. When I replaced it, it got moved so I could work on it in the future. We will hang onto our 28RL and I will continue to fix and straighten out what I can. There is nothing wrong with the components or hardware Jayco used, its just the lack of time or effort to fit things correctly.

    Hey J., why do they use that crappy dryer vent hose that the warm air has to 'fight' it's way through? If the answer is cost related they could use good , smooth tubing and reduce the size to 3" and still get better airflow along with crush resistence.

  • @JoshtheRVNerd

    In asked nearly the same thing. I was advised it was due to the way each White Hawk floor plan's heating system varies. Some utilize floor vents. Some do not. Some only in certain areas. I was advised it was the only way they could reasonably tackle every model's heating needs while also considering their production volume demands. I get the sense it's not something they'd like to do in a perfect world, but in actual practice *need* to do to keep the line moving

    Josh - What’s your opinion of the laminated floor that the Feathers use? Lots of comments on the forums about soft spots. Hard to tell how big of an issue this really is. Also, have you heard anything about Jayco possibly going to beefier axles on the Feathers? The dinky 3500# axles leave very little cargo capacity (1000# in my case).

  • @JoshtheRVNerd

    @JoshtheRVNerd

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don’t see it on feathers NOW, but in years past saw a lot of soft floor issues Like a lot of things there’s really a right way and a wrong way to do it, and even then I feel a heavier weight plywood floor decking with more studs does seem to last longer overall For a lot of years manufactures would try to keep the weight as light as possible by putting crossmembers in their laminated floors basically every 4 feet on center. There would be two pieces of 2 foot wide bead foam stacked next to one another between those crossmembers. It’s simply not enough structure, and would buckle overtime Good laminated floors have crossmembers every 2 feet, and the bead foam will actually be set on top of those crossmembers were the black foam seems are directly on top of the studs. This makes a massive difference in the longevity of the floor, but Waze and cost more by comparison so not everyone a Doppes it. Unfortunately not enough customers see and understand the difference here, and when they’re brand new they all feel fine. There are some big name fifth wheels out there who are developing a lot of soft floors as a result of that corner cutting
